I'm so bummed that once you get your most badass equipment there's not much left to do. I geared up only to have ravens left to find. Spam them sockets with running speed enchantments yay! I need NG+ :(
One of the few times I would actually run through the story again...I beat the Queen and I just have the challenges left sigh...

Oh, really? Cool then. I'll be on the lookout for that during my second playthrough. Actually, yeah, I'll probably record all (if I can) of Mimir's stories. Been doing so for Kratos' cause I really liked some of them, such as the horse and scorn pole ones.

I think what you're referring to with Atreus hinting about it is when he said Giants can come in regular human-size and that they aren't necessarily gigantic? I don't recall him hinting about shapeshifting otherwise...

It's mostly in the context of a question, when he asks if he can turn into a wolf (when he finds out he's half-god, pre half-giant discovery), which is a clever foreshadow of him being Loki (who can shapeshift into any living being). So, I think it's fair to assume that Loki isn't the only Jotun with this ability, but how they change the mythology to fit the game likely matters more than classical mythology in this context. Admittedly I'm no Norse Mythology expert, I just have some passing knowledge.

Probably the last gif for God of War I'll post here in this thread, unless people want more. I've not got much else to do in-game now.
Amazing, Axe is still my favorite weapon.

I still wonder if the norse gods can make themselves big like the greek ones. Well I would think Baldur would have tried it if he could. I think Kratos got his immortality from absorbing Hades, that's when he became immune to the river styx and could use the gates that only gods could use. Why he can't become big anymore, who knows.

Well I've finally decided I'm going to progress the story to the point I can start using the Chaos Blades again, don't think I've used them since I first finished the game over a month ago, was playing and capturing all my stuff from before that point mainly because I post everything here and on twitter so it was to avoid spoilers, but I decided I couldn't wait any longer. Oh, that's what you're referring to. I was thinking of that too, although I didn't make the connection that that's a hint that God of War Jötnar can shapeshift. Good point. It could just be a Loki thing, though, since if I recall correctly, he was particularly adept at shapeshifting even among his kind.

On the topic of Norse mythology's Giants, it's cool to think how many abilities their kind has. They've got shapeshifting, prophecy and foresight, and illusion-making. That's only from the stories I've read too, so for all I know they've done other things too. The gods obviously have more incredible powers, but there's something about it coming from a completely different, non-divine race.

I will ask again...

Freya gave the mark to Kratos and Atreus to protect them being found by the gods.

If true how was Modi still able to find them in Tyr's temple?

And will it play a role that Atreus hasn't lost his one?

(forgot to reply, haha, my bad)

It's kinda sad once you realize there's not much else to do, huh? I dived right back in for a second playthrough once Photo Mode dropped, but I can imagine how much time it takes to come up with ideas for shots and executing them... It sure would be cool if we got an arena mode we could easily play through again and again for things like this. But turbobutts (damn, that username) is right. You deserve a break!

Yup. It's very sad. Always get that gut-wrenching feeling of completing games I love, even on replays. The following days are just depressing lol. I'm waiting for a NG+ to make a lot more.

Kratos realized at the end of GOW3 that he is immortal and cursed to roam the earth all the time for him to not get crazy, he needed to change.
Like I said before, his immortality is less flawed than Baldur, the latter can heal himself without a hurdle and nothing can hurt him except mistletoe while Kratos on the otehr hand can be hurt by anything and his healing exhaits him, but nothing literally can kill him.
It seems this is part of the power in his Spartan Rage godly power. That state insta heals him.

The game's writers referred to it as Kratos willing himself to heal, so I guess that's a new ability he has now. It's really cool and I was surprised when I saw it happen in a cutscene.

Spartan rage makes sense. in gameplay he does recover health when in spartan rage.

If a writer really said he just willed himself to heal... That's not a satisfying answer for me. You'd think that would come into play in regular gameplay or something.

Exactly.
Not all the Jotnar are dead. In fact Loki has to find his future wife who is a Jotun and Harinthur the son of Thamur is still roaming. Start watching from here: https://youtu.be/c9PJ-nw138w?t=35m25s

Atreus said what if those statues are those who got out of Midgard alive? Keep in mind that the giants constitued the Midgard army of Tyr. Someone in reddit is speculating that the giants are hibernating in Jotunheim since they can't survive in Jotunheim anymore with scarce resources, waiting for the right moment to go back to Midgard after the intervention of the coming of the worthy god to help them.

That one can't even beat Hulk, let alone an army of Jotnar.
In the video that you posted there's some talk about the guardian returning. Is the guardian Atreus? Kratos or Tyr?

I feel the same once I'm done with a game, yeah I can go back into a game like Bloodborne or Horizon and just mess around with the combat as it's so good but it's not the same as that first 2-3 months I spend with a game just going through everything. One good thing this about this gen though, since last year at least, is that there's been a ton of amazing, top tier games released and still more to come this and next year, nostalgia aside it's probably my favorite gen ever in terms of game releases.

That empty feeling is a sign of having gone through an amazing, memorable experience. It sucks, but it's also good in a way.

