People who finished season 2, does it feel like the writers......

chickened out with the school shooting, due to the increase of school shootings?

IMO, the increase of school shootings (in real life) should warrant them moving forward with actually having one in the show.

So regarding Zach. On the "Beyond the Reasons" after show one of the writers confirmed that

they hadn't outlined the secret relationship prior to S2.

I wonder if they wrote it in to give Zach a bigger role so that he would stay on instead of picking Riverdale? hah

Lotta people seem bothered by the revelation and consider it a "retconn". I might need to rewatch S1 but I think the one thing it does slightly diminish is Hannah's freakout at Jessica's party in S1? But I didn't think they did too bad a job of shoe-horning it in all things considered.

I think the best thing that I find about this season is how everyone is united this season and friends against Bryce. Except for Tyler, that dude is gone and fucked beyond measures.

Also Clay is totally in advanced stages of schizophrenia.

Erm what the fuck? What a stupid payoff! After all that drama and shit the school gets off and Bryce gets 3 months probation. Talk about disappointment. Also jury system is a shit system.

I'm angry that they went with the troubled kid but otherwise alright, atleast in his mind, angle with Bryce.

Edit: Ok THAT scene in 13th episode just came out of nowhere and felt like total shock value stuff and random. Why would Monty even do that thing and call him a faggot? There was no hint of him ever being gay, if he was just beating him up then that'd make it seem less random.

And Justin relapsing at the end was just another disappointment. He had the best arc in the season and it seemed he was finally going to be happy with a family. It'd have been good had he stopped after he saw his image if his child self.

Oh Anthony Rapp is in this, that's cool considering Wilson Cruz who plays his boyfriend in Star Trek plays a major role here as Olivia's lawyer.

I am not done with season 2 yet but I feel like this show is getting too heavy. They are trying to deal with so many heavy subjects:

Bullying
Sexual abuse
Drugs
Mental illness

And I am sure another big one is coming
school shooting

Not the punk tracks these young lads are listening to. Maybe they will segueway into actual emo later on in the season, I am not that far in.

i'm just going by an extremely loose definition that might be used by people who make fun of people who listen to punk as "emo" (like the jocks on this show) even though it might not be accurate.

Clay: Well maybe my head is still scrambled from you trying to jerk me in front of my parents!!!

Skye: Well I'm SORRY for being fucking SPONTANEOUS!

This show man. Oh my god. xD
I can't wait for season 3 where there's mysterious bad poetry showing up in student's lockers.

Surprised no one has noticed him talking to himself...

I am still of the mind that it's all in his head, which is why no on really noticed him talking to himself. I think there are a few exceptions with Justin and Tyler walking in on him and asking if everythings OK, but neither really acknowledges him as talking so much as just spaced the fuck out because he's having an inner monologue with himself in the manifestation of hannah.

But at the same time, it could be incredibly stupid directing too considering he's talking louder in his bedroom than his parents were doing when they were yelling at each other.

Finished watching season 2 and here are my thoughts:
Ghost Hannah was annoying at times and I felt like it was unnecessary too. I didn't like the Zach/Hannah thing either.
Alex, Justin and Tyler have interesting story arcs and I want to see more of them in season 3. Some development on Tony too. They should move on from Hannah though. Tyler's scene in the final episode was really, really hard to watch. If you are easily disturbed by violence, do not watch this episode.

Sadly Bryce gets away. I had the suspicion that his mom stole the polaroids to see what he had done and maybe turn against his son after he was such an asshole to her. I guess I was wrong. They make a big deal about Bryce's parents and then you don't hear anything from them...

I'd watch season 3 because the most interesting parts about season 2 weren't about Hannah actually.

I feel like for S3 they can expand on what happens when the cops show up and probably Clay getting arrested, the possible abortion with Chloe, and the Justin, Jess and Alex love triangle.

The Zach Hannah thing just makes her and Clay less special like it was in S1. It takes away from it completely, Especially listening to Clay's tape. She and Zach could have been close friends and that would have been okay.

