I still find it weird how unbalanced certain cars are. Just tried the Subaru Gr.4 and even with no traction control that thing does not spin. Meanwhile the Porsche spins even with TC at 2. The Subaru isn't even understeery as well.

The chicane near the end of Dragon Trail is a bit of an accident blackspot but if you get it right it makes a massive difference to your time - In the recent qualifying I ended up at the back as I always came up behind a slower car through that section and it's virtually impossible to get a clean pass. So yes I can see how frustrating for you it is when someone does a dick overtaking move through there and takes you out, but I can also see how things are from their perspective too. I actually think that SR.S rank might be more of a detriment to you whilst your DR.D as you are probably getting put in with much faster guys due to the SR rather than peeps your speed based on DR.

I absolutely admit I exit that chicane conservatively because there's little room for error. But I was exiting the chicane and this person tried to pass me on the exit curve. Not only was this a display of bad judgment, but bad sportsmanship.

There is no excuse for unsafe passes. Period. If I'm going too slow for you, fucking wait until the straight. This person -- who had no chance of winning anyway -- was so impatiently demanding to be ahead of me that they were willing to take the chance of causing another player to drop two positions and take DR/SR penalties.

If anyone tries to overtake on that chicane, or unsafe passes in general, they need to assess whether they should be playing a game like Gran Turismo Sport.

I would like to see the next round of championship have some time slots split up a bit.. I thought the late night would be ideal, but I have only had time to race once this round. Being able to do a 8pm race would be nice.

I disagree. There are some cars that are objectively better than others.

There's a handful of cars that are very difficult to be competitive in (e.g. The GT86 in GR4) but the rest are a wash. It's all down to your driving style. Can you give an example of a car that is absolutely better than all the other cars in GR3 or GR4 across all tracks?

It's a game. Shit happens. You're not gonna learn unless you make mistakes.

People attempting passes like the one I was involved in aren't making mistakes, they are overly aggressive drivers who value winning more than clean racing, and are willing to ruin other people's races to do so.

If you want to try out risky maneuvers, do it with AI opponents, or a private lobby or something.

99.9% of racing games reward players with playing aggressively. People are conditioned to play like that. It's a learning curve, and more likely they don't understand why you shouldn't do that.

Mistakes will naturally happen but before you race online, you're forced to take racing etiquette lessons. If you still want to race like an asshole after that, Gran Turismo Sport isn't the game for you.

Those etiquette lessons are awful. I have said prior that PD should introduce some sort of racing school focusing on the different type of real race situations highlighting the proper way to deal with them and then have the player perform it themselves. The number of people that try and go for gaps that don't exist is crazy, if they have the speed then they will be able to do the overtake properly on the straight and very few notice or understand this.

Being able to overtake, defend, follow, have track awareness and hold their line in response to other cars are equally important skills as knowing the lines so it is odd for a game that emphasizes racing and professionalism but has nothing that teaches the fundamentals in this regard yet spends ages setting challenges for people to understand the different types of corners.

Not sure about GT3 but GT4 I definitely think the Subaru might need a bit of a nerf. It corners well and you can floor it without much consequence. Acceleration seems good as well. It has the highest stats iirc out of the GT4 class.

Yep what the mission challenges teach you are try to and overtake as many cars as possible on a narrow windy track without touching the cars or the wall... And if you mess it up just press retry :-)

Sorry if I caused offence with what I said, trust me it wasn't meant that way. It's just racing and games in general are a risk/reward scenario and sometimes people get it wrong. Some people are just arseholes too and will deliberately mess up your race. That chicane exit is high risk on its own without trying an overtake through it, that's just pretty stupid.

I can't say I've seen the WRX being used that much I the races I've been in, the usual suspects are the 4C, GTR and Camen that seem to be the preferred choice. Like GHG says tho it does seem to be track dependant, I found I could do low 2.18s in the Corvette on Mount Panorama tonight and the guy who beat me did a 2.17.8 with a Megane (that is bloody quick in a straight line). My normal GR.4 choice is the Viper or 650S but neither could match the Vette on that track.

