Not even problems, really, just the pettiest of quibbles that drive you crazy.

Mine is in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. It's about as perfect as platformers get and is up there with Yoshi's Island as the genre's peak. One of the coolest things about the game is the use of Animal Buddies to progress through the game, each with special skills of their own.

But what the hell is with the levels where you transform into the animal instead of just riding them? Is it a hitbox thing? That's the best explanation I could come up with but it drives me crazy when you only ride the animals sometime and the other times you transform into them.

Not having sufficient control over fast-forwarding time in Majora's Mask. I understand the remake fixed this, but the other changes put me off.

Even more minor: the few seconds it takes to switch characters in Castlevania III.
Also: the original title screen for FFX.

In the newest God of War:

Not being able to walk toward the camera. It just sometimes feels weird the camera always locked to your back as you back peddle everywhere.

I don't mind that if you're locked on or aiming at something, but all the time? nah.

It's not a hitbox thing. They wanted to create levels that used the animal buddies to their fullest so they made the barrels. If they just used the boxes players could become stuck if they lost their animal buddy and that's no fun.

Different mechanics. The animals act like Yoshi when you're riding them where if you take a hit they protect you from damage but start running away. In the transformation levels you take normal damage and can die using the animals, and it also guarantees that you'll use them for the entire section.

The actual 'maze' bit in Hazy Maze Caves, Mario 64.

Poison gas and a new bullet-spewing mole enemy type; both of which don't appear anywhere else in the game?

Jog on, Mario.

The fact that crocco is not wearing crocs in Super Mario RPG.

Oh and all of Kero Sewers.

No quick ability to retry a verse in Bayonetta except via backing out to the title menu and continuing. Annoyingly, W101 has it, but the menus are slow, and the loading takes ages, so you end up not doing it anyway. :/

That unskippable intro you get every time you start Splatoon 2 of the 2 girls telling you about the maps. It gets old and you can't skip it

I really disliked that's Ada and Leon didn't talk about anything on the boat ride to the final Island in resident evil 4 to finally flesh out their relationship a bit more. That was the perfect moment to build something...anything.

In Sonic Mania, Sonic is teal colour blue when he should be cobalt blue coloured. There's even a mod to fix this:
maxresdefault.jpg

Yes I am 100% self aware that I'm salty over Sonic being the wrong shade of blue. This is the hill I've chosen to die on.

Why no, I don't have a life thank you for asking.

In the Uncharted series, the fall distance that Nate can sustain and survive is inconsistent and somewhat arbitrarily determined by the devs. He sometimes dies after a relatively minor fall (by Uncharted standards) if you go off the path that the designers intended. That inconsistency in game rules definitely bugs me, but it didn't impact my enjoyment of those games by a huge amount.

If the punishment was better, I would have loved it. I mean, if weapon swapping was done in real time(or slowed down time), then I can see the reason. As it is now, with pause-screen weapon swapping, it really doesn't add much to the tension, instead it actually reduces it since you're taken out of the action to pick weapon. Not only that, it creates that "Elixir" moment for people like me: I would save weapons in case I need them for a tougher fight, missing out on some fun combo because I'm never sure what I need and when I need(and I refuse to look up spoilers).

"Oh, you can use the ice wand to do what? And then what? Wow, too bad I'm just going to hold onto these ice weapons in case I need them for a tougher fight. I'm going to stick with these common Moblin weapons."

The disappearing blocks in Heatman's stage can push MegaMan through walls and into bottomless pits if you time your jumps wrong.

That's honestly the smallest flaw I can think of.

This was the mechanic that put me off trying BOTW for a bit, but I ended up liking it quite a bit. Weapons breaking forced me ro change up and try different stuff out. After awhile, I was using this breaking as part of the fight, with picking up enemy weapons to use against them.

The rate of breaking could have been slowed down a little.

I did get burned during on area where I ran out of bows. I needed more to dight a boss and ended up having to farm them a bit.

My gripe would probably be all purpose buttons. Especially if that button shares a use/attack ability.

Pokemon games from Gen V onward (or maybe I'm just overlooking earlier instances) have outdoor-to-outdoor loading screens. It's most frustrating in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, where they occur in places with seamless transitions in the originals (like walking between Oldale Town and Route 102). It doesn't make a substantial difference in the game's design, but a little part of my soul dies every time I see it.

That stupid fucking owl in OoT.
God, seriously, it is 100% useless and the rage when you accidentally have him repeat himself because Nintendo is weird and thought the default option being "yes, repeat yourself" was a good idea for someone we all mash the A button just to get to shut up.

I'm sorta mad the new one still plasters the goddamn name of the game twice, but yeah it's better. I'm also glad they made it look like a wave and not a bar picture of bad photoshop filters designed to look like water.

I'm like 99% sure that FFX section that says <Final Fantasy X Official Web Site> was a placeholder that made it into the final release of the game. It makes no sense to put that text there in that format otherwise. I mean, the whole title screen is nonsense, but that especially is confounding.

The Sonic 1 title screen is off centre, once you notice it you can't not see it, absolutely ruins the opening for me now

Street Fighter V is the best fighting game this gen by a large medium, but the camera during most Critical Arts is pure garbage.

Any content that's time gated in a paid primarily single player game.

Specifically the Twilight Missions in Nioh.

Let me play the content at my own pace, I don't see the benefit in making me come back every day. It's not a GaaS with MTX, I don't think my engagement is used as a metric for anything.

It really hampered my enjoyment of the game.

Why no, I don't have a life thank you for asking.

I mean we're all posting on a video game message board so...

More like things I hate doing before doing something:

- Grinding for Crissaegrim in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- Grinding to get Lightning 2, Fire 2, and Water 2 before the Magus fight in Chrono Trigger
- Grinding for Reflect before conquering the Sealed Cave in Final Fantasy IV