The retcons in this season were too much but I still enjoyed it.

I loved Justin's arc so much and hated what they did to him in the last episode. It's like they must ruin something good for the characters.

Can some one please tell me why Bruce has any care if the school wins that court case and also why the courts would allow the entire rape sideshow. The case is regarding the lack of regard the school showed fo Hannah to prevent her death. Establishing a behavior for Bryce made absolutely zero sense to prove that case. Bryce had no reason to show up their later on to care on the verdict. The case was frankly open and shut after the counselor said their protocols were not strong enough.

There also was a very weird Tony dynamic played up all season regarding the court. And, there would be massive amounts of backlash and stricken court proceeding in regards to all the tampering with evidence in regards to the mother going to people and asking them to testify certain ways and so on. So much of the season did not make sense

I hated episode 1-5. It got decent in the middle of the season. Then it fell flat again towards the end. I don't understand how this season got made in retrospect.

The season came out the same day of the Texas shooting.

Wow... I'm on episode 12 of season 2 now and this show is disgusting and bad. This has gone beyond the point of raising awareness and creating something so ridiculous it's just bad. Not because it's irresponsible (which it is) but it's just bad. I'll talk more about it here when I wrap this up.

I thought season one handled it all the right way and pushed everyone to uncomfortable places but it needed to. This just said "hey let's keep going but screw actually being thoughtful about this and doing things for a reason, let's just create the most absurdly over the top soap opera ever."

The only reason I'm continuing to watch is because I'm waiting for the pay off of this whole arc they've been setting up since last season and I want to see if they will actually follow through with it. It's honestly kind of gross that it feels like they're stringing us all along with the idea of a disturbing finale but whatever, Netflix had to find a way to turn something with good intentions into a cash cow.

It's actually incredible how ridiculously poor the execution of this show is on its themes. As the season progresses I shouldn't grow to dislike the characters who have gone through this stuff. But I hate them, I hate them all. Zach is probably the most human character in the whole show, everyone else just acts like cartoon characters with their dialogue setting set to TV-MA. I keep wanting to like Justin, honestly he's the only character you really want to root for, it's frustrating how hard it is to give a shit about Jessica and Alex when they feel like they're the characters the show wants me to hope succeed.. Also it's ridiculous how horrible every adult is portrayed, they're either dumb and oblivious, overbearing and concerned about something that puts the kids problems in the backseat, or just outright horrible human beings.

Can't hitch my trailer to the hate train. Just finished and I really enjoyed it. Not as strong as season 1 but it was hard to live up to that. With them finding closure with Hannah, it will be odd to not see her around in the next season.

Is there anything else you felt was enjoyable? I just thought it was reckless both in how it handles its themes in a moral sense but also how it is written and executed for something that can be watched as entertainment.

Finished episode 10. Shit keeps getting crazier.

It looks like Tyler will do something drastic after the reaction of his parents taking his cameras away. I knew the photo was of Hannah as soon as Clay moved it to the side. Finally know who gave Clay the photos. I'm assuming the same people who jumped Clay were the ones who tried to run him off the road and probably the ones that vandalized and destroyed the Baker's pharmacy.

Looking forward to watching the remaining episodes to see how it all plays out.

It's painfully obvious they just had to have Katherine Langford in no matter what. Literally everything she does in season 2 is unnecessary and even contrived at times.

I didn't have a problem with the morality of the themes. The main issue that spawns from it is, yeah this show is tackling multiple heavy themes at once and it becomes difficult to strike a balance towards the end.

Tyler's rape scene just about made me sick to my stomach but can't agree it came out of nowhere. Monty is deplorable with no redeeming qualities. It was expected someone from that group would retaliate. He has nothing at all to lose now that the baseball season is over. He was biding his time waiting for Tyler to return. What Bryce said to him set him off and he went way over the cliff.

