Eurogamer: Leaks suggest Retro Studios making Star Fox racing spin-off (also heard by EG's sources)

My "insider" knowledge about Retro is 0%, that was pure speculation and common sense. If you develop a racing game in the Star Fox IP, you are most likely using vehicles and ships from that IP. It's not some wild fan theory lol.
Are the f zero drivers human? F zero and metroid could work, if so. But where do the furries come in?
You are asking that question in an affirmative way. This is how baseless rumors spread.
If they are moving away from dk its probably because of the same reason they moved away from metroid. They wanted something new to work in.

There are plenty of characters besides the main four (Krystal, Kat, Bill, Gen. Pepper, Star Wolf Team) plus I'm sure they will create some new ones.
I'm actually most interested, at this point, in seeing the Retro's design for Fox & team. And of course the most pressing question - which Fox design makes it to Smash ??

So part of me is wondering exactly how different from traditional Star Fox this game might be.
Like, imagine a standard linear Star Fox level. The only difference between that and a Star Fox level with racing in my mind is that you'd be competing against other pilots in the latter, and probably holding the boost as much as you can. Other than that the levels will probably be structured the same. Maybe with a few more turns, and maybe repeated laps, but beyond that I think the structure can remain the same.
It could even be possible that the game's story mode is about this "Grand Prix" and not all of the missions are actually races within the Grand Prix. Maybe there will be some standard Star Fox levels complete with standard boss battles.
The more I think about it the more this concept really intrigues me. I think it's going to be extremely unique, and probably have a fantastic showing. I just hope it actually makes E3 this year.

Constructive criticism is fine but when it's mostly hyperbole, vitriolic, jumping to conclusions it's getting annoying.

Yeah it's pretty terrible. Some of these people just want the same iterative game over and over and over again. Retro is allegedly putting a new spin on a classic Nintendo ip. Shouldn't we be excited for this?
I am and I'm excited to hear it will be more story focused. I could never get into mario kart single player but I really enjoyed Diddy long racing for the adventure mode. Really looking forward to this!

Exactly. I'm betting it'll be heavily based around racing but not necessarily all of it. I'm not sure how boss battles would work during a race.

I don't think they'd cancel Eternal Darkness 2. That's such a great IP that deserves to be brought back. Put it on the burner and finish it after SFGP.
Where did Eternal Darkness 2 come from? I thought the other report on the game in development hell (from that one-up guy) was that Miyamoto thought about appropriating a Nintendo IP to it. Why would it be Eternal Darkness 2?
Eh it's not that unlikely that Nintendo would want to give the I.P another shot eventually. I have been waiting since 2002 for a sequel and this is really sad if it turns out to be true.
Yeah. The Dasvergen person said it's similar to DKR, but didn't give details. Eurogamer only said they heard similar details.
F-Zero has a octopus, a t-rex, pretty sure there's also a wolf and a monkey. The F-Zero cast is pretty varied to the point of being kinda nonsensical which i guess is why it's not really liked.
Nothing is certain yet. The article says it's in danger of cancelation.
I don't think its Eternal Darkness, that game doesn't need a lot of innovation or gameplay systems. A good story and a good, decent combat system with insanity effects and your good. I cant imagine that kind of game being in development hell within a talented studio as Retro. It must have been some kind of new idea that didn't turn out that well.
This thread is going according to form. Thank god nobody in this thread has any kind of say in what kind of games get made and which get shit-canned. Let's all just wait and see how this turns out before we start embarrassing ourselves.

Sadly, this is a valid point. However, this thread shows that a sales potential doesn't always play a key role.

I honestly would be fine with that. I love starfox and starfox 0 gave me heartburn. If this has some kind of campaign from what the leaks say, I'm in.

A racing game has a potential sales higher than a horror game.
Nintendo experimented in Game Cube with ips "adult" and it did not work, that's why it has not returned to them.

Yes, at least Game Cube offered realistic graphics the same as the competition.
That kind of western and adult games have no interest for Nintendo, with getting some of thirds like Doom already going to be taken for granted.
If the game is actually called "Grand Prix" that would indicate a strong emphasis on racing.
I feel better about this today. I'm willing to give Retro the benefit of the doubt, but the mention about internal troubles and a project possibly getting canceled have me worried. Wish E3 was a lot closer.
