No shame, baby.

Nah, but I think people whining about genwunners are being pretty pedantic in the grand scope of the franchise. Genwunners just a community pejorative meant to shut people up for hoping the games go back to how they were. In the Sonic community, we had a lot of people angry at "classic fanboys."
Terrible comparison, as the most recent classic games had plenty of new content. They didnt take anythinf away from sonic games or canon.

151 only makes sense with the leaked screenshot. They're probably not gonna bother modeling hundreds of Pokemons' animations for the Kanto+ overworld.

We've already seen that they have overworld walking animations for all 802 Pokemon hidden away in Sun and Moon, and that's on top of the 802 Pokemon they have already modelled. It's not out of the ordinary to think they could implement them for the overworld animations that we see in the leaked photo.

Speaking of models, the 3DS models were fine (and the main bane of performance) but man I can only imagine what US/UM would look like with HD textures and more up to date shaders because it already looks nuts in HD

Back to basics doesn't need to be "back to the exact same Pokemon who have been featured over and over for 20 years" is the problem. There's ZERO reason to strictly feature the original 151 in a new game, outside of them doing a radical shake up/reboot to many of the series core mechanics and this doesn't seem like it's doing that at all.

Edit: Yo! People were bad mouthing Barbaracle in here? Don't fuck around, boys. Do not.

Doesn't need to be, sure, and I agree with everything you said personally. But I don't think being of the opinion of wanting a game feature the original 151 Pokemon only is worth using pejoratives or worth calling people terrible, lol.

Oh, for sure. That's pathetic. The genwunner rhetoric is embarassing as hell.

I love that we've now decided that the game is going to only have the original 151 and be total shit when we've literally had zero confirmed about it yet.

Well if the rumors are all true and it gets revealed, its only going to happen way more, so get ready for trouble and make it double.

Let's go will be a pokemon civil war.

Guys they're not going to give Eevee as a starter and not let you get FIVE of it's evolutions. Espeon, Umbreom, Glaceon, Leafeon and Sylveon are all post Gen 1.

You guys think they're going to limit people to Jolteon/Flareon/Vaporeon again after all the promotion?

So, since these games seem to be a wash, where do you think Gen 8 will take place? I'm hoping for Australia or India. Genwunners need not answer, I want Gen 8 to feature new Pokemon and locations. You can go play with Magmar or Sandshrew or whatever for a year.

Poke-Australia would still have fewer poison types than Kanto

Yup. Nothing has been officially revealed and many have shared their disapproval and lack of interest. This is pretty common though, as seen in the prerelease God of War threads. Pokémon is obviously not the next God of War, but I'm excited for the reveal and the coverage leading up to release to see which rumors are true and which are false.

I get you, I'm similar in that I wouldn't mind a Kanto remake with new pokemon. I still think they'll go the Gaas route though and so there may be more pokemon/regions throughout the next year or 2.

That being said, seems like everything GF/TPC said 2 years ago applies to this year as well.

20th university for pokemon yellow.

Only 151 because they are very nostalgic for older players.

Younger players get to experience them for the first time.

It still doesn't thrill me, especially since they just showed, and introduced younger players who are invested in the anime, what a reimagined Kanto can look like. I know last time I brought this up, I instantly got shot down - but I think if we are getting a remake of Yellow, we're getting M20 Kanto.

The leaked screen doesn't use walking animations. It has Gyrados and Magikarp swimming, which are new animations unique to each, and animations for Pokémon in the grass would have to be unique too because Tauras in the grass is different than Caterpie in the grass. If overworld Pokémon is true, I don't see them having it sorted out for all 800+ Pokémon on their first try.

If because they are limiting it to the 151 of Gen 1, Eevee can't evolve into Umbreon, we have a fucking problem.

I love gen 1. Gen 2 is my favorite gen...but a lot of that has to do with RETURNING to kanto lol.

however, I play these games to build teams and shit...and that requires a VARIETY of different pokemon. I have used damn near all of gen 1's pokemon at one point or another...I am done with them. There are tons of pokemon that have not appeared since their debut that I'd love to get a chance to use....but nope the same ole dudes I've used yet again.

