I'm hyped for this. This looks like all the parts from Cage's games have come together in the right ways.

Friend of mine is playing since he got it in the mail yesterday somehow the post office delivered quicker..... for once
What a lucky person! I've never gotten a game early via the post, and often if I order for home delivery I'm just waiting for it to be delivered when I could have just gone to the shops and bought a copy.

Thankfully I could spare some data this month to download it digitally.

Game is preloaded and ready to go! Just a stupid timer stopping me from playing. Kinda sucks that lucky physical players can already play, but gotta them digital future quirks.

I didn't have the PSD and it was the middle of the night so I just remade the visuals but I tried to keep the style somewhat similar, it wasn't bad at all my dude.

Can't wait to talk about this game! Currently on playthrough three. Obviously can't say anything until embargo but I do want to say that I am now a fan of Bryan Dechart.

Excellent thread title, truly excellent.

Also i like that this OT is up the day before release. Don't like it when OTs go up too far in advance.

New interview (in French)

  • Detroit development took 4 years
  • Part of the team is on vacation while other parts of the team are working on what's next, on new tech and thinking of new ideas
  • With Detroit, Quantic wanted to deal with more real and serious topics than in their previous games. They also wanted to make a heavily branching story, and let the player tell their own story, through the gameplay, how they interact with the environment, not through cutscenes.
  • They realized that branching stories don't quite work out when the choices are too invisible, so they've decided to reveal the flowcharts to the player. Not all choices are identified right away, though: sometimes the flowchart shows that you've missed something at some point but won't tell you what it is until you go back and pick that choice
  • Players can miss entire scenes depending on their choices. Some characters may be present for a only a few minutes or until the end of the game.
  • Cage thinks you'll need to play the game 4 or 5 times if you cant to unlock everything in the flowchart
  • Cage recommends you don't go back during your first playthrough, but you can if you want, as soon as in the first scene.
  • You can go back to the beginning of a scene or to a specific checkpoint
  • Since they developed scenes that maybe only 10% of players will see, they thought it'd be important to let the players know of what they've missed
  • It takes quite some time to Platinum the game and unlock everything
  • Cage was impressed by location-based VR (wireless virtual reality experiences in a real environment), thinks it's extremely immersive
  • Cage thinks games will evolve towards more realism, more AI, etc.
  • Cage believes in multiplayer narrative games, would like to do it before others do
  • The first time Cage saw his motion capture team cry was when shooting a scene with Valorie Curry (Kara), which is unusual since everyone is so focused on their work
  • David Cage did not do mocap himself (not since Fahrenheit) since he's not an actor
  • David Cage to his critics: "Give Detroit a try and see if you like it more than my previous games!"
  • Cage says they develop things that not everyone likes, because they try new things and moves the goalposts. Some people love QD for that, while others dislike them
  • Interactive fiction is now a true genre and there's an audience for that
  • He's very interested by the debate around what a video game is - can video games talk about everything? Or are they just meant to be light and 'fun', and only a means of escapism? Cage thinks there are serious topics that video games can tackle but such topics aren't meant to be 'fun'
  • He thinks no topic should be off-limits for video games (as long as you deal with them in an intelligent, sensitive and respectful manner), just like with literature, cinema, etc.
  • Cage think there's a lot of very high-quality singleplayer games on PS4 and more will come. People are still interested in singleplayer games, the genre is not dead.
  • Quantic Dream could work with another publisher some day, after all they did it in the past. The company has existed for 21 years and they've worked with Sony for 12 years. It's been a long and extraordinary partnership. Sony took a risk with Heavy Rain and they've been very supportive of the team
  • Cage wants to create different experiences but it doesn't necessarily to mean narrative or photorealistic games. There's no rule, he follows his instinct. He thinks he's capable of doing other things and his team is talented enough to make very different things, too. He likes QD to be where nobody expects them. He likes to surprise players
  • Cage thanks everyone who've been interested in the game and hope the game will satisfy them and provide them with a different experience

I have come here to say I hereby claim the idea of playing the game choosing every wrong option and failing every QTE, then laughing like a maniac and recording myself.

Original idea do not steal.
