I don't know what it is about Japanese made things but the quality on them always seems really bad and corny. Everything from make up to special effects. Even the screen text looks bad.

Mob Psycho is top 5 anime for me. I'm not sure I can pretend to like this show so far. I'll keep watching for now to see if it gets better.

Edit: Not really feeling the actor who plays Mob either. He just doesn't physically fit the bill for Mob. He looks like a normal healthy teen whereas Mob is kind of small, meek and weak.

Tome from the telepathy club seems to be a standout so far. She's pretty great. Cute too. (she's 22)

The fight with Dimple is a special effects mess with super sayian gelled hair

Edit: It's almost like those nightmare youtube videos filled with the Hulk and Joker running around a field together.

The anime is a narrative mess? I disagree

In that it's a gag manga for laughs so it follows jokes more then plot. It's not a negative necessarily but offput me as I really did enjoy the premise and world, and wanted more of a plot in general but it is what it is. I loved One Punch Man, which I felt was more cohesive in that manner, if that helps explain at all.

Mob Psycho has jokes but I didn't think it took away from the plot. I really liked the characters quirks. Reigan, Bodybuilding club, Tome trying to be stereotypical anime girl was all solid material to me.

I was thinking about giving this a shot, couldn't really get into the anime though.

Special effects on most TV series are bad, wherever they come from. As someone who watched Lost and Once Upon a Time I highly doubt it's worse than those.

oh it's definitely up there. Shows like The Flash, Stranger Things, Legends of Tomorrow do special effects ok for a TV show.

Give the anime another shot. It's great.

Edit; the actors for the body building club are good but they're not muscular. idk

I really like the ending song though.

And they got the right actor for Hanazawa. Hanazawa and Tome are great in this adaptation.

I watch alot of Toku and dramas based on Manga. Yeah you should never get your hopes up and enjoy it for what they are instead of what they could be

I love the anime, so I'm gonna skip this.

Japanese live-action stuff is generally terrible imo. There's exceptions, but most modern mainstream stuff is just... yeah. (Although, stuff like tokusatsu is fun because the cheesiness is part of the appeal.)

people need to stop complaining about Japanese shows "not feeling right" or "always looks bad"
really comes off like telling people of color that they don't look right cosplaying a certain character

Tome is great, she is played by the actress who was the pink ranger in ninninger

shut up. no one said anything anything like that. don't try and make an effects issue and casting issue into a racial issue

I didn't realize things like skinny people being part of the bodybuilding club, screen text looking cheap and the main character not looking small enough was a "people of color" issue. jfc.

Mob Psycho isn't a gag manga. I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you loved OPM more because it is a gag manga and that's what you were expecting

I don't know if you've only watched the show vs reading the manga but the narrative of Mob Psycho is incredibly strong. It's hinted at during the first season but the emotional throughline for Mob is really well executed. Compared to One's other works Mob Psycho is still very funny but is much more earnest and character/plot driven.

I only watched show, yeah. It's dramatic moments seemed to be comedic scenes done seriously. I dunno, maybe I need a re-watch, cause people are telling me I'm dead wrong.

I did mention Manga when I should of mentioned Anime

If you've only watched the first season your take is pretty accurate. Its not until the next full arc that the story takes a real dramatic turn.

If we're talking about live action, I think it comes down to much smaller budgets and a few other factors. I wish I could find a source on it but it was from at least 10 years ago where someone working in the industry mentioned that when it comes to lighting and certain technical details, the Japanese film industry isn't as.... "mature" I guess is the word I'd use. Maybe that was anecdotal though and again, that was from a long time ago. But again, I'd bet a lot of it comes down to budget.

The girl who plays the Scar fighter is super sexy too. Wonder why she's wearing a US Army jacket though.

The end with Reigen is ruined because of how much material and the amount of characters that have been cut.

What's with these adaptations and shitty blonde wigs?

Honestly, wigs in general seem to be hard for big productions. it's actually amazing how often cosplayers are doing this better in some ways.

EDIT: Also this thread completely lacks any visuals, so I'ma try to fix that since I didn't know this was a thing either

Yep...that's an anime live action alright... They found a good look for Shigeo's helmet hair

Watched the first episode. Better than I expected and the budget is surprisingly present. Script and cast seem pretty faithful to the original although I'm not really sold on Reigen yet. He looks too dorky and doesn't exude the un-earned confidence of the character. Still, a decent first episode.

Reigen is great. It's the same actor as the mentor in Hibana: Spark, definitely does the character justice. Stick with it.

I saw the short Netflix auto preview. Why in these adaptations is every so fucking old? Reigan looks old af. Mob and everyone else look like HS students. I watched Erased and they had excellent child actors

Idk but the age is the least of its problems. Mob has a good actor behind him but like I said, he doesn't physically fit the bill. Same thing with the bodybuilding club. They're all funny and good actors but they look like regular dudes. Athletic doesn't come to mind when describing them. Tome is great. Hanazawa is great. Reigen is pretty good. I like Tsubome's character in this.

If it had a higher budget it would be great. Right now I feel like it's Volcano High but with cheaper effects.
