What kind of HW numbers are we expecting for Smash? After all, most fans of the series are also fans of the other Nintendo franchises, and at this point I'd believe that the majority already own a Switch...

Nah.

Smash has its own audience. That's why it's a system seller.

Many Nintendo fans like Smash, but not all Smash fans are typical Nintendo fans.

User warned: Goading people into bickering with an inflammatory comment.
The only one that sets the targets for a successful or not Fiscal Year is Nintendo.
Sure, whether it will be ok for Nintendo or not will depend on if they will hit their target or not but I didn't say successful, I said an "achievement" meaning sales that would appear impressive basically. Beating 2017 Switch sales wouldn't be impressive in any way imo considering the points I underlined. A lower price is not an excuse as well as the console is selling on par with 3DS basically everywhere else in the world despite that and Switch itself in Japan would easily have done much better last year if only they would have had stocks for the most important period of the year. So expecting Switch this year to do better than in 2017 is imo and for all these reasons really not that much to ask.

Jarmusch: I salute you man, I know how hard it is to go against the horde and stay calm sometimes here ;). The ignore list is your friend for people that have nothing else to contribute than baseless and childish attacks. Thankfully that's still a very small minority.

Yeah! Let's salute a poster who came into the thread with an antagonistic posture, made false claims, and then when confronted with his falsity insulted everyone.

The antagonist attitude of some other person don't seem to bother you that much unfortunately. I don't excuse the insults but I can certainly understand how you can lose your temper when you see how some people act and for that I can at least understand how such shitty discussion happen. That's my opinion but I'm not interested in the slightest to comment on that more than what has already be done.

It was crystal clear from the initial post what his intention was. Come on. You don't start out a well meaning analysis of sales with "im a nintendo fan but people on media create threads have become super defensive and overprotective when it comes to nintendo"

He's not the only one with antagonist attitude, but this is a game of testing the bottom line. What matters is who crossed that line first, not how the whole thing is built up. The art of MC thread takes time to master, and I'm sure he will come back a stronger poster.

It's going to be slow, it is over 2 month till our next day off (excluding weekends) in Japan. When that happens we kind of just go into fun-hibernation. 30k+ is not a terrible number for post-golden week.

Now I've heard everything.

"Switch's performance in Japan not only has to beat last year but it also has to be impressive, an achievement."

I had no idea being impressive was more important than hitting something tangible like a forecast for hardware and software sales.

If you want Switch to be impressive by having to do more than last year which had BotW, MK8D, Splatoon 2 and SMO and beating 3DS Hardware and Software sales worldwide despite hardware shortages and being more expensive for both hardware and software then, lol.

Good luck with that.

Somewhere. I think.
Now, that's unexpected. Looks like Dragon Ball Heroes is getting an anime series. No details available at the moment, so not clear if it's just an OVA, a new series, whether it's continuation of Dragon Ball > Z > Super or a spin-off based on the cardass game. Guess we can expect Bamco to announced a new game for Switch in the upcoming months.

I recall Toei established a dedicated Dragon Ball department or some sort and this is probably one of their projects.

Only it isn't. Labo got a bump last week from GW, so we know it can sell well during a holiday. The drops were to be expected as everything drops post GW. Even then, Labo is still able to hang onto the top 5. That doesn't sound like a bomba to me.

Here's a question; how much time is given to a game to sell out its shipment or as close as possible before stores are forced to cut prices/put it in the bomba bins?

I assume as long as there's legs, even if the shipment's a bit slow to sell out, it'd be fine, but it depends on the speed of the shipment being sold I guess.

Find me literally ONE person who said that the week AFTER golden week would be the week to show Labo's strength.
Ignore list is your friend. I've long since given up on tolerating the hordes of people who are strutting around celebrating what they perceive as bad numbers for LABO. I find this hatred for a kids' toy the most pathetic behaviour I've seen on this forum.

In terms of Labo Robot & Variety, I said weeks ago that I expect the games to get a permanent price drop in a few months - and personally I didn't think that would have much to do about the games bombing, although we can certainly say that Labo Robot bombed compared to Variety. I think we'd see Labo Robot/Variety with a new price of about ¥3,500-4,500 before the summer vacation. And as I mentioned previously - I think we'd see the next Labo Pack launch which would be another factor towards lowering the price of the older packs. Overall by the end of the year majority of retailers will have a small dedicated space just to Labo and I think they'd be fine with this because it's the one game/DIY that's associated with the Switch which you can't purchase digitally.

Oh a serious poster that want to positively contribute to the discussion and I'm sure he'll be here to respond and substantiate his claims in good faith.

I mean, yeah, everyone can agree the Robot Kit isn't doing that well. But when the Variety Kit is picking up the slack, and when Labo as a whole is doing fine, then one weaker selling kit doesn't really matter. People forget that that's the secret to what could give Labo huge numbers, the mass of play-sets selling collectively rather than simply one title like a conventional game.

Err... how is the word 'infamous' applicable at all in this sense? People are obviously responding more to your obvious inability to argue in good faith and your childish celebratory attitude here but I'd actually like to hear why you chose to use the word infamous.

There were 3 games so far and they all sold very well. I fully expect one, the only question is when. But since Famista is getting a game this Summer, I think this series is soon to follow.
