So is literally about kneeling only? I can think of quite a few protests that can be done standing.

Nope, that's covered as well. If you do anything that the league considers inappropriate, the team (and said player) will be fined.

You know damn well anything more then standing with your hand over your heart will be considered inappropriate.

So if a player is frowning during the anthem it can get a fine? What a stupid set of rules.

And with that, I formally surrender my seat as commissioner of my 20-year FFL and am now done with this shitshow.

This is the fucked up part.

On a purely technical level, this just brings it in line with the NBA - but it's being done in such a shitty way with such a clear purpose. Football ratings are going down because it's a shit product, not because players (who are actual, live humans and not livestock) have opinions.

If I watched the NFL I'd quit.

I don't understand how staying in the locker room is any different from kneeling...

Quite shocked at this reaction seeing how the NBA forces their players to stand during the anthem and no one seems to bat an eye.

Was the NBA rule enforced to counter players protesting?

Different situation there.

Great, NFL. Killing protests is a great look for you. Remaining in the locker room for athletes protesting means zero visibility for the protest. I guess that's old rich dudes for you

This will literally segregate teams during the National Anthem.

You're going to have white players/coaches on the sidelines and black players/coaches in the locker rooms.

They better hope that fine is expensive cause a lot of these players got deep pockets and they'll keep doing it as a fuck you move

Oh and by the way

The league is actually still posting growth and absurd TV #'s given that TV viewing across the board is tanking.

That Tweet is the most backwards thing I've read on NFL ratings. You can't just compare it to the more precipitous decline of all other TV watching.

Down is down, and in this case "down" is about 10% as was widely reported in January. The year before, it was 8%. It may not be lost revenue for the league but it IS for the media that carry it. The trend is down, and this is probably the best way right now to at least curb it.

Don't kid yourself; that's why this is happening. Flyover America still watches TV, Flyover America loves the flag and hates anything remotely resembling disrespect toward it, and Flyover America will make or break football going forward.

Unless the fine includes taking draft picks away—and ESPECIALLY if revenue is up—I doubt a ton of owners will care and they'll eat the fine if players defy it. I also don't think it'll be a huge fine to begin with.

I could see NFLPA making this a CBA issue in 2021, but if that's what forces a lockout, I'd argue both sides have far worse issues to contend with.

That all said, between this and CTE, I'm glad my Eagles won before one or both of these matters accelerates football's decline.

That sums up my feelings almost perfectly. Well, i'm not positive about sports not being the place for political shit - players have always had opinions and I think that's important - but yeah, this isn't the league wanting to stay out of politics (Like, say the NBA), it's the league wanting to reinforce bad politics.

Garbage league with garbage management and fans. Hope it goes the way of Nascar but I don't think viewership will suffer because of this.

And then they get fined/suspended (the Player Union doesn't have the spine to do crap in that regard) from their team.

You know damn well that Jerry Jones and his ilk are going to mandate that their players be on the field for the anthem or face fines/suspensions.

Hated Goodell from the jump, just seemed like a weasel. Pure idiocy from the league office. Whatever, if you don't like the policy vote with your wallets. I won't be buying my usual subscriptions. I'll watch OTA and that's about it, they're slowly losing me which was almost impossible.

The 4th line is especially telling.

The NFL wants its players to stay in their lockerrooms if they choose not to stand BUT each team has the option of punishing said players. The NFL is creating this illusion of choice but won't protect its players for exercising the freedom to choose.

The NFL is trash, what else is new. The only thing they care about is money, fuck people's rights and health.

The NBA is lightyears ahead of them.

3/100 people in random polling said the protests are why they stopped watching.

The overwhelming two leaders for the decline were quality of play and length of play. The protests were barely even a blip, people don't REALLY care about that crap enough to stop watching if the product is good, but the product was crap.

Can I negative watch the NFL? I already don't watch it. But I want to not watch it even harder.

tbh, I'm glad they actually put out a policy. No more dancing around this. There are rules now and here they are. This only reaffirms my decision to stop watching last year.

Guess they should also stop having the popcorn, cotton candy, and beer guys to stop selling during the anthem. No using the bathroom or purchasing food during the anthem. Oh, and make sure those cameramen aren't kneeling during the anthem trying to get better shots.

But again, lets not worry about police brutality, nor think of the players as human beings with feelings. So now they'll be talking about how if players want to stay in the locker room, and others want to go out then they'll be problems with "team unity".

But continue to look the other way when star players beat the shit out of women, or commit crimes. Fuck the NFL, and those who agree with making people stand for an anthem. They'd better not ever say a fucking word about North Korea's ways ever again. They won't get another penny from me.