If that's your criteria for whether a car is better or not then you will also have joy with the GTR, Hurucan and Lancer GR4 cars. But you need to understand that there are also downsides to all of these cars that have high stability on corner exit due to them all being all wheel drive. Turn in will not be as sharp and there's also the fact that these cars tend to weigh more due to AWD which also have an impact on braking distances. Having said that, AWD cars suit taking corners deep with a slow in fast out driving style and that might be what you are used to.

With proper throttle control I would almost guarantee that you would be faster using the Cayman than you would using the Wrx on a track such as Dragon Trail for example where there are multiple high speed chicanes and sweeping corners. On a track like that carrying speed through corners counts for more than having high traction on corner exit because it enables you to keep your overall average speed higher.

I've literally never come up against a WRX in over 100 sport races and thought "bloody hell that needs a nerf". In fact, other than the GTR (which they did nerf) I've not thought that about any car I've come up against.

I think that right now, GR4 cars are really well balanced, and whether to choose one or another relies mainly on the characteristics of the track. This week I've seen people winning on 4Cs, Citroen GTs, Vipers, Meganes, Sciroccos, Porsches... and so on. There is not a single car dominating the picture like the pre-nerf GTR (talking of which, it's barely used right now based on my experience)

And they are extremely easy. They're only really good for practice against slow AI with simple lines. They don't even go into the basics and you always have enough speed to overtake them around a corner on the outside which is going to be a rare occasion in a good race against average opposition.

I have to adjust my line at least three times per race not to cause a crash because a person behind me has no idea that their positioning will hit me and isn't an overtaking line anyway as they hit the apex early so I just cross them when they go wide and take the late apex nice an easy keeping my position. This type of line against AI is totally legitimate on the hardest settings as the cars move well out of your way and don't attack back. By doing this online it prevents both of us from getting closer to the racers in front and for people who don't watch their surroundings as much as I do it's just going to bump them wide, potentially spin them and slow the guilty driver down so even if they have gained a place it is going to limit them. My favorite thing in racing is working with another person to catch up with those in front and you are likely to take their place as even the most defensive driver is going to struggle to stop two drivers that know how to overtake, I have only had this twice so far since I started playing and that was today and on Blue Moon qualifying.

I must admit I don't think I've ever worked with another driver to catch a driver ahead, that probably more slipstreaming on an oval. What's usually the case is what I had tonight where you end up compromised on your lines and losing time - I was battling for 3rd place which slowed us both down to a point where 3rd to 7th places were up for grabs with 5 cars in the mix. I got outmanoeuvred and ended up coming in 7th and relegated to SR.C for my troubles but it certainly was an exciting end to a race.

Mount Panorama I started 3rd, grabbed 2nd with an opportunistic move in the twisties and that was the race done, I couldn't make up the 4 second gap to 1st and we both pulled away from 3rd. It sounds like Ainsz had a very similar race so I dunno if that's just a thing with that track.

So I noticed in online sports mode they no longer let you fully tune / customize your car? Was this done to level the playing field? Because I'm good at tuning, always shaves off at least two seconds from my time from default tune to custom tune.

I even have a mathamatical formula for gear ratios that never let me down.

Tuning is one of the optional settings on sport races. It's been on in past races and I assume it will be on in future races.

Seems like there are ways to collide and not take a penalty. Some dude just did that to get ahead of me. What an asshole. Got me so angry.

Been enjoying the game very much even with the unfair penalty system but what annoyed me is that since release there is no Nürburgring(full track) in the Sport Mode daily rotation yet. As much as I love racing on Dragon Tail 5 days a week the Ring or green hell is where the online mode in GT Sport will be elevate to the next level in online racing. So please PD put the
Nürburgring in the daily soon!

Are you sure? I think I saw Nurburgring yesterday as the One Make race, but maybe it wasn't the full track like you say.

Damn, that FIA Maggiore time of day is really hard to play, so much glare! I wish they'd choose more morning or evening times for races. Also, Maggiore is a joy to drive on Gr.4, but I don't find the Gr.3 class to be very fun.

