Full Article: https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/59q98k/pewdiepie-alinity-copyright-feud-twitch-fails

"An ongoing feud between Felix Kjellberg, better known as Pewdiepie—the most popular YouTuber in the world—and popular Twitch streamer Alinity Divine, is a perfect example of how women are still objectified, vilified, and exploited in the gaming community, simply because they are women.

Earlier this month, Kjellberg, who has more than 63 million subscribers, uploaded a video of himself testing the Tobii eye tracker, which is able to show in real time what a user is looking at on the screen. Kjellberg invited fans on Twitter to send him videos to view, and recorded the results. One of the videos he watched, "SEXIEST TWITCH GIRL STREAMERS APRIL 2017!!! #2," was a compilation that featured Alinity."

"While Kjellberg struggled to keep his eyes off their chests, he "jokingly" called women in the video "stupid Twitch thots," a derogatory term for women that stands for "that ho [whore] over there." Alinity saw a video and retaliated by filing a copyright claim with YouTube.

In his latest video on the subject, uploaded Wednesday, Kjellberg chastised Alinity for filing the claim, and suggested that Alinity somehow deserves the abuse she is getting online for wearing revealing clothes. He shows examples of times when she wore a sheer top and her bra straps showed, or when she played Just Dance in a dress.

"You're just playing games with the shortest skirt ever, that's our fault for looking at it in any sexual way, right?" Kjellberg said in the video. "I know you don't portray yourself to be the smartest person, but I know you're not that dumb to not be aware of what you're doing," he says. "Showing your underwear on screen? That's our fault, right?""

Now I don't want this to be a "hate on Pewdiepie" thread but it's something that should be called out and discussed, especially when you have million of kids looking to him as an role model/entertainer. Why are so many big mainstream Youtubers and Twitch players like this? What can we do to encourage people to drop people like Felix who treat others poorly or say/do horrible things without consequence and support streamers and Youtubers who haven't made as many bad choices as Felix has?

MOD EDIT: Reminder that any posts shaming streamers for their outfits or sex appeal, along with any comments rationalizing harassment of any kind, will be moderated accordingly.

Give a young adult a job that pays millions, then have them have no boss and millions of worshipping fans. That's how you get this

...

So basically...

PewDiePie is dumb af? Who knew...

(I think the title is a bit misleading though. It should just detail the incident itself.)

I didn't know that kid of ocular tech was out in public (and the link does work lol).

Offhand this sounds bad, but I'd need to see the video. Girls do use twitch akin to live sex sites where they will get in skimpy clothes and that is their entire gambit. So I would need to see whether he's insulting them or girls like Hafu who sells on her playing the game instead of low cut clothing.

If the n word didn't get people to drop him neither will this.

I also don't have a problem with people using their sex appeal to get views, good looking people in general get more viewers and that's just life.

And as wrong as he was for some of the things he said, the headline in that article is reaching.

The article makes it seem as if he's blaming them for their own harassment. They dress skimpy and play games for money - not abuse.

This is blown out of proportion in the dumbest way, it is apparent when you watch the video that he is only defending himself from someone who seems to enjoy copyright claiming people's content at will.

And the examples he's using was in reference to the abuse she's getting but the fact that's she's an example of a streamer that uses her body to bring attention to her streams. He was commenting on her being appalled at being seen as something sexual, when that's literally her brand. The type that make being a female streamer on Twitch harder. You wanna talk about influencing impressionable kids, I can assure you that her audience isn't getting the right kind either.

Having watched all the videos related to this incident, I really don't think that he was saying she deserved the abuse. He even said in the last video that she should be left alone.

Also, he did make a video apologizing to her first in which he admitted having misused the word and said we wouldn't do it again. Why isn't this mentioned in the article?

Didn't she get a lot of flak because she laughingly said she married a guy just to move to Canada then divorced him as soon as she got citizenship on a stream? They both seem gross in this. Youtube/Twitch drama is the worst.

She also said the N word and her excuse was "I think I'm 1/10th black so I can".

