A lot of people are saying after playing god of war, some of other games are hard to jump in.

I had that feeling before God of War launch and was eager to play God of War. But after playing that, I am eagerly picking up a lot of backlog games.

I started and finished AC:Origins. It is great, but the grinding to match quest level is not good at all and I like Bayek.

I jumped back to Ni No Kuni 2. I stopped at the start of Kingdom Building part. I wasn't feeling good about the game. But after in AC grinding to level up, I enjoy in NNK2 I can fight enemies of 7 or 8 level higher than me with a little challenge, but just as the game grows on me, the skirmish grind part is incoming. BTW, I am trying to read the conversation with some patience, which I didn't have before God of War.

I even finished a few chapters of FFXV. I didn't think I hate fetch quest. I don't hate them in NNK2 which has a lot of them. But in FFXV, I don't know why. I hate them. BUT, anywhere I am having playing FFXV.

And I am close to beat Rise of Tomb raider. I don't feel it is much different from first one.

Anyway, I don't think I enjoy all those games more than God of War. I do enjoy and want to play backlog games more.

Nu God of War was so bad it increased your appreciation of actual good game design. It's not hard to extrapolate that information. :^)

God of War kickstarted your joy to play videogames again. That's awesome, man :D

The new God of War is fantastic. It has a Nintendo-like focus on feel and flow, with a great density of ideas throughout, and well-crafted mechanics that are intuitive and fun. The gameplay feels like the best of Nintendo or Capcom, while the production values are clearly Sony.

It's a great combination and my current Game of the Year. If it had come out last year, it would've been in my Top Five. I hope other Western devs take a cue from its Japanese-like focus on gameplay.

Right now, I'm playing The Witcher 3 for the third time.

It's great, but loading screens this time, after playing God of War, is a nightmare!

I envy you. It's not like I don't like to play games anymore, it's just that I burned myself getting the Platinum. I played so much for so many days straight that I haven't touched a game since.

Witcher 3 load times almost made me stop playing the game tbh. Just awful. I could make breakfast, shower, go outside for a run, come back and the game would still be loading.

Basically, god of war sparked your gaming hobby. Good to hear a fellow gamer enjoying more games.

Keep it up.

Yeah same, I took a good break for gaming and GoW really lit the fire again.

Inspired me to try finishing Horizon again

After monster Hunter world, I didn't think I really liked a game. Even jumping back to bloodborne to do a skill build character.

Nnk2 is such a contrast. I disliked it a lot but now I am in for some grind....

Might sound corny but God Of War made me appreciate my PlayStation more — and therefor made me want to explore other first party games too.

That's some deep shit when you think about it.

Single Player games always offer more satisfying experiences, so playing God of War should encourage people to finish more similar games.

Same thing happened to me. I always play games, but I definitely have lulls where I'm not massively in the mood for them. Coincidence or not, God of War got me right back into playing more stuff.

I've beaten about five games since God of War, which is unusual pace for me.

I felt the same way OP, I dug into my backlog in the following weeks with Dragon Quest Heros, Uncharted LL, Rise of TR, Titan Fall 2, and now Yakuza 0. I have been in a lul for a long while, playing a game here and there but i haven't been driven to play games for a long while with a pretty large growing backlog. I would rather kill time on era or twitch but now i am back to enjoying games myself.

After finishing God of war I knew I wanted to give horizon another go and have no regrets. Fantastic game, I started it again am completely hooked. I think God of war being a traditional game reminds of how important it is to enjoy all of the story of games.

You're probably not that far off. For people in a video game rut, I always suggest Nintendo. Just instant gameplay with polish and depth, and not too much modern story / grind stuff dragging it down.

I guess for non-Nintendo players, GoW could do that.

Same for me OP. Was playing games barely for 3-4 hours/week, for the last few months before GOW release. Would have spent 20-30 hours playing GOW in its release week and now after moving on to other games, continuing to play almost everyday for few hours. That "mountain" of backlog games, doesn't look that daunting now :D

I also like that the new God of War feels very thoughtful and sensitive. Kratos is clearly a man haunted by his monstrous deeds who desperately wants his son to be a better person than him. The game's handling of violence doesn't feel gratuitous, either. It just feels very smart.

I was in a rut last year and I thought Mario Odyssey will bring me out of it. It fell into an even bigger rut after ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BotW was opposite though. It really depends on the game.

The same thing happened to me with Bloodborne. I had it for 2 years, but put no time into it past Gascoigne. When the news hit that it was coming to PS+, it sparked something in me to put the disc back in. I was then hooked, downloaded the DLC and felt a drive to, and Platted the game.

God of War just put that into the next level for me. Working on the Plat which I should have soon (I do not Plat many, but do enjoy them in certain games). Nioh is next on my list!

What also helped me from 'gaming fatigue/rut' that I had for some time, instead of taking a break from gaming in general which makes it hard to get back into, I just change up the traditional games and went old school. Which that was PnC Adventures.

The PS+ version of Book of Unwritten Tales 2 for the PS3 was a great break from the standard fatigue, and helped keep me playing overall, and dive more into my backlog. Also caused me to purchase Thimbleweed Park which I am excited to play, as well as other great stylized games like Firewatch, Virginia, Kona, etc..

I'm loving God of War, but there is this one tiny thing that kind of bothers me. I feel like the kid plays too much the roll of "the voice of the designer pointing you though the right direction". I was playing today and the kid was like "Wow we just discovered this new information! we can go and explore this new area". Some games do that in a more subtle way with symbols and colors that make you feel like you are the one who found out what to do next. That also happens a lot in Uncharted. If it takes you a little bit of time to figure out a puzzle, some character starts dropping hints "Hey look at that shiny rock! I bet we can shoot at it". As I said, I'm still having a lot of fun with the game but these moments take me out of the relationship between the two characters and I see him more like a humanized arrow pointing me to a certain path.

More than anything, God of War makes me want more of it. I am frothing at the mouth for story expansion. Or better yet... a sequel... and I haven't really craved a game sequel in a long time.

That has happened to me a few times. I get burned out, then one of these amazing games comes out, and it makes me want to keep playing games.

Right now this happened to me with the Rift, I got excited that I was getting it so I have been playing other games the past two weeks while I waited for it.

For a few reasons I hadn't played games really for almost a year other than some Dark Souls with friends and a few other cooperative stuff with friends. I played God of War, loved it, and since then I've been playing games like I used to.

Don't exactly know why, but I feel you OP.

I haven't finished God of War yet, but I feel like this might be the game that finally gets me back into trying out single player games.
