Seems reasonable. Called it out, let her keep rapping if she changed her behavior.

If she apologised and recognizes why she shouldn't say it then I don't understand why this should be a big deal

I agree with Kendrick. If you want to rap along and you are not black, DON'T say the N-word. You skip over it.

Props to Kendrick for his reaction and how he handled it. He educated and explained to the lady what to do.

I mean, that specific song does feature the word quite a lot, it's not like she added the words. I doubt she would end up being accused for inciting hate speech just for singing words in a song.

Still not a very smart thing to do when you're in the spotlights at a major festival of course.

Kendrick's brilliant but I can't say I side with him here if he specifically invited this white fan to sing this particular song which repeatedly uses the word. Pretty embarrassing for her and he just shouldn't have invited her up in the first place

He did it right and she did it right. Apologize cause you fucked up, learn and keep it moving.

I think the best way to avoid this would be for everyone, black people included, to stop using that word, especially in music.

Because yeah, when you sing along to a song you like, you don't always think about the lyrics and just say them in rythm. So the issue will happen over and over again.

Yeah, I think we should probably put responsibility on black people to keep us from using racially charged words. It's their fault!

Issue was resolved in a peaceful manner but if he doesn't want certain people using a certain word he should just not put it into the song period.

Looks like it was probably all set up. Just saw this at the top of Reddit's /r/Music:

Why invite her up to rap that song then? If it's a lyric in the song then she probably assumed she was expected to rap along with him and say it. It's hard not to feel like she was baited. And if so that's not right.

It may be but rando people getting mad and calling it a set up doesnt make it one. Also, the Daily Mail is banned for being bad at their jobs.

Nah. Black people have earned the right to use that word any way they want, especially in their music.
But probably easier to have no-one able to say a word if white people can't say it /s

It baffles me how she said it on his stage.

More than for her, it was a lesson for Kendrick, do pull that again.

Not everyone that listen to your music is listening to you.

Nah, we good. Just don't say it if you're not black.

Of course. But kids, of any color, will repeat over and over again what they hear. If they are used to ear that word all the time by artists they like, they will use it. Wether they know what it means or not. And it can be hard to lose this kind of habit once you grow older.

So if nobody was using it, the risk would be smaller. I guess it would lose the strength of it's meaning over time but... I don't know.

I still think it would be better if artists restrained themselves on using that word in their songs. That is all.

It's really very easy to not use that word. And lol at the "but he tricked her!" sentiment. Maybe he didn't want to assume that a random white fan is a piece of shit.

Edit: If you are offended by "piece of shit," insert whatever word you want for white people that use the n word. If this caused her to stop using it, then she is no longer <insert term>. It's that simple.

Edit:
"It's a publicity setup!" "He baited her!" "Well if they don't want her to say it then don't use it yourself"

Ask yourself why you aren't saying that white people just shouldn't say it.

You got a lot of responses to this post already but I want you to know that even if rappers stopped using the word in their music white people will continue to say the word anyway. The word existed and was used long before rap music became popular and mainstream and it will be continued to be used afterwards

Or kids can be educated about history.

How anyone can agree with kendrick is ridiculous. He was the only one being racist. They're lyrics from the song.

If the lyric had the word there, well, I don't believe she's in the wrong. If someone told me to sing a song the song would be verbatim to what I'm told to sing.

I understand the implication of course but from an artistic view this means any white person is frowned upon for covering it?

Here's one from 3 years ago (fast-forward to 3:00) where a girl does the exact same thing and the song continues without interruption.

If the new thing is legit, then he probably had a big change of heart sometime recently. He seems to bring fans on-stage to sing along quite often.

It's why I don't go to hip hop concerts anymore. Too many non black people act like the price to say the n word is $70
