Speaking of deals...

Dell.com currently has the 55" B7 for $1499. Ebates is doing 10% back from Dell this weekend, which means $150 back. Use a price-protecting credit card (I used my Chase card with this site, and it worked fine) and match it with ebuyusa.com who is currently showing the set at $1099 in-cart. Since the Ebates check is based on the Dell price, you end up paying $950 for your 55" OLED.

Obviously, this is contingent on your credit card company doing the price match, and the Ebates check took about 2 months to show up (when I did this with Dell for my set), but wowsers.

Wife is out till about 9pm, so will have to wait to get it up stairs, opened and attach the stand and put it on my entertainment stand. Looking forward to it. My first ever Samsung, hope I get a good panel! Will post impressions when I can.

Congrats, hope you get a good panel. Looking forward to your impressions.

I would think constantly moppin up the blood from your ears created by that crispy 540kbps audio would actually be inconvenient, but I'm not one to judge.

Niiice. Is that a 65" or a 75" ? The box looks big. I'm waiting on mine. Trying the Samsung upgrade program and it's backordered til the week of 6/10. :(

I'm very curious about the input lag on the set. I keep seeing 15ms from multiple reviews but rtings says 21ms. That difference matters to me. I have my Leo Bodnar ready!

It is the 65". I wanted a 75" but the wife put a stop to that idea immediately. I am still shocked she gave me the green light to buy the 65". I have heard the same thing about the input lag and now I am hearing that the 15ms lag is with the latest firmware update, but I have not seen a site that measures it prove that, just going by users posting that information.

The other great news and hell of a timing thing, Denon released the firmware update that lets their receivers play nice with the Samsung. There was an issue with the Denon's reading the EDID number of the Samsung because Samsung has implemented some HDMI 2.1 feature and the EDID is longer than normal. When connected with a Denon there was a handshake issue when trying to use 4k/HDR through the receiver. The firmware on Denon's end fixes this. I know it is not out for all Denon receivers, but the one in my game room, the Denon 6400H did get it, while the Denon I have in the living room did not. From reading AV Forums the firmware is still coming (my living room one is about a year older than my 6400h.). So glad that they fixed that issue.

LMAO. Don't know yet. Will be set up in a few hours. Will most likely post impressions tomorrow. If it is a no go, not sure if I will just refund and wait to see what the new ZDF will have or possibly order a E8 since I know they do get a little brighter than the 7 series and it has a better processor.

I don't have he equipment to measure the 4k and hdr signals but I can measure the 1080p signal when I get the a TV and I'll post it here. The 4k signals seems like it's usually a bit better or the same input lag wise so I think it'll be fine. Mine is a 75" so might be different from the 65's.

Just read the AVF review of the electriQ OLED.

Basically a cheap no-frills OLED TV, using a current LG panel, for £850, outperforming all other TVs at that price-point. Sounds like a great option for a bedroom TV or perhaps one for our gaming man-caves.

Was out today and on a whim picked up a TCL R617. It was intended to be a bedroom set since I have a Vizio P65-C1 as my main TV and thought there was no way the R617 would be better, man was I wrong. It's a better TV in every way, the increase in peak brightness in HDR compared to the Vizio is night and day. Much better color reproduction as well. So the Vizio is in the bedroom now.

Last week I got a 65" C8 for $2500. Loving it so far. Upgraded from a 60" basic Samsung from 4 years ago.

I have been using my X1S for UHD BR but last night watching the new Matrix UHD I was getting audio lag. Nothing I changed outside of going to stereo would fix it. A bit disappointed as the other BR I watched was fine audio wise. As far as I can tell it is specific to the X1S.

That makes me so happy to hear lol! Just bought my 55" C8 through Costco.com after relentless months of research and going hands on with both QLEDs and OLEDs.

Almost bit last year on LGs but glad was able to hold out. Then seriously considered QLED bc primarily gaming. But the A9 processor in the C8 is a beast, they fixed the HDR Game mode dimness, and added some anti burn in options.....(and got 5 yr warranty no charge, BestBuy wanted $500 for 5 yr.)

Already have XB1X and a PS4Pro ready to hook up, been using a 2013 1080p Sony 50" LED 120hz panel and it's been great.

How impressed are you with the Dolby Atmos built in sound/speakers? I'll mostly be using A50s with it but will use the speaker occasionally.

