You know what this trailer made me want, that I didn't even know I wanted?

A sequel or spiritual successor to Singularity, with a protagonist that looks like the woman from this trailer, and the general color tone and atmosphere from the trailer as well.

That would be SO fucking cool. Singularity was an awesome game, but it didn't have that much of a visual identity, so I don't think anyone would be upset by the drastic change.

That's because the whole thing was cg
Even if you're right, while being an offline render would give them some advantages like not having to worry about asset streaming, it's still some really artistically impressive camerawork from their part. Realtime or not, that trailer had some impressive shit.

Include Russian women on the frontline, DICE. I can't recall the badass sniper with a record-breaking 200 kills, but that shit was batshit crazy. (Pavlichenko!)

I'm leaning back in favour, but I'm still not believing that's gameplay. Looks enhanced to me. Wait till E3 I suppose, but I'm not liking no auto-regeneration in health, and the corny dialogue; seriously... 'ello again geyser'. I don't like that, personally. i preferred the dialogue from BF3 and BF4; 'they got me pinned down over here'. Felt like I was in a real war scenario.

EDIT: I was originally jaded at the fact that there was British women in here. Guess what, as a history nerd for this period ~ I couldn't care less. They're only at fault for using the British, but seriously who gives a damn? The Russians had women on the frontline and operating in partisan groups across the country BEHIND the German reinforcements. If I recall correctly too, the French also had women.

I don't get why this is an argument to be honest.

Fantastic trailer, I adored it.

DICE has been doing a good job showcasing the parts of these World Wars that are not usually shown on movies and books.

I completely get why the Battlefield community is being stupid though, BF1 was infested with Trumpers during launch and most following months, DICE had to remove user icons from the game because of it.

I personally love games with vibrant colors. This game looks amazing and I hate those gritty brown and washed out ass colors where you can't see anything and it all blends in. You guys forget battlefield now has changing weathe patterns and times of day on some maps. This map during a raining day will look so amazing. Check the difference between the battlefield 1 maps when it's sunny verses when there's rain

Would have a metric fuck ton more issues with Battlefield's portrayal of ANY war than seeing a woman on the frontlines. Note, the core gameplay of World War 1 in BF1 was dictated specifically by machine gun warfare. Which completely misrepresents what the actual war was like. it's almost like these games aren't war simulators or some shit and that anyone who thinks they go for "authenticity" beyond lip service and hollywood style action movie cliches is being absurdly disingenuous or is an actual idiot who thinks WW2 movies genuinely represent what WW2 was like.

Give me all the colors, I'm tired of WWII games looking like war documentary films, they all look the same and they all look depressing and boring as fuck.

Love the art direction for this game.

If some of y'all are looking for an immersive WWII multiplayer game to play, you should look into Red Orchestra and Rising Storm. Good stuff.

After watching the trailer again, im still not sure what tone their going for right now. The robot arm just throws me off completely. Reading about gameplay tweaks, some sound like good ideas but i want to see them in actual gameplay. Not these staged reveal trailers. The bf1 reveal trailer was only slightly better then this one but that game turned out to be my favorite in the series.

I think people aren't angry about a woman being in a Battlefield game (hence BF1: Revolution), but more so the context and tone it's presented in. It's pretty over the top and zanny.

You sure about that?

https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2018/...mers-hate-it-spawning-notmybattlefield/59548/

This is an article from a nonsense "who gives a shit" site. But it was a top result when Googling "Battlefield 5" this afternoon.

Yes, there's a disabled woman fighting on the battlefield in World War II… and the verdict is still out on if she's a lesbian, but given today's politically distorted promotion of degeneracy and regressive policies, don't be surprised if she's a one-armed, disabled, lesbian.

It's not just YouTube that's giving DICE and Electronic Arts slack for turning the Battlefield franchise into a battleground for polemic feminist propaganda.

Don't be surprised if Battlefield V ends up tanking in sales and forcing DICE to either close a studio or put the brand on ice for a while.

Man, why are people in this thread so damn hostile. I get that those youtube comments make people upset but there's nothing like that in this thread.