Nah fuck her.

Pewdiepie's behavior is inexcusable and he should get called out for it as his behavior affects all women.

But can we not defend Alinity either. She has said the N word recently and has said that she makes money from copy striking people, certainly not a saint.

I agree with this. Maybe shouldn't call them thots. But the revealing clothes some streamers wear while streaming is dumb. Should be able to get by with your personality and talking with your audience.

I never got that impression from watching Pewdiepie's video.

Did you guys just read the article's headline or did you see his video?

You wanna know the saddest part about these women streamers using sex appeal?

Hitomi Tanaka is capable of streaming on twitch without being practically naked or using donations to flaunt her body. It was just her playing mario kart and talking to chat.

A JAV star is setting a better example for the platform than most others.

Sorry, it's a PDP hate thread because he's a racist prick and this is only yet another example of him being trash.

Yeah that's the impression I got.

And to be honest it's hard to watch Twitch IRL and think it's anything other than softcore cam girls.

PewDiePie is an asshole, nothing is surprising about this. Also nothing will happen as a result, sadly.

I thought the main driving force behind all of this drama was Ailinity copyright striking his video because he called her a thot. Essentially abusing the whole copyright system, she even bragged about it & then backtracked when the whole thing kinda blew up in her face :o

The article seems quite bait-like to me :p

Yikes. Do you people read only headlines or something ? I don't really like PewDiePie but in this case I wouldn't be so sure to call that he is "teaching his audience that women are asking for it".

He misused "thots" how? Did he not mean it? He wasn't drunk, I'm guessing, said it of sound mind.

The comments in the video are one thing, retweeting a misleading statement that she committed visa fraud is another thing entirely. Dude's garbage and he is in part responsibile for how his bordeline hateful, directed content towards individuals leads viewers to harass his subjects

Sunday, Kjellberg retweeted a video of a fan of his saying they were going to report Alinity to the "Canadian immigration control" to his 16 million followers. The implication here is that Alinity got a fraud marriage to establish residency and should be deported, something that goes beyond online harassment and threatens her physical safety.

The video Kjellberg retweeted is a clip ripped from one of her video streams in which Alinity explains that she immigrated from Colombia to Canada after marrying a Canadian man. After being married for a year, she divorced him, she said. Alinity later explained that she did not commit marriage fraud, but taken out of context, the clip makes her seem opportunistic.

It's hard to take any of them seriously. He's an asshole and she obviously users her appearance and sexuality to gain viewers.

A bit late but the situation
is a lot more complicated.
Yep. I hate Pewdiepie as much as the mexy person who's not antisemitic, but its not a just a story of "women are asking for it". I dont think Felix even tried to communicate something like that...am I wrong? Like, seriously, if y'all interpreted it differently then I would have to reconsider my opinions.

a streamer who's earliest claim to infamy is screaming "RAPE" over everything has bad views on women?

inconcievable.

(Still horrible, but if the Nazi and N word shit wont get him to change, nothing probably will.)

How are these women dumb? If anything, they're smart since they get a lot of views by playing with their sex appeal.

He tried out he eye tracker and asked people to send videos. They then sent clips of female twitch gamers, he made that joke and then Alinity, who was in the compilation of clips decided to claim money from his videos. She then tried to damage control for claiming money and abusing a problematic YouTube system because she was upset at him, but her statement didn't get a really good response because she was trying to backtrack but the footage shows her saying she's gonna claim from the video and there was more about her gloating but he didn't show that video, because he didn't want to show a video of her.

Personally I don't think this issue is about PewDiePie advocating that these twich streamers are asking for abuse. It came about Alinity abusing this YT system

That goes in conflict with the article, who talks about objectifying girls because he looked at their chests (which girls do to guys lol). What those girls do is objectifying themselves. So by the authors own morality, the author has conflicted theirself in their own article.

Seen all the videos about this incident and this article is blowing things way out of proportion and portraying things in a very misleading way.

But I guess some Era members jumping to conclusions just based on an article title is normal...
