Damn... Really sad news. I never was the biggest fan but I did watch his WTF is videos occasionally. He was a great critic.

Rest in peace John.

Even though we have come a long way fighting cancer we still have a long ways to go. It has impacted each and every one of us one way or another, may he now rest in peace.

RIP TB. Didn't expect this to hit me as hard as it has, but it's difficult not to feel sad and think about this. A loss for the gaming community and industry, for sure.

Pixelbuster as you have the OP it would be nice if you have time to maybe compile the Twitter and other tributes in the OP so they're saved for the future

I remember the OP of the Iwata thread at the old place did that and as a consequence it's really nice to go back to that thread and see all the tributes in one place

Never followed TB too much, most games that he covered favoured little interest for me. But his coverage of some games i had interest in was superb. Cancer is one SOaB

R.I.P. Condolences to his family and friends.

What's strange (and will be for a while), his twitch is hosting a channel as i write this.

R.I.P. TB

Wasn't an avid watcher of content but did watch some of his WTF vids and podcasts.
I remember watching his best of 2017 vid recently and he sounded terrible. His voice literally sounded like his life had been drained away. I knew the end was coming soon but it doesn't make it easier to read right now

This is bullshit and you know it, cancer.

This guy was a significant part of my life for the past seven years. First guy talking about video games on YouTube I started watching regularly somewhere around his first Magicka video. He's partially responsible for me coming back to gaming. I learned about many indies thanks to him and I can't imagine I'd be as much into them over AAA games if not for him and his influence. I started listening to podcasts due to his show, too. When I'm down, I often rewatch some of his work I enjoyed, in recent time when he couldn't produce much I rewatched stuff, too. At times it just felt like your mate who talks A LOT over you, haha.

I'm kinda devastated that I'll never again hear him say something I didn't hear already, that he won't be part of future gaming and holy fuck, I'm just some rando watching his stuff and this guy was significant to me. I wish to those close to him to have strenght.

TB, YOU ARE A DARK WIZARD.

This news is a punch in the gut.

The guy was such a fighter, I had forgotten that he had terminal cancer as he seemed to be constantly kicking it's ass, defying expectations etc. My thoughts are with his family, friends and fans at this time.

I'll keep building those Pylons for you dude.

Years ago I ran into him at a convention and he gave me a big sweaty bearhug and bought me a drink just because I was wearing a Shining Force t-shirt.

RIP John, I'll think of you every time I see an FOV slider.

RIP.

While I didn't care for his content I know a lot of people did and props to him for continuing to work while he was going through all of this for so long. Takes a other level of determination.

I remember watching a lot of his videos talking about steam and game a bunch of years ago and really appreciating his insight.
I was happy when he seemed to have beaten the cancer the first time, and I really sad it dindt totally go. My father had also cancer like 3 years ago, and he is better now and hope it doesnt happent he same.
May he rest in peace, he was too young to go.

Left my best wishes to TB's family before I went to bed last night but I can't believe there are people that came into that thread to proselytise about how bad TB was when a family has lost it's father. Some people think they're so virtuous and yet completely lack a shred of empathy.

Disgusting really.

I'm not generally much of a youtube personality watcher, but TB did some really good work.
Especially in spreading knowledge about less-known quality games, but also in the SC2 scene.
RIP

He was also almost exactly my age, which really gives you something to think about.

One of his most enduring contributions is shifting the perception of these things as arcane, backend nitpicks that only the nerdiest of nerds complain about, to becoming near baseline (we still have a ways to go) QoL expectations. It wasn't that long ago when people openly mocked these kinds of criticism but I see much less of it now.

There is no reason consumers should have to put up with headaches from FoV or framerate related issues which could be easily remedied with options that are arbitrarily hidden. Or that binding keys to your preference should be hampered (especially if you have some type of disability), etc.
This is a good point.

TB held himself to a higher standard than most of the actual professional gaming outlets, and he was just one man. The way he ran his channel is the golden standard. Games media needed him, he changed the game forever, and he will be missed.

RIP. I started watching his content when he was making WoW cata videos and ever since I kept watching his new videos. Stuff like WTF and co-optional podcast were amazing shows.
Many years my saturday morning routine was to fire up co-optional podcast and start a day with that, I'm gonna miss that show and TB himself. TB was an amazing guy, nuff said.

I know his brother, they're a set of good eggs that family. He'll be greatly missed. I think John would appreciate more Alaskan malamutes in the thread.

Damn it, I am a huge fan of his and some part of me always hoped he would somehow find a way to beat this.

Rest in peace John.

At least we can all rest easy that every damn game in heaven will have an FOV slider now

A good reference but I'd suggest also a lesson. I would love to see all the passion and effort directed by some of his fanbase, redirected into supporting medical research and promoting education and science.

Fuck cancer is a good and appropriate forum post, but we should all be helping to fuck it up for real.

RIP. May cancer get fucked.

way too young. cancer really is the worst.

i feel mixed on his contribution to the games conversation (this thread and this day are not the place and time to go into details) but the sheer volume of work he did is undeniable. his "wtf is" series was a public service in its breadth and depth

i wish his family the best during these trying days
