It's selling like hot cakes, has a great catalog so far, has big games coming out in May and June and... E3 is just around the corner. Like, yeah, it's been a dissapointing first half of the year, but we were coming off a mighty impressive second half of 2017, and we don't know anything beyond this E3.
Just hang on there a bit longer.

It's not a good first half for Nintendo 1st party but it's still very successful, it get's good 3rd party support compared to its predecessors, has really good indie games support, it still sells very well, its 2017 hits still sell very well and the second half will probably be very good.

No.

I had a deja vu reading this thread.

Nintendo Switch keeps selling a ton. If it isn't first place every month on America or EU doesn't mean it isn't a success (in Japan Nintendo Switch keeps the first place tho).

I don't think so, it's a success in its own right and Nintendo's put out a great Mario and a great Zelda with it. If the gauge for success was catching up to the PS4 and dominating the market like in the SNES days that was always a tall order, and unrealistic to expect that.

It 'll do aight, nothing crazy.
Ninty struggling to support it as usual without some solid 3rd party support. Went all in first year and it's starting to show.

JFC people so quick to discount any wins for Nintendo. And no there isn't a drought like the Wii U. Ports are still better than no games at all, which is roughly what the Wii U droughts were.
Also, who the heck played all the games from here on, I mean I work 9-5 and Part-Time for art and I'm so back logged. If game releases slow down it's okay with me, I don't mind. I know my tastes aren't everyone's but still so many games have come out.

It's the fastest selling console to date.
PS4 selling a bit more in the US with more games, SKUs, and better pricing doesn't mean Switch isn't a success.
If you're worried about the line up wait like 20 Days

When Smash and Pokemon come out later this year, revisit this topic and ask yourself that question again.

It's selling well today in spite of a software drought, and it has two collossus games to push holiday sales.

So, no, absolutely not.

It's May and Nintendo has published five to six titles, depending on the territory. June and July alone will see them publishing four to five more. We're already guaranteed to have Super Smash Bros., Fire Emblem and Yoshi on Switch before the year's out, and in three weeks Nintendo has an E3 conference focusing on 2018 games. They've delivered exactly as promised on the software front, and that's to say nothing of the ridiculous weekly barrage of indies and growing third-party support.

As for "sales have suffered," I don't...I...what?

Boy. No.

The thing has been selling like crazy, is home to both the best Zelda and the best Mario (imo), has a steady stream of excellent releases that I still have trouble keeping up with, and is some of the most lovable hardware I've ever used. I've been playing Nintendo consoles my whole life, and none of them have hit me quite like the Switch has. AND WE'RE STILL BARELY A YEAR IN.

Hell, I just spent the weekend pouring nearly 20 hours in Hyrule Warriors. Glad I skipped that ugly 3DS version.

As a Switch owner, it can feel that way sometimes, but the numbers show the install base just keeps growing and growing, and even though we haven't seen a flood of software, we're still getting a good amount. We still have holiday coming up and E3 with even more 2018 announcements, so while personally my Switch hasn't gotten much action lately, there is still plenty to come and already a decent amount out there that I haven't gotten to.

People were as quick to pass judgement that it was a success as you're passing judgement that it's not. Let's wait and see how about that especially when the holiday will bring Smash and maybe Pokemon.
Isn't 7 of the 10 top games in NPD switch games? Or are you just writing your own story?
7 are switch games?! if you mean april then there are only 4 and if you mean this year then only 1 and it's at 10 (MK8)
The Neon Nintendo Switch 32GB was the best-selling SKU for April in terms of units sold, according to NPD. It sold better than any PS4 SKU. What are you talking about?
That doesn't mean much when the PS4 sold almost double what the Switch sold.
are you really going to focus on this? four is impressive but I was talking about the 7 he mentioned.

Like objectively already, it sold more than the Wii U and outpaced the Xbox One's first year. That's success. Whether or not the success is long term enough to last many years is something we have to look at.

Library quality isn't a factor to that and even then it's still a bit early to question if it's a success or not.

It has been very successful thus far, even if the past few months have been pretty lean in terms of games.

Where is the narrative that the Switch had a drought even coming from? Nintendo's own pace of releases slowed down a bit (though even there, they had Bayonetta 2, Kirby: Star Allies, Labo, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and Hyrule Warriors), there were tons of third party releases, and a load of great digital games like Celeste.
It's a step down from 2017, but where does the "drought" thing even come from? Is it a meme I am missing?

As long as it has its exclusives it will be okay.

For example, personally I prefer playing games on my PS4, but of course I will play Nintendo's big exclusives when they release.

So far I've played Zelda, Mario, and Bayonetta 2. For the future, I'm planning to get Pokemon.
That is enough for me and keeps me interested in future releases.
A couple of good exclusive games per year is good enough to justify a purchase in my opinion.

That is all that matters for Nintendo and that is enough to sell consoles.

(That is also the reason why neither Sony nor Microsoft should worry about Nintendo.
The Switch is not competing to be the primary console for each household.
It shines as a complementary console for gamers.)

It has been alright. Octopath is coming next month so that should last me for a while until Pokemon or something.
I only buy it for exclusives anyway.
Only got 3 games on it, but that is fine since it isn't my primary console.
Honestly, people shouldn't expect Nintendo to be their primary console though, and their outlook wouldn't be so bad with lack of games and 3rd parties support.
Just roll with it until exclusive time.

The Switch has been out just over year and has a fantastic libary of games already. Looks to a very good second half of 2018 as well.

Not really sure where this topic is coming from

Switch has like 3-4 evergreen titles in most Top 10 worldwide and they are about to drop some really big titles this fall.
Well and obv. they shipped a ton of consoles already...so yeah....no.

I mean, in 20 days I imagine your point about everything we know simply being teases and logos will be wildly inaccurate, and really? we're complaining about companies waiting until it's closer to a games release date to announce stuff now? I thought that's what we wanted? They say they think they can sell 20M this fiscal year and that the games to do so are already in place, I think you should really have waited 20 days and actually see the line up they plan to hit 20M sales with before asking this question.

PS4 sold like a beast in April thanks to an incredible game, but Switch has sold a lot of units too, and the differences in units sold in febraury and march were like 50K consoles...not 200K or even 300K like WiiU.

It's not going to be a Wii phenomenon, but it will sell the second best home console in Nintendo's history, for sure.

And for god's sake, E3 is in less than 20 days!

I'm getting the impression this is more of a hidden "Is PS4 better than Switch?" thread than anything got to do with the Switch being successful, which it is.

Just.. wait till E3. The sales will see a similar spike as soon as this extremely dissapointing Pokemon game drops.
