Let ms start by saying I loved the first game, I really loved it and still consider it to be one of the best games ever released in the past twenty years.

So SoD2, I was extremely hyped for this, a more refined and more in depth sequel that promised to bring back a number of features that didn't make it into the first game (namely deeper community management, fuel management for vehicles, etc), but what I got is a game that's somehow even more buggier than the first game, a game that's a chore to play and features none of the charm that made the first game such a joy to play.

As an example of how fundamentally bad this game is, let's take vehicles. The game has so few vehicles in the opening map that you can spend large amounts of time on foot, slowly running through areas that are littered with invisible walls (how the fuck is this even a thing in an open world game in 2018?), having to deal with constantly buggy zombies that more often than not warp through your attacks and get a hit or two before your character is able to trigger its attack animation again (animations are somehow worse than the first game too)...and when you do find a vehicle, you have to deal an insanely annoying number of bugs/glitches that cause your vehicle to turn over the at the slightest touch of the scenery/abandoned vehicles that are littered everywhere.

There's so much more I could go into about what else is wrong with this game, but I'd be here all night listing every single issue I've encountered in four hours of gameplay.

So I'll end with - AVOID THIS GAME, at least until it's in a better state and doesn't suffer from the crazy number of bugs that make this game such an annoying chore to play.

Don't get me wrong, the first game had bugs/glitches, but they were never as annoying as they are here. The formula has changed, but the developers either lack the ability or interest to properly balance the game so you're not left having to fight its design every step of the way.

Maybe we're playing different games, because vehicles have not at all been difficult to find in my game. I have four of them parked at my base and have found at least two-three more in the wild that I just couldn't bring back with me. I've also yet to run into any invisible walls be it on foot or in one of my many vehicles.

I played it for a few hours, had fun with it. Not clamoring for more but am about to go play more with a buddy. I don't think it's awful but it's on par with what I expected.

It's not a perfect game but I've been enjoying my time with it. It's definitely pretty buggy so I can see how people could walk away with vastly different impressions depending on if they run into them.

I can't imagine someone being serious when they call something fundamentally bad.

Like I think Vanquish is fucking garbage but I still wouldn't call it fundamentally bad. That just comes off as misguided and sort of frustrated. And I'm never frustrated when I talk about how fucking garbage Vanquish is.

Never played the first but I played about 5-7 hours of this and dropped it. The core gameplay loop loses its charm around this point. The story is non existent. You have zero investment in your characters. The game isn't challenging in anyway shape or form. It's juat the shittiest parts of say an ubi game where you do their crappiest side quests with zero charm and exposition.

It's ok but it's lacking in all areas except maybe music.

Oh and it's a visual abomination in 2018.

So yeah this is a $5.00 at best goof off game and nothing more.

Miles opinion, for me at least, carries some weight, so I'll just say this is disappointing to hear. I've got it on Gamepass, so might jump in when it's more stable.

I dunno about vehicles being hard to find I can see at least 5-10 on my map at the moment in around 1/4 of the total map area.
I've been playing for around 12 hours or so with a few restarts while trying to grasp a good start and seeing all 3 of the maps. Seen plenty of vehicles around all three of them.
The invisible walling though is quite an annoying thing to run into e.g. slightly higher cliffs and not being able to climb them, not to mention geometry issues and getting stuck quite a bit.
Essentially its a slightly buggy game at the moment but extremely fun to play plus appealing to my XCOM love with permadeath and other things.

I haven't encountered those issues tbh and I'm enjoying the game a lot however Detroit is getting my time now but SoD2 is very fun.

This is a fundamentally bad thread and you shouldn't have written it.

There's an OT.

There is a OT for this, but I'm also a fan of SOD1 and like SOD2 a lot so far. Of course the bugs and jank don't help, but your title is so far off the mark.

"Buggy" doesn't fall under the "fundamentally bad" category as far as I'm concerned, pal. The latter to me implies poor design, stuff that can't be fixed with a patch, which isn't what you seem to be talking about here. I'm sure you have valid reasons for disliking it (haven't played it myself) but you gotta use language that actually describes your problem, not just random words.

Nice opinion piece there OP but I'm having a blast playing the game and I definitely do not share your sentiment.

I was actually up till 2am playing last night because I couldn't put it down.

Played it for 6 hours straight the other night, well on the way to the 50 i spent with the first game.

It's great imo.

I have not had your issue with availability of vehicles. It has more bugs than it should but i disagree that it is fundamentally bad.

I've had a lot of fun in the time I've had.

Eh, it's not that bad. Lots of little issues for sure, but it's still very fun for me even after 10 hours.

It's not a zAAAmbie game by any means but it's not fundamentally broken either. I think it's quite fun for a freebie on game pass. Disappointed I bought the ultimate edition but hype got the best of me.

It's got real jank, but the core gameplay loop is addicting as hell.

Also the lowered vehicle RNG is intentional since the first game had so many vehicle spawns and made the game mega easy.

I don't think it's a 'bad' game. That being said, it needed about 6 more months in the oven. Maybe if they had delayed it to Aug or Sept, it wouldn't have turned out as rough.

I trust you, MilesQ, but I would love if you elaborated more on how bad the game is more than just vehicles and bugs. Just go all in, drop all the paragraphs!

Strong advice, don't listen to other's people opinion and try the game by yourself.
GamePass is cheap, you can "waste" 10 bucks to try the game.

no xbox, plan on playing PC (edit: seems gamepass honors MS PC games? hmm, maybe)

really more a matter of not wanting to deal with windows store for a potentially so-so game. waiting it out to see if it winds out on steam

Been playing it on Game Pass. Would never pay more than $20 for it. I can't even get a base setup, needs 400 influence? I have to grind to even get started lol.

This game reminds me a lot of games made by Piranha Bytes in terms of jank but overall I'm enjoying it. Then again I platinumed Elex so maybe I'm just broken.

Played quite a bit of it on release week. Back and forth between Xbox and PC. Now issues or bugs here, but I haven't tried co-op. Good fun to me :shrug

The beauty of Gamepass. No need to buy anything, no need to listen to hyperbolic user reviews and get scared away or hyped up for stuff that isn't important for you, you can just calmly download the game and start playing and make up your own opinion about the game. :)
