As a policy update, we'd like to clarify a moderation stance on people who police a minority on reclamation of the n-word. This also applies to comments that everyone should be able to use the n-word as well. To be clear, these kind of comments are unacceptable. Going forward, such comments will be actioned appropriately. Please report such posts that violate the above policy.

We're rebooting this thread to try again with this policy clearly stated. If you have questions or concerns, please PM a mod captain, Hecht or Selina, directly. Thanks.
Kendrick inviting people up onto the stage to sing along with him is a normal occurrence - regardless of the race of the person. This itself was not out of the norm. What was out of the norm was the person he invited onto the stage saying the n-word as a white person. That is and was abnormal. Posts that push the blame onto Kendrick will be actioned appropriately.

Oh dear....

The incident happened during a performance of the rapper's track "M.A.A.D City"

Rapper Kendrick Lamar called out a white fan he invited onstage with him for using the n-word.

Lamar - who was performing his hit "M.A.A.D City" at Hangout Festival on Sunday night - invited a white, female fan named Delaney onto the stage with him, but was forced to interrupt her after she repeatedly used the n-word during the track.

During the Alabama festival, the Compton rapper stopped the music when he heard the fan rap the racial slur multiple times.

Lamar proceeded to say "you got to bleep one single word, though," referring to the fan's use of the n-word.

The fan replied saying it was an absentminded mistake: "Oh, I'm sorry. Did I do it? I'm so sorry… I'm used to singing it like you wrote it."

She's lucky she isn't in the UK as she would probably end up doing jail time for inciting hatred/hate speech.

Didn't he say earlier that anyone could use that word. I feel like he baited that lady into it and then ripped on her.

Getting boo'd at a show by the crowd basically shuts everything down, saw thugger get his ass boo'd by the crowd a few years back and it screeched to a halt. It was pretty wild.

Full video he trys to let her keep rolling so w/e gotta just keep the vibe going.

Just don't say it if you aren't black. It's not hard not being able to say one incredibly ugly and offensive word.

lets get this out of the way now, this is not a publicity stunt, Kendrick pulls people on stage for his popular songs pretty frequently:

there are dozens of similar videos on YouTube throughout his career of him doing this. Calling this a stunt is just a shitty deflection.

I never knew people had an ungodly need to sing every lyric to every song they listen to.

This is very important to white rap fans. The utmost importance

The video kind of paints a different story, it seems like the crowd turned on her first and he did his best to defuse the situation.

Incredibly bold that she would say the word:

1. On a stage
2. Into a microphone
3. In front of thousands of people
4. In front of a Black man

You don't say anything. It's simple. As a kid, I'd blank out all curse words as I'd rap along. Guess what, I can still do it. It must be magic.

She shouldn't have said it, and he shouldn't have invited some drunk white girl on stage to sing a song with him that uses the word 28 times.

I think your options are don't say the word, or ask the artist their permission and accept their decision.

How hard is for non black people to not say the n word???

Not very hard.

I think a more interesting question is "How hard it is to be a rap fan and not sing the word?". Because I think if anything can be discussed in the light of the mod post it's that. Is Kendrick writing that song thinking of white fans? Is it intellectually honest to assume this music and these lyrics are for "everybody"? Is a "white fan" an unwelcome guest of sort, basically wanted for his money but not really part of the moment?

Because other than that no, there's really nothing to discuss. White people should not say the N word. So what does that mean for Rap music and black artists who accept white people as fans?

How about pausing because those lines still rhyme even without the n-word, in case another dumbshit wanna dredge up that excuse.