I think New Game Plus is gonna take a while because there have been a fair amount of criticism on the difficulty, so maybe they're going to rebalance some things on top of the usual amount of work designing a NG+ feature would require. It's coming, though, so at least we just have to wait.

I actually really like the idea of him simply willing himself to heal. Baldur was able to do it, so it feels like a natural thing to gods. It would have cheapened the difficulty to have that ability given to the players, so I think having it be used in that key story moment instead was a great implementation of it. It shows just how intense and draining the battle with Baldur was, and how long it's been since Kratos had fought on that level.

Faye is the Guardian of Jötunheim, that's why she stayed behind in Midgard. Also the reason behind your shield's name: "Guardian Shield."

Thank you! That means quite a lot coming from the master himself. I want to personally thank you for the help you gave me when I started a month or so ago. I'm still learning but experimentation is so fun to do on these. It hasn't really detracted from my enjoyment of games at all, which is something I was expecting to happen. It has in fact made me play even more and appreciate how great games look today.

This generation has certainly been my favourite, without a doubt. Last generation had its fair share of great titles, but none have matched any release this generation. My greatest experiences have boiled to down to such simplistic things, whether that be just walking across the map in Horizon for every objective, killing the Cleric Beast the first time in Bloodborne, or slaying the Dragon in God of War, or even the Ladies of the Woods from the Witcher 3. So many memorable moments from this gen, and I can see Sony and its studios continuing to improve. They've been on an absolute streak, and as you said we've still got so many (what look to be) great games coming this year and the next.

I STILL NEED TO BEAT BLOODBORNE. Finally killed Orphan of Kos the other night. :P

Horizon did it, Witcher did it, Kingdom Hearts did it again. A lot of games have been memorable this gen, even the thriller of Alien Isolation (such an underrated gem). I do think it's a good feeling to have, I just don't want it to end. :P

Definitely. Horizon's took a couple months to do, and I expect it's no easy task to do. Heck, TW3 took over a year if I recall correctly.

You got it a little wrong, man. An eight-legged horse is born when a trickster god is forced to distract a mighty horse by tempting it with the form of a female horse.

Oh, I know the whole thing, I just added "and sometimes" because I didn't feel like explaining the whole process all over gain since I did so a while ago here. ;P

Oh man, I totally forgot that Witcher 3 didn't have it from the get-go. The game's just so massive that I've forgotten how many times I've played it again and the details of those playthroughs. Man, that's crazy. I sure hope God of War won't take that long.

I'm in total agreement, though. God of War is just the latest in a long list of amazing, unforgettable current-gen games. I didn't get to play much new games last year (and I feel like that'll continue this year too, sadly) but it was three big hits for me, one after another: Horizon, then Persona 5, then NieR. It sucked so much to finish those games, but I also genuinely felt so happy at the end of it because of what I'd gone through. You don't always get that, no matter how fun the game may have been. The years before, I enjoyed FFXV, Dishonored 2, The Phantom Pain, etc. but they weren't good enough experiences to have made me feel that way. So to have been able to start my gaming year with God of War has just been absolutely wonderful.

Aha, my bad then. I guess I just wanted to point it out because the story of Sleipnir's birth always cracks me up. I remember reading it the first time and just laughing at Loki the whole damn time.

He has a belt over another belt. the top one looks kinda special. Some rings are dangling from it. Dunno what they are. No apparent gloves, just hand wrappings.

Things could change in the final design of the next game especially if they use this design a vision and not close to the real one. Even Thor could different in the next game.[/QUOTE]

in norse mythology, thor's belt gives him strength when he pulls it, it was a gift from the dwarf, eitri and brokk

Yeah, Loki is such a hilariously unfortunate character, it's not that he's a bad person since most of the norse gods are massive dicks with Odin being the biggest, Loki just can't help himself tricking people and causing problems only to get the short end of it at the end or having to fix it himself.

Right? I was surprised to find him not nearly as... evil, as he's been portrayed elsewhere. For the most part, he really is just mischevious and willingly helps the Aesirs to make up for his pranks and whatnot. That's not to say he's not wrong, of course, cause he's still a bad guy, but just one that's not that bad.

Thor mainly just wants to murder giants for whatever reason and Odin is just the absolute worst in every way. Balder was completely different in the books than he is in the game which surprised me, he's supposed to be the most handsome and non threatening character, killed by Loki by tricking Balder's blind brother in shooting him with a mistletoe arrow which partially got adapted.

Tell me about it. I haven't even started my New Game Plus run on Horizon, nor bought Frozen Wilds! I was supposed to, but my copy was R3 and my primary account is R1 and it's a whole thing, bleurgh. Then there's all the upcoming stuff and PS+ titles that I can't get to yet because God of War's still keeping me occupied. Tsk.

Was Odin really that bad? I don't seem to recall much stories of him being so bad. Thor too. I mean, he was bad. I'll never not dislike him for kicking that dwarf into the pyre at Baldur's funeral, but he would work together with Giants sometimes. He hated Giants, but not nearly as much as God of War's Thor, if I remember it correctly.

