I took a look at Digital Foundry's video for recommended TV settings. We happen to have the same model so this was worth checking out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXx9DSuY3hs

Not sure I entirely agree with some of their presets though.

Warm over 40? That seems overkill.

Color Gamut on Normal instead of Wide? They claim it's a more "natural" color, but for me it feels washed out. I think I prefer Wide much more.

And I rarely see any commentary of Super Resolution. From near as I can tell, the games that wouldn't benefit from it don't look better or worse with it turned on, while the ones that do show a noticeable difference seem to have improved backgrounds with it set to at least Medium.

The ISF setting for movies also continues to confuse me. It seems you use ISF Bright or Dark depending on the lighting of your space. They mention offices and dark rooms, but what am I supposed to do with a small room that's somewhere in the middle, brightness-wise?

Lastly, they don't mention any settings for movies/shows that feature HDR, as some Netflix shows do. Not sure what my settings should be in that instance.

That video was before LG tweaked the tone mapping for HDR game mode.

Now wide is the correct setting. Before it wasn't.

Now you need dynamic contrast on. Assuming of course you are on the latest firmware.

B6 changes not quite as drastic as changes on my C6. Having said all that I'm loving HDR gaming on the C6, DC hasn't bothered me.

Super resolution is interesting. On my 1080p EC9300 OLED this setting helped a lot with blurry games like FFXV but on my B6 so far i haven't seen a difference at all whether it was enabled or disabled. At the end of the day these settings are very subjective. A friend of mine has his LG LED TV at like C50 color temperature which sounds rather crazy to me but he loves it.

I've adjust to the warm setting, my 65B6 is at W45. Colour gamut can only be wide in game mode. When it comes to their HDR settings I really am not using their settings much. Because HDR game is just too dim if I don't put dynamic contrast at medium. And Colour in HDR game mode is at 75 here actually, I really don't like the Colour at their setting.

Yeah, I have. I've just lost my external hard drive with it's >3TB of installed game, so I've been redownloading things to my internal drive (12 is apparently max occupancy for the games I want to play. Gotta find where I squirred away those other externals I wasn't using...). My download speeds seem to be dependant on the game I'm downloading, er... that's what I was assuming at least. I was bouncing between 130ish Mb/s all the way down to the 20s at times.

My connection is fluctuating between 220mbps and about 50. It's usually more stable, but I assume that because of the X being released that there is a little less bandwidth to go around

While re-downloading Tomb Raider last night, I generally hovered around 100 but it dipped between 30-180.

Well at least you guys are much better off than me. My connection is dipping below 1MB/s!

It's constantly going from 30+ to below 1. At this rate I'll just give up on downloading the 70GB patch for Quantum Break :(

Shit, I didn't realise that you had to use a usb 3.0 drive to capture vids and pics. I thought 2.0 would've been ok.

Is your instant on mode working? If it is it should boot right up to home, with almost no delay. If it is not then you will see the green boot screen. I think my Xbox One X is turning itself off completely while in Instant On mode. Maybe yours is doing the same thing?

It's inconsistent. After I made my post, my Xbox One did boot up instantly to my game. It did it 2-3 times.

But then when I put it into sleep with Wolfenstein, it booted up the game as closed.

I don't think it's going to the green screen tho. So it's like Instant on is working - it's just the games are closing.

And to be clear, I don't close the games out. I always pause in game, then hold the Xbox button down on my controller and shut down the console.

The issue seems to be that instant on mode, is sometimes shutting my games down. It's weird. It works sometimes tho :/

Is there anyone with an YouTube HDR compatible TV or Chromecast Ultra able to test my Gears 4 X HDR footage? Would appreciate it, as I'm not sure if is uploaded correctly. Thanks.

So basically you like inaccurate settings. You're not the only one, but I like to see things as the creators intended. With games it's pretty trivial obviously, but certainly with film content I like accuracy.

Does anyone know when the 4k Wolfenstein patch is out? I googled it and articles made it sound like the patch was out.

But I'm now seeing people say it isn't. I'm not seeing the 4K options in my game.

Blaaahhh, I was gonna buy KOTOR, but you still can't use your MS account currency to buy old games on Xbox One, they seriously need to fix that shit.

I'd set it to 8bit or 10 bit, ultimately it doesn't make any real difference as the dashboard is only made for 8bit color anyway.
I've got a feeling that the built in calibration images on the Xbox only work properly in 8bit.
The dashboard being in 8-bit doesn't matter when games are utilizing 10-bit (I believe Gears4 is one of them). The user you're responding to has a 10-but panel, so s/he should set their X accordingly.

This is totally only something that happened after the Xbox One came out. I know for a fact I used to use my account balance to buy stuff on the website during the Xbox 360 era. Even after MS points went away.

You are buying from Xbox.com when you buy on Xbox One, which is why you get the weird crappy bit that loads up. It never worked on Xbox.com

This is honestly the only reason why I kept my 360.

They should make a little 360 dashboard app so you can do it

I guess I'll try and ask this here:
Had anyone tried playing Dark Souls 3 on X1X?