I haven't actually used the internal speakers. I have a Vizio sound bar that does well. Though if I can ever get a better living room layout wherever we move to next, I'll upgrade to a full Atmos setup.

I am waiting to get a PS4 Pro and excited to play GoW on this set.

I have tons of new games to play......yet all I can think about is playing, (AGAIN!!) Fallout 4 and Skyrim @ 4K on XB1X.

Curious to see the difference from checkerboarding 4K vs Native 4K on some of the PS4Pro games. Def will pick up GoW eventually but want to beat Far Cry 5 (2-3 hours in,) and also AC Origins (15ish hours in.) before I buy any more games. Now that I think about it I haven't beaten Uncharted 4 yet or the expansion :(

I got feeling Forza Horizon 3 is going to melt my eyeballs on that TV bc it looked pretty sharp @1080p with NO HDR.

From Rtings, ''The X900F is Sony's current flagship LED TV, recently updated for 2018. The 900F produces slightly better picture quality, thanks to the full array local dimming feature. The Q7 is a bit brighter for SDR content while the X900F is brighter for HDR content. The Q7FN has a much wider color gamut and much better color volume. If you want the best colors possible with HDR content, go with the Q7FN; if not, then the X900F is a better choice.''

Edit: Forgot to add that the Q7 has a lower input lag than the X900F.

Yeah. At a glance that would be a strong argument for the Q7F, considering the amount of SDR and non 4K content out there. Thanks.

Ended up bargaining a bit and....inexplicably Samsung wants a solid 600-800 more at the 55" level. They think the NU8000 and "it's so bad it shouldn't be there" dimming array competes with the 900F, at least over here. I guess I'm set on the latter now. Too bad TCL doesn't exist here.

So after fiddling around with my B7 trying out a bunch of different recommended settings I'm not really feeling the HDR game mode tbh. In dark scenes (both GoW and HZD) the blacks are waaaay too black imo, almost crushed. Turning HDR off makes it possible to actually see the details in dark scenes. What am I doing wrong here?

You're doing nothing wrong, OLED is just not as good as people make it out to be, i have a C7 and is the only tv purchase i regret, so much so i put it on our guest room and I'm using my X900E for gaming again.

Oh please. If that amount of detail was being crushed so easily it would not get the professional recommendations it does.

Settings somewhere simply have to be off.
GoW was perfectly fine in dark scenes. Many say they don't really get dark enough when properly set up but that's another opinion.

Either play in a dark room or change your settings. Games have HDR options for a reason. When I played GOW during the day, I always set the brightness from default 50 to 70.

As long as your settings are accurate, then those blacks look exactly the way they should look.

One thing you could try is play around with the gamma setting. I also found certain games too dark on my B6 but changing the gamma fixed that.

My current 50" LG 1080p plasma over the last month I would say has started developing some slight burn in from the ps4 UI and it seems to be accelerating quite quickly. It's only noticeable on pure white mostly and it varies on severity but I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade.

Haven't got a lot of money so went with the HISENSE 50 H50N6800 4k one and am just waiting for it to arrive now, very excited lol.

Did some research and it seems a good set and considering I'm only paying £450 that's a bargain.

Already reinstalled and downloaded some of my games to test it out on the Pro. Got God of war, horizon, infamous first light, R&C and witcher all ready to go :)

I'll check it out tonight to see if the blacks are less "agressive". I usually play at night anyway. Thanks

People aren't feeling OLED? Why is that? I haven't bought one yet, but if it is not worth the purchase then I might as well look at that Nvidia 65 inch monitor.

Haha any reviews out that you read about it? I'm not looking into purchasing a tv or monitor right now, but 65 inch 4k sounds good if I don't care for OLED.

Who's not feeling it?
The one guy? lol

This thread is an OLED lovefest for a reason.
Lol yea that one guy. So I wanted to know if other people aren't feeling it. I'm holding off on my next TV purchase until Fall 2019 so I wanted to know what's happening in the OLED department for that guy to say that.

I'd buy a second hand CRT. OLED just is massively overrated. I heard a rumour that they actually cause blindness if you watch them long enough.
My uncle at Universal Display verified your comment.

I never gave Game Mode much of a chance with HZD but with GoW put Dynamic Contrast to Medium, bump up brightness a bit (no higher than 60-65) and maybe lower contrast a bit (no lower than 35).