You haven't looked on the first pages enough then. We've had a few bans already.

Right, so the visual depiction of a prostectic arm on a solider is aestheticly realistic and being able to run around a battlefield with your solider sporting said prostectic arm is one of those crazy gameplay quirks. No problem at all.

It depends. It's a presentation thing (as opposed to a gameplay thing, presumably), and I can see how it could be jarring or stand out as inauthentic. 'How on Earth would you reload' - that sort of thing. Previous Battlefield games (at least modern ones) have had an accurate presentation as a selling-point, so I don't think it's weird for some finds to find it jarring. It seems like a shift in direction, and a less restrictive adherence to authentic presentation to enable player customisation.

There have been two gritty and dark main BF games in a row so I'm hoping they really load this one up with color. When I think to the launch day maps for BF4 and BF1 all I can recall are grays, blacks and browns of various shades with some grass and foliage thrown in.

The trailer is just odd. It's over the top to the point of it being comical.

Players were expecting something more on the lines of this:

Luckily, jackfrags video explains it much better than the horrible livestream event and trailer. I've played BF since 1942, and all the changes sound great and an improvement for the series.

The trailer was just an odd choice. Like if this was a trailer for a reboot of lets say Battlefield Heroes or even Bad Company then the trailer would have been appropriate.

Gonna be fun spending the entire next decade telling people on this site that these aren't robotic arms and that real life didn't have a gritty filter turned on back in the 1940s.

First five pages, not a single ban. And yes, there were some bans but even those people weren't on youtube level, and even then, they were dealt with appropriately, so there's really no need to lead this discussion so antagonistic.

Shit is so annoying to read. You can be legitimately disappointed in bionic arm claws and other historical inaccuracies without being an alt right neo nazi.
But it's not historically inaccurate. It's just a prosthetic and this exact kind of prosthetic with metal claws have existed since the 19th century. Infact this is one thing that they are not taking any artistic liberty with.

Similarly women fought in WW2 as soldiers, yes they were Russians, French and Albanians instead of British but that is a bit of artistic liberty that they can afford to take. It's not inaccurate for women to fight as soldiers in a WW2 game, it's inaccurate if those women were British but then we are going into finer details regarding accuracy and BF does not ever concern itself with those kinds of finer accuracies. Take the prevalence of automatic weapons in BF1. They existed in the later years of WW1 and were sparse yet they are everywhere in BF1 and it's fine because they thought the gameplay needed it so they took an artistic license there. Similarly with woman they are taking an artistic liberty to make it more inclusive by disregarding finer accuracies while still considering the overall rough accuracy of female soldiers being present in WW2.

Seeing poc in Nazi uniforms, and even without swastikas they look like german uniforms, will probably still look weird to me.

The gameplay changes sound good, but we will have to see, how it works out.

I am also always astounded, that DICE puts all this together in just 2 years.

But this is the reveal trailer. It's only fair to compare it with the BF1 reveal trailer that was as wacky as this one. Why can't the other trailers or the opening mission have a darker tone?
I'm just commenting on what I know of both games. As I said I don't know if such missions will be in BFV, no one does. I'm pointing out what is absent in the trailer and I would've loved to have seen. But that's no what we got, so we're only speculating here. Apologies if I came of wrong, but I was trying to say that I want to see darker moments in BFV, not that I believed they were absent at all. Just this reveal trailer didn't show it.

Saving Private Ryan isn't WW2, get over it.

The woman looks so cool. All the characters look neat. Be who you want to be.

They somehow managed to make this game look more like Call of Duty than Black Ops 4's reveal did, and not in a good way.

You can still aim for historically accurate, even if not 100% realistic. I can guarantee you even Hollywood WW2 movies put a ton more work into historically accurate weapons, uniforms, setting etc.. even if the actions of the characters and story is unrealistic and dramatized for the sake of the movie.

In the same way, you could create a game with historically accurate weapons, settings, gear, uniforms but still allow for more action/arcade game play within that setting. I see nothing wrong asking for that.