If so, could you connect to the server for online play?
Three days now I've tried logging in from my XOne X and have been unable to connect, yet all my other multiplayer games work and my Xbox's NAT is listed as "open".

I didn't see any indication from the official channels that it's down though...

AC Origins is such a great game to play on the X. Its a beauty and it runs great all the time during gameplay.

Day of purchase is always the hardest for these current gen consoles lol, I'm aching to play some games, but I gotta sit pretty much most of today with downloads. I mean, I could boot up Ninja Gaiden Black is I wanted to...but I wanna play Forza Horizon 3, and that's over 50gb lol.

I'm really debating getting this just because I got an X now... I've felt done with the series since Black Flag, but I dunno..maybe it's time to give another go.

Don't mean for this to sound as fanboyish as it probably will, but man I really love this console. It's just an exciting piece of tech. Luckily my X is even quieter than my S too. It's giving me those new gen vibes. However, unlike the anemic releases new generations have at the start, I actually have a crap ton to play due to my backlog.

I guess I'll try and ask this here:

I've been playing DS3 on XBOS since the weekend before the XBOX came out. I've been having trouble logging in or even seeing my friend's coop sign period on both consoles. Servers seemed hosed compared to what I remember on PS4.

So since the Xbox One X is in my house I finally had the chance for a longer play session with some enhanced games.

Holy moly. Gears 3 looks like a new game, Forza 7 looks insane as Assassins Creed Origins does on my screen. Wolfenstein 2 and Titanfall 2 are next.

Having played all this games for straight 4 hours my console stayed really quiet. Totally whisper quiet if the console has very low workload like with the UI and a slightly noticeable fan noise when under workload (I only noticed it when I turned the volume down). All in all I don't hear the console from where I sit under normal conditions.

Yeah, I haven't been playing it on Xbox One, since I got it for PC, but I did have issues when I got my X1X. I hit up Bamco and they said their servers were still online.

That said, I just tested it and I logged right in.

Not sure if it has fully processed the 4K yet.

I had a look, it wasn't running in HDR and it looked really wrong. I suspect that you've not injected the HDR metadata in a format that youtube likes, so it hasn't tone mapped it.

It hasn't processed any HDR versions yet, as I can see from down here,

I cannot for the life of me play any backward compatible games. I think it's because of 2FA.

When it tries to download my profile it just fails. It doesn't give me the opportunity to enter my special app password that I created. How do I enter this?

I have 2FA and have never had this problem.

Try going to the system settings and clearing the 360 local cache.

Thanks for looking, appreciate it! I knew YouTube would be fucking annoying when it came to HDR! I basically recorded externally from the X, then reincoded it to h.264 10bit, but that's obviously not good enough.

My TV has the firmware before the change to HDR gaming. I downgraded based on all the negative press it was getting, though I also read some reports that the change is fine as long as you switch on dynamic contrast.

I'm not sure what the overall opinion is on that anymore. I'd bite the bullet and test it myself, but not before I can downgrade the firmware back. The instructions on how to do so were lost with the previous TV thread, unfortunately, so I need that insurance policy in case I don't like it.

That's what I notice too: on games where Super Resolution makes a difference, it's a noticeably improved difference. One of the games I can state this with confidence is Infamous Second Son. On the games where it doesn't make a difference, it doesn't seem to make the picture worse either, so I see no reason not to have it on.
Probably adds latency.

You have to use a dedicated HDD from the USB and use capture mode on it, that'll record at 4K 60hz and it's fully useable on a PC.

Is it?

Patch notes said that it would have 4K and Dynamic Resolution. I assumed they would be modes. But I didn't see any options in the menu.

Edit:

Just re read the patch notes and I think it's 4K + dynamic scaling for performance. So it's one in the same. Okay

So I guess the patch is live!

HDR video formats are a pain in the ass, even more so when Youtube is involved , they have some command prompt tools to help with it.

I have 2FA and have never had this problem.

Try going to the system settings and clearing the 360 local cache.

Thanks, that made me pry deeper. Ugh, it's triggering my firewalls IPS scanning. No idea why I'm not seeing it with the Xbox One stuff, nor with my old console. Wondering if perhaps it's something unique to the initial profile download, and I didn't have this firewall last time I did that.

Off to write rules for the Xboxes I guess.

Edit: FWIW - https://www.checkpoint.com/defense/advisories/public/2014/cpai-2014-2417.html

I'm not sure about the Rev. 2 part, but this is the vulnerability it's detecting.

About to get crucified here but I prefer Xbox's UI over PS4's..
I think it simply depends on what you use more.

I like my PS4, but I honestly believe the UI is one of the worst parts of it. Managing my game collection is a pain in the butt, it's never clear to me which games are installed vs. which are in my library but not installed, and installing stuff from my library takes way too many clicks and screen transitions.

Then there's the settings UI. I still don't get why downloads and updates are buried under "settings" so I always forget where to look. Settings themselves are really difficult to navigate. Friends lists, chat UI, and adding friends is just "off" to me and I'm not used to how to do it, and on and on.

I'm sure I'd get used to everything if I used it more, but in its current incarnation, the Xbox One UI is absolutely fantastic IMO. Especially what the team did with the guide.
