Lol.. so many people grasping for straws..

Tamed, as in the synonym for cultivate? To bring in to service, rendering land useful and manageable; under control, as natural resources or a source of power.

Wow.. breaking news indeed. ITT, people with a limited vocabulary.

As in "taming savages."

Check my prior post. He's racist as shit when it comes to natives... and everyone else, really.

My jaw literally dropped.

So much for dog whistles.

Fake edit: How much money you wanna bet that Sanders is going to say Donald was talking about Europe/Asia during wars, and not the obvious Native American implication?

What a disgusting person.

Also "our anscestors"? Your mom was from Scotland and your dad's parents were from Germany. But if you want to get in on the genocide ownership, be my guest. Yet another thing trump takes credit for.

I mean, not that Trump isn't a piece of shit, but this has been America's attitude for hundreds of years even before he got elected. Things ain't getting better with him in charge though, that's for sure.

I mean what can you even say?

So he acknowledges it and goes "so the fuck what? Deal with it?"

Part of me knows he is just saying this to play to his base for 2020 but still...to actually say it

The worst thing is that he probably really thinks that we got this continent fair and square when the US government killed all those Native americans.

I just watched the Star Trek episode Space Seed and Kirk says that the Australian settlers "tamed a continent."

And I was like "that's pretty problematic, even for the 60s."

Dictionary.com owned by Fox News now?

The phrase "We are not going to apologize for America" implies that the building of America was all clean and clear and nothing bad happened. Even more in context to his full statement, it implies America still does nothing wrong. That's horseshit.

Can't wait for Sarah Sanders to explain that one for us.

She'll do her standard finger pointing and say "you all just didn't get it, sorry you're so dumb/biased."

It's a direct reference to referring to natives as savages and retconning them as not having functioning society and governance before Europeans showed up.\

Also, natives already knew proper farming and the Europeans spent decades relearning it. The land was already "useful".

That's not how I took that quote whatsoever, but you do you.

You took it completely wrong then. There is a history of dog whistle racist comments from him (and every other republican). The fact that you took it that way means you're either a trump supporter or incredibly ignorant and naive.

Isn't that pretty much the mission statement of those proud boys cunts? Refusing to apologize for stuff?

User Banned (3 Days): Downplaying the consequences of colonialism
This is not a controversial statement:

Tamed is a very common word used to described white people settling the American West.

Trounced an empire = England

Triumphed over evil = probably WWII

He says a lot of dumb shit, this is not worth getting worked up about.

He paid 1 million in ads to portray a tribe as cocaine trafficers.

What was there to "tame" aside from the unruly people who lived there? Tame is also often used in conjunction with "savage," a slur used both against my mother and grandmother.

I don't know why you're obtusely ignoring the language and context of his history with natives.

I have an Apache colleague who supports Trump. I am somewhat curious of what her reaction to this would be. Then again, if she hasnt stopped supporting by now, I guess this changes nothing for her.

He's going to double down on this when he's called on his shit - something about natives all welcoming the white man to the continent and being happy with reserves/genocide/etc

Is he really making a jab at Native Americans?
Isn't the first time.

I don't think any of us truly realize how dangerous his rhetoric is. Like, we might read this and say, "Fuck Trump," or "Shut up you orange bastard," etc., but this is really, really ominous language. Years from now, the history books will cite moments just like this one as the ground zeroes for this country's rise to fascism. This is how it starts.

I can't tell if you're intentionally being an idiot or if you thought Native Americans simply subsisted on air
