I mean, they don't have a ton of work to do in terms of localizing. December is my best guess, with 4 just 2-3 months after and the same for 5 after that. Fist of the North Star sometime in the Spring next year too cause why not?
If they decide to include all the mini games that was cut in the english version that mean more work for the translation team since it's not in the ps3 english version already

You know very well if they do anything and edit any content there will be vocal group of people who will call them out for 'censoring' the game.
Already begun on Reddit. I was reading one of the Yakuza threads on the PS4 channel earlier and a couple of people are already whining about the proposition of them editing certain dialogue/side stories etc. even though it'd be smart for Sega to do so.

The transphobic side quest already got mentioned. The original script also had a way more racist and prejudice undertone against foreign or mixed race character than the English script. Sega already changed that one for the English release to make it sound more neutral. I'm glad to hear that they want to change some things and I hope it includes the ones mentioned here.

Is Michiru a trans character? Wasn't sure if the game was poking fun at transgender people, or the drag queen subculture.
And then, you have the absolute opposite end of writing, with the loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong (its very long) talkie bit in the Diet building about the military base. That bit just didn't seem to want to end. Good thing Mad Dog Majima showed up at the end of that chapter to raise the mood!

The drag queen subculture. Michiru does show up in both Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5 as the hostess of a drag bar in the Champion district.

There was one side quest that had a trans person and the game called them "it". Seems to be some kind of Japanese humor but I imagine and hope it gets fixed. Especially in the west.
Someone who who've actually played the Japanese version would have to chime in to know for sure, but it's possible this specific thing is more a localization issue. Gendered pronouns are often omitted in Japanese, making it likely that the original dialog simply left the character's gender unspecified and the translator used "it" as a ham-fisted way of approximating that in English.

That could be the case. I mean the whole localisation of Yakuza 3 was weird with many changes like the names and such. I can definitely see the old localisation team doing this so who knows. Hopefully the current localisation team find a way to fix that. T
If Yakuza Kiwami localisation is any indication then it is likely in good hands.

She's referred to in ways that you would refer to an object. It would be considered very dehumanizing by most standards.

We're getting Kiwami 2 faster than anyone ever believed was possible, and these same complaints came about before they announced it. It doesn't matter, the west has contributed to the decision to make these remasters and we are over crying into a pillow.
Yeah I want to believe this too, Yakuza 6 was the highest selling entry too in the west iirc. Let's keep support these gems peeps

Actually the interview specifically said Asian market is the target for 3-5. Which is why Chinese and Korean version are getting release the same time as Japanese version.

The asian market is huge of course, Yakuza 0 supposedly sold more in asia than what the series sold in the west up to that point in time. It's great that japan alone doesn't hold the burden of supporting the series.

I hope Sega can re-add the cut content to 3 or at least clean up the localized versions so missing quests are not as obvious.

That said, same as with any other Yakuza games, Day 1. Also, considering that Kiwami 2 is releasing in August, late fall for Yakuza 3 should be doable.

Dead horse beater here: they really should at least test the waters on Xbox. I own a Pro and eagerly await 3, 4, and 5. But I can't lie, I'd like this series on X

I doubt 3 would be anything other than the full version if released in the US; I feel like somehow preserving the cutting of content just to not have to retranslate things would be a huge hassle, especially since they'd probably want to retranslate it anyway?

Oh, hmm. That's disappointing to hear; I'm playing 2 now and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it handled Earth Angel (slightly...) better than that mission in 1.

I love Y3 and it was my first Yakuza so, I'll probably will buy it down the line if localized

Also, 1080p60 Yakuza 5 should look really really good.

Guess I'll hold off on Yakuza 6 and play the whole damn series now.
I played the whole series out of order. Started on this one, didn't play 4, then I played the opening chapters of 5 (lost interest after Kiryu's part ended), then 0, then Kiwami, then 6. They're all standalone titles so it doesn't make enjoy the games any less that I didn't play them in the right order

Why would they want to throw away money when the majority of sales come from Japan?
And what difference would it make on the x? It's already 4k/60fps on the pro.

They already tested the waters on the Wii U and it didn't work

my guess if they were going to test the waters again it would be a PC release but by going by sato's comments is not to expect that anytime soon if at all.

Saying that it wouldn't work on Xbox because it didn't work on Wii U (a console that didn't sell) is an awful argument. Besides, it was an HD port of PS2 games. Not the best choice to test the waters, even in Japan.

This is awesome. I am just finishing up my playthrough of Yakuza 0 and going to move on to Kiwami soon, and now I got Kiwami 2 coming in August.

Now there is a Yakuza 3 remaster in the works. I guess they'll call it Yakuza Kiwami 3?

For the record I started the series with 4 and use the recaps to catch up before beating the game, and started 5 but I didn't finish it, been meaning to return to it before I start 6.

3 and 5 are the only games I have yet to play. I need a reason to open up my copy of 6 after all. This is amazing.

I think you're massively underestimating how many Wii Us were sold in Japan at the time vs Xbox Ones that have been sold there now.

Cause unless the figures I've just found are wildly off, it's like 10x more Wii Us.

Though you are right in that it was just an HD port of those games, and a port that was already out on PS3 for a bit as well.

I wasn't talking about the number of Xbox One sold in Japan. But everywhere else.

Besides, only 3 million Wii U were ever sold in Japan. The console was released in December 2012 and Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Wii U was released on August 8th 2013. So I truly believe that saying that Yakuza games wouldn't sell on other platforms because 1 & 2 HD didn't sell on the Wii U in Japan is wrong on a few levels.

Are we even sure the game still sells more in Japan than overseas at this point? Kiwami 2 didn't do that well and the series is in a constant decline. Meanwhile it's more popular than ever in the west.

Nope. Its just called Yakuza 3. Kiwami is what is used for the remakes of 1 and 2. This is just a remaster of the PS3 game (no real graphical upgrades outside the res bump from what I see in the trailer) which is a pity as I love the new dragon engine, but 60FPS will be very nice for the remasters.

In Japan alone? Unsure as we don't get overseas sale, but Asia as a whole? Probably. There's a reason why they aim for Korea and China releases day and date with the Japanese release, as the series has become increasingly popular over there. But Sega is getting Kiwami 2 released in English at record pace, so they are clearly trying harder than previously (that 3 year wait for 5 sucked).

Considering all three PS3 remasters are coming out in quick succession, I wonder how quick the turn around will be for localization.

Unlike other games, most of Yakuza's translations are entirely just English subtitles and menus, as opposed of a lengthy VA process for dub purposes. Since they typically don't touch the voice work the localization process should be much quicker relatively.

Is is costly and wasteful to bring it to the pc? Also if they can get this to run 4k and 60fps on the Pro there is no reason it wouldn't be able to be released on Switch, you know, where a major population in Japan is available. Looks to me Sony is once again leveraging itself with third party which is kind of a shame to be honest.

A demo for the PlayStation 4 is now available in Korean PS Store.
It's coming to Japanese PSS, too.

Edit. Hong Kong PS Store, too!

Yeah, just saw the news in the other thread (and on Gematsu). I can't try it until tonight, but this is great news. I'll be playing the heck out of it later.