The Stranger turning out to be Baldur baffled me so much exactly because of that! He didn't look beautiful or graceful or anything like I pictured him. The only thing that put them together was the invulnerability, and had I known then that he was the god of light, his light attacks and speed too. It's such a smart design given what they twisted his story into, though, having Baldur look so broken and probably trying to have as little clothes on as possible in what may be an attempt to feel anything. There's also the tattoos that tell his life story, most of which were hateful, I believe. Really great stuff.

I'm paraphrasing here but:

- He tricked a couple of slave giants in to killing each other, they posed no threat and it was just for his amusement.
- He disguised himself, pretended to fall in love with a giantess, had sex with her, used and persuaded her just to get the legendary mead she was guardaging with her life.

Odin is also willing to do anything if it means him getting more control and the power to gain more knowledge.

Im not gonna lie, not having a trophy for beating that was kinda dissatisfying. It was amazingly hard, but a digital reward would have been really cool. But I also don't want to get into the way or folks getting a Plat, so I'm kinda torn on it.

It is no doubt the hardest thing in the game. Like whoa. I think I used the talisman to get your health back and improves your defense. I kept getting her to 1\4 but could never manage until I just watched a video and use AOE axe skills instead of the one that increases your regular swings.

Still took me like 4-5 hours lol

Yeah the game is too easy by the very end. I beat Sigrun in 4 tries granted I'm a high level 8.

No chance for DLC or challenge rooms or something.

Just need a few more crows and two more tears to open in nifleheim and I got the Platinum.

Just two Valkyries left for me now! Couple more trials and the Muslphababa one is mine. I actually dropped to easy difficulty for Niflheim and the Muslphapama trials to save myself the frustration, but have beaten all the Valkyries on Hard. Beating them in GMGOW is going to be mad!

Side note, is there any way you can tell which Odin crows you have left to find?

Yes, bring up the map, it says ravens per realm and zones (if you browse over the midgard realm).

I love the father son dynamic and how they progress as characters. Also, that tag team fight against had me all giddy lol.

I'm super eager to see what part 2 (or 5?) takes the series. Hopefully it's not a long wait.

The Infinity Gauntlet (Shattered Gauntlet of the Ages) is bad ass once you get three soul stones (specific enhancements) in it. Shit just wrecks. Was quite handy in the kill 100 enemies challenge. Atreus lightning arrows + run and R2 frost power slam + both weapon rune specials + shattered gauntlet = complete and utter devastation. Feel insanely powerful.

At first I was miffed the shattered gauntlets were such a low level, but when you have three additional sockets which are filled with high level exotic enhancements, the thing levels you up far more than most.

I actually hate that the Gauntlet is the only talisman with 3 enhancement slots. I feel like it makes it basically mandatory for end game stuff because it buffs your level so much.

Like I want to use some of the other Talismans with cool effects but the hit to the stats just isn't worth it. I wish some of the other high level talismans had at least 2 enhancement slots to make them more viable.

There's one other with 3 enhancement slots. I believe it's called Aeigers Protection or something. It creates a protective bubble which if you stay inside prevents your attacks from being interrupted and restores your health too.

There's also this other high level exotic one I just got where I can slow down time on activation. It goes up to level 8 and has very good stat additions, so it makes a great option even if it doesn't have enhancement slots.

I have both of those, I didn't think the protection one had any enhancement slots? I'll have to go check that when I get home

The realm shift one is awesome but even maxed out I lose a ton of stats dropping to that one from the Gauntlet.

You have to upgrade it to get up to 3 slots.

Also, are you using the exotic higher level realm shift enhancement? I don't notice too much of a drop off in stats with that one, though it does drop your level a fair bit (which afaik doesn't actually affect your stats). Fully upgraded it offers 12 strength, 17 defence and 20 cooldown.

I'm embarrassed to even post this. Annoying witch didn't wanna die at all so I tried to force her into the trap. Not only did she still manage to get away, but it completely backfired on me and the ogre just walked off.

Failing was part of the fun for me, though I'll admit there were times that made me wanna go into real life spartan rage because she killed me in a totally godlike BS way lol. And then the final time, she only managed to hit me once. Progress is cool.

Hmm, the talisman that gives back health does seem useful in that at least it can help keep you alive a little while longer but it gives back such little health I couldn't imagine using it over Talisman of the Realms. I don't remember if it could be upgraded though. I'll probably try it since I have the fight on a separate save file.

I see a lot of people hated the Niflheim grind but I kind of...liked it? Like I really enjoyed it when I got the layout down and could make "perfect" runs on challenge difficulty, it had that same thrill of repetition and grind I found in RPGs of old, especially MMOs and whatnot. It also helped that there was a sense of "purpose" to the grind, that I needed to do it for the best gear so I can better my chances against Sigrun.

So this guy beat Sigrun on GMGOW, at Level 1....without taking any damage.

I see that he has a video where he tried for well over 5 hours straight to beat her until he finally got her lol.

No damage is the only way to go against Sigrun on GMGOW. My final attempt on GMGOW, I only got touched once the whole fight but she took like 70% of my health with that one hit.
