I'm very interested in how they are going to solve the problem of being able to identify friendly vs. enemy forces. I could be missing something obvious, though. Even BF1 has this problem a little bit because the characters didn't have great identifiable silhouettes so you were just looking for the friendly icons over everyone head and those without and I've never been a fan of it.

With everyone wearing their own skins I could see an issue distinguishing that but I assume they've accounted for it.

People are bitching that you can choose your character model including gender?

Holy fuck. So burnt out on the toxic culture.

Maybe each "faction" has their own unique skins that are distinguishable enough to tell the difference? So you'll collect Allied and Axis customizations separately.

I would be fine with that. Gender and race is fine, but weird hairdos, tatoos, wife beaters, biker jackets, prosthetics and all that, give us an option to hide all that.
That's exactly what the user in that tweet was asking and they're being berrated for it. Across this entire forum users are blanket calling anyone who doesn't like the new microtransaction cosmetics in BFV incels and misogynists, regardless of what they've think of the women in the game. Why is this okay?

Gotta love how the poster on the first page intentionally left out the latter half to fit his agenda. Basically sums on the discussion so far on this game. This forum included.

One of the animation lead's response to the idea that there should be an option to turn off skins:

To be fair, this guy was only talking about face paint, prosthetic arms & stuff. He didn't mention race/gender at all, but i 100% understand why the Dice guy thought that.
The guy was also replying to Ryan's post about people bitching about the prosthetic arms, not race/gender stuff.

That makes sense. I love they're allowing players to customize their characters this way but I hope it doesn't mean we lose the identifiable "Allied vs. Axis" nature, in terms of outfits.

I guess it would give them double the opportunities to sell skins because you'd be able to customize both your Allies and Axis skin.

Ok but why is accuracy suddenly a concern now with Battlefield? Have you always felt this way about the inaccuracies of the Battlefield series?
Don't try to start that bullshit. Insinuating stuff. I'm just pointing out a fact. Nothing more, nothing less. Do we really need to stoop to the level of "the other side" by making up or ignoring facts?
And what are those glaring historical inaccuracies in preview historical battlefields you are talking about? Tell me, please. Maybe some tank/weapon that wasn't used in the area of the world where the particular map you are playing on takes place? Minor stuff, and par for the course in the type of game Battlefield is. It's not a simulation game, but it's never been anywhere near as zero fucks given about authenticity as COD.

I swear era has made me jaded on this topic, but this is the correct response for ea to take on the matter. Its baffling that this is a debate at all, if you are having problems with women being in a video game, you have much bigger issues to deal with.

Ohh man.
What a response.

Im actually surprised theres actually any sort of controversy.

Watching the live reveal and peoples "hands=on" impressions, i was super sold on this game. Pretty much everything during the reveal and supporting videos just made me want the game more and more.

I wasnt really excited for Battlefield 1, but Battlefiled V looks like im gonna day one this game....well im on EA Access so i guess a few days early. No Premium Pass as well.

And if DICE keep supporting this game, it might tide me over till next-gen, wont need any other online shooter till 2020 for sure.

So you're saying soldier in WW2 were clones that looked alike? I for one welcome customization and colors.

Same way you find enemies in something like Overwatch. Red names, enemy patterns. Know your team.

Assuming you actually don't care about genders and races being customizable, what is the point of asking developers to change their entire intended art style for a game just to fit your whims?

If you don't like the art style of the characters, you don't have to play the game.

This would be like me going to Cory Barlog and saying, "hey it's really distracitng that Kratos isn't wearing a shirt the whole time, can I have a checkbox in the menus to make him wear a tank top or something?"

I feel like you'd have a point if God of War was attempting to accurately depict a historic event.

How unprofessional, the user even pointed out they're talking about the cosmetic items not the genders. Games like World of Tanks offer this option so why the need to be an ass about it?
Even the default outfits in BF games contain inaccuracies and artistic liberties. What do you think he means by "generic?"

But it is though, depending on the context. The fact that the Gaters are misogynist assholes doesn't change that fact. There were no female soldiers in the combat troops in the western armies. At the absolute most still less than 1%. Just because these guys sucks doesn't give us license to make up history.
Go back to school and stop treating a game series that debuted with as "a comicbook version of WWII" as a history lesson. How concerned were you that BF1 literally made up history?

This controversy is one of the stupidest things i have seen recently.

Trailer showed what looked like a fucking looney tunes cartoon with unrealistic bullshit happening all around, yet people thought the "unrealistic" part was that women were in it?

Fucking idiots.

I edited it one just as an example, but the machine gun gameplay of BF1 basically makes it a WW1 game in name only. It's a way bigger departure than face paint.

And do you honestly feel Battlefield 4 represents modern warfare? Do you think shooting RPGs from the backseat of a motorcycle roving across the land, ejecting out of jets to snipe an enemy pilot and then parachuting back in represents this? What about Battlefield multiplayer feels authentic to you?

I am not someone who interacts with the Battlefield community online but have played the games a lot, and I am honestly pretty surprised the populace gives any fucks about historical accuracy because of how arcade-y the multiplayer is.

Kinda a little, but one look at Youtube or Reddit understandably has anyone at Dice on edge. They probably didn't think their community would react like this. I really thought the typical BFV hate would be "EA are greedy" (my take) & "WW2 is boring" but the hate towards Women so much is disappointing.

We talked about this on our podcast this week and absolutely condemned the arguments against the game. We got quite a bit of push back because of it. Mostly from the "don't change history" people, who we responded to with links to stories of historical female figures in WWII. The whole thing is ridiculous.

And everyone was giving DICE shit before the reveal.

"DICE doesn't have the courage to put women in the game!" said Era

I love gaming/nerd culture so much but man do we have some serious issues. I mean people are really sticking their neck out trying to defend why women shouldn't be playable. Like holy shit, we have to do better.
It's not just gaming culture. That's the real issue.

Good

I remember this same shit happening with COD WWII. At the end of the day, it's a WWII themed shooter. If people can deal with unrealistic video game mechanics like respawning, they should be able to handle a female character model.

But try to take away the ability to put C4 on a teammate blasting them into the air, so that they can parachute, and launch a rocket at an enemy plane, and then cut their chute and sky dive into the plane, stealing it.

Was this dude ok with BF1 having exotic weapon skins, being able to add dumb looking modern emblems into WW1 weapons/tanks and with everyone running Arab swords?

Why ask for a filter now?

Good point. I do question whether or not this is actually their "community" or just passerbys who want to shit over anything and everything, but yeah... everyone is so edgy on the subject that's it's become automatic. That in and of itself is an issue in general and it's not just in this industry. We need to be better!

Soldiers in actual uniform, one of the guys running around looked like Kratos on a diet lmao.

Ok, I have to admit, that guy might a bit over the top, but chances are, he's a coop character. In multiplayer, I'd like to be able to distinguish classes and factions easily, hopefully the customization isn't too much so you cannot be mistaken for someone else.

Can someone tell me what the "garish garbage" or "Fortnite graphics" are in this? Because I honestly don't get it.

battlefield%20v%20premium%20pass.jpg

Battlefield V isn't either.

I think its about how you can customise the characters.

Apparently some people want all soldiers in BFV to look grimm dark and in uniform, and it breaks their game if somebody looks "cartoony", or "not like a WW2 soldier should look like".