Never had a problem with GoW in dark areas, in fact sometimes it looked better than the brighter areas because I think the contrast was usually good to make for an appealing picture outside of certain areas where the black levels were raised (issue with the game, not the TV).

That said if you're not satisfied with any of this...I dunno when you got your OLED but you might then be better off with an LED like the 900e/930e. Although GoW looked good overall on the OLED, I sold it, got the 930e and I prefer it for gaming.

No legit reviews out yet as far as I know. Supposed to get released late this year, possibly next year. Not caring about OLED is one thing, but burning maaad cash for a premium is another. OLED and fake oleds will utterly destroy these panels when it comes to value per dollar spent.

Thanks for reply. Part of my problem is probably because I have no idea how HDR should really look in games. I haven't seen games being played in HDR before only movies so I have no reference tbh. Also, I already played both GoW and HZD to death on my old screen so maybe that look has "burned in" on my eyes if that makes sense?

LG B7 here. Phenomenal TV, best I've ever had easily, and I came from a panny plasma. I have it set up perfectly to my eye, without a pro calibration that is. I've found my settings are a lot more reserved (or, accurate) than I often see on gaming forums... you guys really like pushing those saturation levels off the charts! And those cold white balances make me sad ;_; but each to their own.

Anyway, one issue.

HDR looks fantastic at night (seriously wow!), but during the day it's too dim. Dynamic Contrast is on low purely to activate Active HDR. OLED Light and Contrast are at max, brightness can't go above 51 without raising blacks, so the only way to get more brightness is to set Dynamic Contrast to high. Which really destroys the image...

What's annoying is there seems to be a solution for Dolby Vision. Cinema Home can go plenty bright enough. HDR has a Cinema Home preset also but doesn't allow any extra brightness.

For movies it's fine as I'm not watching HDR movies during the day (though it'd be great if I at least had the option). But gaming I do.

Have LG said anything regarding HDR brightness levels?

Footnote: I kind of suspect the actual content may have something to do with it also. All my HDR movies aren't bright enough during the day, but Planet Earth II easily is. So perhaps movies are mastered darker than LG have accounted for?

I'm the one guy, I absolutely love my new tv - I never said I was unhappy with it. My only issue is with HDR in "Game mode" which I find to be way too dark, especially in dark areas in both GoW and HZD. All the other HDR modes seem fine in this department, but if I want low input latency I need to use game mode, so that's the dilemma. But don't be fooled by my initial HDR frustrations, the tv is such a beast.

Got the 77C8 calibrated by DeWayne yesterday aka D-Nice, and discovered a few things!

77C8

- Peak nit was 851 (compared to that other guy at AVS who measured 720 on the 77C8)
- Gamma target of 2.4 clips some of the black in PC mode, so my set was calibrated to 2.23 gamma (this did not happen on my C7)
- Autocal in HDR Game works, but to be honest, out of the box it was surprisingly close (especially if you set white balance to W47, color auto)

Other

- Told me the ZD9F is targeting 4000 nits, for that full dolby vision range
- The Sony AF8 is apparently gimped on purpose, it has the new 2018 LGD panel, but performs worse than the AE1 (especially on the nits)
- LG want to launch the 88inch OLED next year at a target price of $15k
- Eizo apparently have come out with a LCD/IPS monitor that dims on a per pixel basis, and he thinks studios might switch over to that from the Sony
(https://www.eizo.com/news/2018/04/02/coloredge-prominence-cg3145-dci-4k-hdr-reference/)
- The magic zone count that gives the impression of dimming on a per pixel level is apparently 50-70k lol
- Screw 8k

Ah I see. Are you able to customize your Game mode to be brighter or are you stuck with it displaying a darker scene?

Yeah, I disagree with the bolded at all. OLED does have some things that don't make it perfect, but that guy must have a setting not set properly to get that much black crush. IMHO, the challenges with OLED is mainly brightness level and temporary Image Retention and of course possibility of burn in. I personally have not had that with my E7, but I have had temporary IR where I went to play another game and I could see the UI of the previous game for about 10 min or so then it vanished. Some also feel that it is not bright enough, especially in HDR and other may exaggerate and say it is almost blinding too bright, which makes me think if they saw my ZD9 they would get permanent vision issues (some people like to exaggerate things). Anyways, he is definitely having a setting issue and dismissing OLED like that, is of course your opinion, but too dismissive.
