The difference here is that this origin has been used in the comics. Earth One Alfred was a British soldier in the Middle East who saved Thomas Wayne at the expense of his leg. Alfred being a badass trained killer in his youth is more believable than secret agent Aunt May.

There's also a "Metropolis" in development, focusing on Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, prior to Superman arriving in the city.

If he wanted to work for Wayne, he could have instead been his security guard and head of security at the mansion.

He feels immense guilt at failing to protect the parents that he vows to protect their son.

This will probably be what happens eventually. A lot of the skillset that Alfred possess doesn't make sense unless he has some type of military background.

But no one gives a good reason as to why he decided to turn into a fuckin butler.

The idea of him sticking around because he was the Waynes head of security and feels immense guilt for their deaths gives really good context.