As far as the shooting I thought Tyler was going to just single out Bryce and Monty, not unload on the entire auditorium, until I saw the assault rifle. Not sure where they go from there with the cliffhanger but that was alot to digest. Not sure how I feel about it yet.

Jessica's journey throughout the season was sad, but it again it put into perspective what women go through mentally after a rape. Everyone faces it in their own way, like Nina burning all the evidence and Chloe being pressured into siding with Bryce. There are alot of layers to unpack.

I need to go back and watch season 1 to connect the dots, but Zach's hidden arc with Hannah was enjoyable, much more so than Clay. Mr. Porter slightly redeeming himself was enjoyable. He knows it's not bringing Hannah back but it lit a fire under his ass and his court scene was great.

Main complaints -Clay was annoying this season, but he's got a lot on his plate so I'll give him a pass. Did not like his relationship with Skye as he was completely checked out.

Bryce getting a slap on the wrist, not really a complaint, just not surprised. Deep pockets get you places in court. Didn't like that Zach ended up being the leaker to Clay, thought it would have been that new guy Scott that they kept showing, but nope apparently he's just there because he likes baseball and to reiterate he's not a rapist.

Showing Alex playing the Call of Duty clone over and over must have put the Jack Thompson types in a feeding frenzy, especially coming off a suicide attempt.

I miss Jeff but it's almost as if he's too positive for the show.

I'm sure there's more but I just finished and this is off the top of the dome so excuse the rambling. What themes specifically were mishandled in your opinion? They're all flawed characters and I appreciate that.

Honestly, I kept half expecting her to show up at the end of the season, alive.
I was too. The absurdity just gets worse and worse, last season grounded itself pretty well but this season has (minor spoilers for things that happen this season
guns (quite a few of them), attempted murder, more rape, the worst portrayals of mental illness, adults who are cartoonishly evil or ignorant, and kids who are supposed to be 15 - 17 years old are acting like criminal masterminds.

It's all very inauthentic and ridiculous, I cant fathom what they have done. It's hard to believe people wrote this and shot it and edited it. I'll just read the Wikipedia plot summary next season.

Finished the season.

For the first five episodes I constantly questioned the purpose of this season but it became clearer as it went on. I enjoyed the themes toward the end and where it went. By far the most memorable scene to me was in the last episode
when Clay is sitting over the water with imagined Hannah as the song lovely by Billie Elish and Khalid played

I still can't get over the whole clubhouse thing. It's so ridiculous.
It's a literal rape room. Guys in high school do shitty things, I've witnessed it first hand. But the idea of 20+ 15 - 17 year old guys all taking girls in to this shed to rape girls and no one knows and they take pictures of it like trophies is just the most absurd concept.

I saw 2 episodes and quite frankly I am really disappointed. I really liked the first season I thought it was well paced and had some great mystery behind it.

But this feels rush, sloppy and quite frankly I just dont care anymore. I mean I dont see how the story of Hana has to be the focus here AGAIN. Her story felt absolutely complete and right now, so far, season 2 feels like milking.

Also too much angst... WAY TOO MUCH, its not that season 1 didnt have it, but they are taking it to the next level here, so far that it just isnt convincing...

also
Clay going completely psycho and conversing with hana while he is keeping his room door shut to his mother, as if she is going to open and see Hana herself... I mean wtf... what kind of a writer pisses so much at a character? What, Clay cant even realize that he is having mental issues? That Hana isnt really there? Come the hell on... he even closed the door so that Hana doesnt watch him change clothes...

I think the writers are so far removed from being teens that they don't realize something like this would be a secret for all of like 24 hours before a kid bragged about it and suddenly the entire school would know.

Kids keep secrets from adults, but not so much from each other. It's kind of one of the premises of the show, where kids can't ever shut the fuck up.

When Justin got with Hannah, it was public knowledge to the whole school before first period even started.

They make their own rules and break them/change them when it's convenient for them. It's some of the worst writing I've ever seen in a TV show
