Microsoft is giving you full backwards compatibility to your old games (depending on licensing and shit) and Sony is going to sell you extra hardware to play something that should've been on their console years ago.

They also have a terrible PS2 classics collection that you need to rebuy and no PS3 solution besides expensive cloud stuff.

It's such a shame.
Blame Nintendo. Sony aping another idea from them

Considering how popular the NES and SNES classics were, this thread title probably qualifies for a "SHOCKING NEWS:" prefix.

People act like Nintendo invented the idea of a plug and play console. I was playing with these all the way back in 2004

Sega has been making those for years. Nintendo is in no way the first to do these. Also plug and plays have existed forever. That's all the Nintendo Classic is.

Like I said, they licensed it to third parties. Nintendo was the first hardware manufactor to make it internally instead of just license the brand to another company to make the consoles like Sega did for decades.

I'm not saying that Nintendo invented it btw, just that they were the first to do that without license it to other company like Tec Toy

The NES Classic was the first really made and given care by a company like Nintendo. The AtGames shit Sega and Atari licensed their name and games to have always been trash and never created anywhere near the amount of interest even if you can buy them at a Dollar General store.

Tell a Sony fan that Sony copies Nintendo and they will eat your face up, btw some Sony fan will reply to this comment with a console that came before NES classic and sold 10 units and say "look someone else did it before Nintendo"

If it happens, the PlayStation Classic absolutely must have have this intro

100%. Wouldn't be the same without it.

I'm all for a smaller version of the Playstation but high on my wishlist of this dream console would be original controller ports, if only so we could get an official re-release of the Dual Shock that would be compatible with original hardware.

So? Why can't Sony make a ps classic? This comes across real petty and salty.

Nintendo didn't invent the plug-and-play console, but they did show the world how successful one can be. Sony wouldn't even be considering this if it weren't for the success of the NES and SNES Classic.

Not that it really matters. Why shouldn't they enter the market as well? They absolutely should if they think they can create a successful product.

Not sure I would bite on a ps1 classic. Now, a ps2 classic, if priced correctly, I would buy that instantly

Didnt you know when Nintendo does something they invented it doesn't matter if a million others did it before them.

No one in this thread said this. Nintendo didn't invented this, but they were the first hardware manufactor to produce those consoles internally instead of license it and now with the success of NES classic and SNES classic other companies are following on this. If you think it's not because of what Nintendo did, it's pretty strange considering that Sega and now maybe Sony are doing it as well

I still have mine in the box, paid $20 brand new when they went on Clarence. I really need to look into it's capabilities more.

Still annoyed I missed out on that sale.

1 PS1 game takes up more storage space than 50 Snes roms.

Storage is cheap if you're not using proprietary Sony memory cards.

The NES Classic was the first really made and given care by a company like Nintendo. The AtGames shit Sega and Atari licensed their name and games to have always been trash and never created anywhere near the amount of interest even if you can buy them at a Dollar General store.

The Atari flashback was a legit SoC. You could even solder on a cart port and use original carts.

Sony's first party in those days wasn't as powerful or iconic as they are now, let alone Nintendo. A PS1 Classic would live and die by the power of the third party titles Sony could secure. Most games would have to be third party for it to be worth a damn. I dont think many would die for a console that only comes with the likes of Ape Escape, Jumping Flash, Parapa the Rapper, MedEvil, Wild Arms, and Twisted Metal.

Or you could be a grown up and just chuckle at us lowly people for bringing up said console as a valid reason instead of waving it away and posting a comment meant specifically to get ire from said fans.

Sony devaluing old games that they sold for much more on PS3? Color me skeptical. Are we sure we won't just be buying a little hardware unit and then purchasing each game separately? That sounds more in Sony's wheelhouse.

The best way to play PS1 games was on a Vita or PSP.

Those games do not look good at all on a modern TV. Not at all.

Lame. This is not meant for console wars. Microsoft builds a great backward compatibility model and this is sonys answer? Yes I get that sony is in the lead and they don't have to do jack shit. If they move forward with this I think it will really put into question the BC of ps4 titles to ps5. PlayStation has their streaming service. Why would they even support bc? Supporting older generation disks through emulation would be much better fan service.

tbh the only PS1 games that are worth going back to are the big RPGs and I ain't got time for that.
