We need to change any society that allows or forces people to live off their parents after they turn 20.

I'm living with my parents for two months while in-between apartments and we're all miserable (I'm 25). Luckily i'm out June 1st. Living with my parents into my 30s sounds like a nightmare.

It's not that rare. USA is the anomaly where kids can't wait to move out at 18.
However this man has had enough chances. Hope this push will help him land on his feet.

I'm 25 And ha ving to live with my parents to save for a house, so close to my goal.

I love my family, but oh my god as soon as I have the deposit/retainer for a house, I am out of the door so god damn fast.

20 year olds in the US have a mortgage or two of debt under their belts just from college. Moving out before 26 also means you need to get your own healthcare, which 20 year olds can't afford.

It takes 5-10 years for young adults to start getting out of the hole society put them into.

Lol unless people want to be renting until they're 50, this is an insanely narrow-minded view.

When you look at the cost of the average mortgage vs the average wage, it isn't hard to see why some of us are forced back. And I detest the stigma around it.

It took me a couple of reads, but that's what the latter part of his statement covers.

It'll also mean MORE homeless.
I guess so, but mainly it's people trying to get on their feet and buy a place instead of just renting.

My parents actually want me to stay longer, they don't think I have enough for a decent place, but I've done the math. In my own place before I'm 26.

Buying a house on your own not in crack den territory really sucks, financially.

O

Ah yeah, I see what you mean now.

That's what you get when the banks rule the roost, the housing market is completely left to skyrocket and the average wage is insufficient I guess

This is the UK I'm talking about but I guess the US is in a similar position.

Is he streaming an obsolete RPG with 2 concurrent viewers? That'd be my guess.

If anything, I would have to blame his parents.

They're the ones that allowed him to stay with them rent-free throughout the past 8 years. They're the ones that have failed to stay on top of him, & made sure that he had a job, etc. They're the ones who had enabled/pacified/babified him.

They're the main ones who are to blame.

Brooke Baldwin just interviewed him on CNN.

Very cringe-worthy.

Yeah, I just saw it.

Was ready to come in here and say "at least I'm not as bad as this guy" but then I see he has a kid, so as far as I'm concerned he's farther along in life :(

No, his severe, chronic depression is to "blame." His parents coddling him because of his struggles is enabling and is enabling is never the main source of anyone's actions or problems.

Meh, I'm 24 and I live at home, but currently I'm the main provider for me and for mum so no plans on leaving anytime soon.

But when I was unemployed and living rent free at home I felt awful. I tried to do a lot of chores since I felt guilty that I wasn't contributing in anything else. Really can't fathom how a 30 something old could justify just leeching off his parents like that. If I'm living with mom its to ensure that she lives well and has enough to enjoy the retirement she deserves!

A good chunk of our generation is pretty FUBAR when it comes to this. I'm pretty bad off myself, but at least I pay 600 bucks a month to live with my parents (and buy my own food, gas, insurance, etc.).

Soon as I can move into a better job, I'll be out the door, but in the mean time I'm paying up.

I don't want to stigmatize anyone for coping with their parents, but I just feel one would mature faster and gain more experiences when living on their own. Of course it's just my experience.

And like people said it makes financial sense in the US to live home which is why I would love to see changes made so people could afford to move out.

Mortgage/rent prices aren't exactly high in the Syracuse area - even with just a 5% down payment, you could find a 1200-1500sqft home, in a decent neighborhood, for less than $1000/mo. including property and school tax. This guy could have easily made a go of it on his own if he had been willing to put any real effort in.

I dropped out of high school and wanted to leech off my dad forever, but he put a stop to that quick and threatened to boot me out if I didn't get a job or go back to school. I'm not sure if he actually would've gone through with it, but suffice to say I shaped up rather quick, went back to school, and was able to move out on my own.

This guy's parents raised him to be a lazy leech and a bum, they have no sympathy from me. It's not even that he lives with his parents, I don't care about that, but everything about him just makes him sound like an insufferable person.

Anybody else hear the crew laugh when he says handling his court case for his child is a full time job?

Gee, I wonder why the mother has full custody.
Not only is this guy a privileged lowlife, he's the kind of divorced father who wants nothing more than to own his children without even thinking of how he would feed or clothe them.

He's the kind of guy who would hide letters from his kid's mom until the kid stops asking about her. Fuck him.

There are so many people in this thread blaming the parents, I can't even tell which one is Mr. Rotondo's account.
