The fact that you need to pay a subscription, then buy cars and tracks on to of that (not to mention the need for a wheel setup) in iRacing helps weed out those who are not serious about the whole thing.
Also in iRacing you can't just hop on and race LMP1 cars from day one, you need to work your way up from the bottom in a safe manner. So when you finally get to drive higher powered cars you should be at the skill level necessary to be able to do so without wrecking yourself and other people.
The races are also far too short in GT sport which promotes "do or die" high risk manoeuvres. The "endurance" daily is the shortest they should be imo. Oh and every race should have live qualifying, not just the FIA dailies.
During the membership sales, the rookie races can definitely feel like GTS races in terms of the skill level breadth. I am a firm believer in the consequence of damage always being there helps people get better at racing. Just like turning the racing line assist off, you will learn more about the track and how to go faster with it off. I also 100% agree that all GTS races need to be at a minimum of the "endurance" race distance. The lobby system is still super pathetic. A good shuffle mode in there with race playlists would get some rif raf out of sport mode.
On another note, it seems SR doesn't even deduct points for wall collisions, spins or off track events anymore. I didnt qualify and got stuck in the back muck at Tokyo and just said eh fuck it I'll just drift around by myself for fun. I was trying to see the limits of SR and I couldn't get it to deduct anything! I was smashing walls, doing donuts, etc and it was green SR after green SR. No wonder pretty much everyone is SR S with their DR rankings all over the place. I don't know how you can have a system where the best drivers in the game, the A+ are marked as the same sportsmanship as DR C drivers who will push you wide into the grass every time.