Its boring as fuck and there is no good reason for it other than appealing to peeps who fell off the wagon and that is fucking lame. I already am a bit pissed that we are returning to kanto and probably won't get any new pokemon...the mere idea that we will kneecap ourselves even more just adds to my annoyance.

i don't mind people who love the OG crew. I love them too. I DO mind people who would rather the franchise never move beyond them..thats what being a genwunner means to me.

What is one mechanic removed from sonic mania? It actuakly added some like the drop dash.

But comparing a collecting rpg and a platformer is useless. And genwunners has a perjorative because they literally come to troll pokemon threads and forums ALL the time.

Boost, drift, stomp, homing attack, 3D, voice acting. lol Compare Forces to Sonic Mania. They're worlds apart. But anyway, a 1:1 list of comparable things lost and gained was not the point of my statement.

I agree with your sentiment entirely, I just want to add that Wingull is as played as Zubat and needs to fuck off out of the regional dex for a lifetime.
Yea, but Wingull feels so natural flying around Vermillion City.

That's where it was in HGSS, and when I first met one it actually took a second to remember that it wasn't a Gen I/II Pokemon because it just naturally fit there so well.

In a potential cutscene that shows the SS Anne leaving port, what's going to be flying around the boat? Spearow?

Even the background Pokemon are going to be boring without variety from future generations.

I mean there are options other than 151 or 800+. With the current rumors they aren't even going to include evolutions of gen 1 Pokemon that came later.

By the end of the craze sure, but to kick start it and get the opening few million that caused banwagonners to hop on they had to appeal to as wide a range as possible of people and Gen 1 was chosen for that reason.

Like This is straight from their mouths and nearly all their actions around it support their stance from their ad's to their interviews. The Google game that inspired and opened the door to Pokemon had pokemon from multiple gens and THEY TOOK THOSE POKEMON OUT in favor of Gen 1 only. Like I've said before, I don't think this played the largest role in pokemon go getting big, but it definitely played had an impact.

Anyway here's some fun info
NS demographic break down.
C-ijABEXYAAwVSB.jpg

And here's pokemon go near the height of its craze.
0*WnT4PohwZGBJJnOe.png

Age range is most interesting part of these to me.

As a somewhat serious Go player, I would say this is accurate, at least based on my experience. Although the gender distribution seems like it would be closer to 70% male, at least in my area.

Here's the thing though - most of the Go players that I encounter are actually hardcore Pokemon fans. They've played at least one of the core games, they care passionately about IVs, movesets, raid counters, wind boosted stats, and the metagame in general. Even on community day, which would presumably bring out more casual players than usual, nearly everyone I was encountering could be qualified as being much more than just a "casual" player than loads up the game a few times per month.

If GameFreak is trying to appeal to Go players, or at least current active players, they may be doing themselves a disservice by trying to "simplify" core concepts.

not every pokemon is going to be catchable in the first place. Many of them would be Bank only probably.

If the game loses team/enemy variety for a aesthetic reason (wanting to see pokemon on the overworld) then GF needs to sort their priorities.

Not that I believe the "leak" about only the 151 Pokemon being in, but is there a reason some of you are assuming that it'd extend to the postgame and online as well when the Pokebank exists?

I agree with what you're saying, it's just one of those Pokemon I wouldn't care to ever see again, because it's been a route filler for like 6 mainline games.

The only way I would be okay with the 151 is if you unlock the rest in post game and post game is huge.
The problem here is that you've got an entire game full of limited potential for team building. The original 151 is extremely limited in that regard.

So I had a busy weekend and didn't keep tabs on the thread...

Is all the negativity still people getting upset over the same like 4 old rumors (the bad screenshot, pokeGO integration, Gen 1 only, Kanto) or did anything else actually develop? Tried going back a bunch of pages and didn't see any real new developments.

This thread in a nutshell

K2h2lYU.png
People can dislike any design they want, wanting the games to drop 600+ Pokemon its not the same as saying you dont like a design.

Edit: I cant believe this game went from my most anticipated game, and the reason to buy a switch, to being the first time in my life I'm getting literally angry reading leaks/rumours.

That's pretty much everything. I think the guy on 4chan who original dropped the Pikachu/Eevee version rumor made a post saying it was Gen 1 only.

Yup. In reality there is nothing concrete, just leaks at the end of the day. And because we technically don't know anything, imaginations and fears are running wild lol

One of the original leakers dropped a tidbit about the games only featuring Gen 1 Pokemon, which is what the majority of the back and forth is about.