Is anyone seeing their FIA race schedule and the actual race entries just totally screwed up? If I got to the schedule of either Nations Cup or Manufacturers, both show the Nations Cup schedule. And in the race entries, it seems to put entries for both races in each one. Seems pretty broken.

Only the GR3 cars posted a final time..... Everyone else timed out on seventh lap. Fun race though.... If you can be consistent through that top section then most racers make mistakes and fall back.

Probably the best way to conclude an argument on which car is better is by comparing the best lap time you can get with the respective cars :))

Oh, I agree. Those racing etiquette lessons are awful. However, at the every least they give you an idea of what GTS is about and promote at clean racing at every opportunity.

If somebody still chooses to ignore the clips and still race like they were playing Burnout, I stand by my original point. Gran Turismo Sport isn't the game for them.

Damn, I'm so confused by the FIA race times since daylight savings time changed on the west coast that I missed both races tonight. Though tbh I wasn't looking forward to either one. Mount Panorama seemed like SR suicide on that uphill portion.

Had a couple of races and everything went smoothly. No ramming or overly agressive behaviour. What a blast! Can't wait for the daily to change, maybe I can drive a non oval in GR3 this time???

Also managed to reach rank C driving skill and rank A SR, feels damn good. Also there are cetainly cars that outperform others in their respective class. I primarily did the GR4 race over the past day and - for example - the Caymans got outclassed by the Viper Gr4 EASILY. They were almost always one or two seconds slower. Feelsbad for everyone who signed the Porsche contract.

You didn't run out of fuel did you?

No, I meant the warm up before each race. It's kinda pointless. Most of the time you come straight out of the qualifying laps, there is not need to "warm up".

New Unsurprising Dailies

Interlagos -- Single Make (Clio R.S. 220) -- 3 laps, 12 cars
Suzuka Circuit -- Gr.4 (Garage) -- 3 laps, 16 cars
Alsace -- Gr.3 (Garage) -- 8 laps, 20 cars, fuel + tire wear

If you join in the last minute you won't be able to do qualifying just before the race. I think the warmup is a good touch and it allows everybody to at least familiarise themselves with the first couple of corners or make final tweaks to their setup/options.

There's no reason not to have it to be honest and it adds a bit more of an authentic feel to the sport races Vs other games that just throw everybody straight onto the track and into chaos.

Yeah, I know but how is it fair?

You don't drive much do you? Rear wheel drive cars are prone to oversteer which is actually beneficial in getting the car pointing the right way in a corner.

4wd drive cars whilst less twitchy and more sure footed tend to have wider turning circles meaning tighter corners have to be taken slower.

Very true. I like Suzuka, although prefer the GP version. And I really enjoy Alsace, it's actually become one of my favorites. Though I prefer Gr.4 on it; Gr.3 feels like I'm playing Wipeout on that track.

Am I the only one who is bothered by the glare on some of these tracks though? PD always chooses mid-day for the races and the glare on Alsace is really distracting. I wish they'd tone down the bloom a bit.

Have you got a HDR TV? Can't say I've had an issue with it but I'm not using HDR.

This is my GR3 race from yesterday, 5 laps of wheel to wheel action with up to 5 cars, got a bit feisty at the end (and I got demoted to C too) but it was good to be part of.

You can see as soon as we started battling then our lap times dropped by about 2 seconds allowed the chasing pack to catch us and get involved.

Yeah, this is an area that the game currently doesn't do a good job of evaluating. They need a rule in the SR evaluation system to satisfy this type of situation and discredit the dangerous racer.

Racers who are familiar with a certain track may not do the qualifying, and just enter close to entry closing time, so it's useful that way. Also, the warm-up may give you an impression of risky drivers and your competition in general (although it may not always be accurate, since they may not be driving seriously),

So the FIA races have now finished in my timezone and nothing happened. There was no results screen showing me my final tally or anything. The menu has switched to showing the info for Test Season 2 which starts tomorrow.
