Just picked up my copy, and I need 7ish gigs for an update. I'm spent on internal storage because I just pre-loading Xenoblade Chronicles 2 the other day. Guess it's finally time to get an SD card for the system, held off as long as I could.

Trying out docked annnnd I'm not noticing a big difference visually over handheld mode. Can't see myself playing docked much at all.

Pro controller works well, and I dropped my smoothing down to 50. It does help with the responsiveness.

Played a round of multiplayer, it was pretty good although the room wasn't full.

Amazon UK screwed up big time. Mine still not dispatched and I have prime

Yeah, fuck amazon. They fucked up my order, so I cancelled it. Ordered from the game collection yesterday at 2pm. It arrived this morning via first class royal mail.

Got home an hour ago and played some of it. It's fucking amazing seeing this on a handheld. No, it doesn't stack up to playing it on a PC (what would?!) but as a handheld game this is by far the most impressed I've been in decades. I had some trouble with aiming via the right stick to begin with before realising less is more - got it spot on now

30fps is immediately noticeable to begin with - and yes, there's some framerate drops - but viewing it as a handheld game, it's phenomenal. I've stopped playing now as it's gonna be my work break game during the week!

Well, planning to buy a Switch once I have the money and one of the first Switch games I will be buying is DOOM. I want to be one of the gamers to show the game industry "Hey, look, gamers actually DO want current-gen AAA games on-the-go!!!" I hope both DOOM and Wolfenstein 2 are very successful for the Nintendo Switch so we could see more current-gen AAA games ported over to the Switch.

I don't care if I'm double dipping on both DOOM and Wolfenstein 2 (own both for PC), I want to play both on the go!!!

I played it briefly and I still can't believe it. Not only we're playing Doom on a Nintendo console, we're playing it on a portable one!

it's...kinda insane! I'm kinda expecting to wake up and realize it was all a dream.

As the game goes, this is my first time playing it and I'm already approaching enemies exactly how I used to in the original first two titles. Which is great, it looks like this new team really understood how to translate the old frenetic gameplay into a new generation. Can't wait to continue!

Awesome, I love hearing from classic DOOM fans playing the new DOOM for the first time. Keep the impressions coming!

I feel like doom will become one of the games you show to other people to say that you get full current gen console games on the go, and to look how small it is

Cant wait to try it! Downloading the 8gb required update atm, one hour to go zzz...

Also csnt beleive this is happening, it just incredible to see a game that was release last year on a high end console, and now were playing it in handheld one year later. The techonology transition have been quick!

Surprised how well it holds up visually, there are some noticeable cutbacks, but nothing I can't live without, especially considering it's a mobile platform. 30 fps is another point entirely, it's been a harder pill to swallow. With all the fast paced constant movement, it becomes very difficult to identify what anything is on the screen until you stop movement. It's a bit jarring coming from PC or other console versions. Overall, pleased with what we got but 30 fps still hurts.

Is there any kind of local multiplayer (co-op or vs) either local wan or splitscreen? Doubt the split screen, but figured I'd ask.

Apologies if this has already been asked but I was wondering how easy it is to play with friends in the online multiplayer? Can you have private matches or hook up with friends to play against random players?

Everything is immediately recognizable to me no matter how fast I'm moving. Framerate has no impact on the distinctive silhouettes, colors and movements of the enemy.

Do you have motion blur still on high? This is the default setting. I had the problem you had until I turned it down to low.

Thanks, turning that to low and chromatic thing, whatever it is, off and the image is much clearer. Insane I'm playing this on Switch right in handheld, Switch continues to blow my mind.

The problem is that the patch containing multiplayer also contains QOL fixes. So if you don't download the multiplayer you're also missing out on anything that they ever patch for the game.

This is really dissapointing.

So I need to download 9.1GB for multiplayer and then 8GB for a patch? That seems ridiculous when they promised the only download needed would be the MP and it would be optional.

Not being able to get patches if you don't do MP seems the opposite of optional

Are we sure the patch isn't both multiplayer and the updates?

Was pretty disappointed with how it looked undocked at first. Very blurry. That said, turning CA and Motion Blur off seemed to help it look a bit better.

Picked up my copy before teaching class today. Really like how it feels so far. It does look a little soft in portable mode, but so far it feels very good indeed. Playing it portable with a good set of headphones makes the violence and action seem different — more personal. It recontextualizes the game a bit, in a good way!

Seems to me the image softens in large outdoor areas. Maybe there's some heavy DOF going on there too. Along with the Martian dust and the "sunset" lighting, it creates a soft painterly sort of image. But the image sharpens a great deal once you're back inside, with a couple exceptions like the very first area where your character awakens.

I'm honestly enjoying this even more than I did on PS4 — and I loved the PS4 title so much that it was pretty much my GOTY.

With the Switch version, you can jump in and out so much quicker, and it just feels so immersive being able to cuddle up with this game like a good book anywhere in your house — an armchair in another room, in your study, in your bed. Of course, you can also take it outside, to the office, to a friend's house, to family.

It just feels so good to have this gargantuan masterpiece of a shooter on a handheld.

I've actually kept motion blur on because it tricks my brain into thinking it's a smoother framerate.

It's always gonna look fuzzy just due to the lower resolution but once you're in there ripping and tearing it's a grand old time.

I played a bit of Doom on portable before I went to work this morning... I was quite surprised how good it looked... softness aside, the place feels alive
I was roaming the Planet exterior, and fire and wind and sand look decent enough

Ugh.

I still can't get used to how this game's camera controls, even after turning down the motion blur as another poster had suggested.

Like, it feels SUPER imprecise and moves WAY too quickly by default. I might have to fiddle with the sensitivity settings later.

Very cool to see that the extra power from being Docked is tapped in.

The difference from games on Switch so far was mostly in resolution. Seeing better effects and textures means that Bethesda used it for something at least.

I will play my docked Switch in 720p mode for my mcable to see if it fairs any better...
but I could already tell the footage looked better than the initial Direct trailer suggested

I have tried many control options, buy my joycon seems to have a kind of deadzone.

Still love it, but it makes it a bit hard for me to aim. I will practice more :)

Motion Blur won't help with that.

You want to turn the smoothing down to reduce the reticle jerking around too quickly

Still having issues getting used to the controls coming from the PC version, but I guess that'll be the case on any console.

540p undocked? Woof.

Also kind of false advertising, since they claimed it was 720p docked and undocked. I already picked up my copy which I have yet to play, but man that is disappointing.

It's 720p ideal, but it scales dynamically based on load to keep the framerate steady. So yeah, in many places you aren't going to get full 720. It's fuzzy for sure, but the gameplay is there and it feels Like DOOM which is the most important thing. Ripping and tearing still feels good.

As I said earlier it seems to be around 720p when inside in smallish areas and then drops to 540p when outside in large areas. Switch off the motion blur and the CA and it looks better.

720p dynamic resolution... 720p at its highest, but can go as low as 540p in certain situations

No no, the patch includes the multiplayer. So about 8gb total. It's just it's all together in the patch, you can't separate multiplayer from regular patches.

Just picked mine up. Non preordered. Was in GameStop and was looking at the variety of games there on the switch shelf....so much difference from the Wii U shelf that just looked dead and kid like

So far I'm happy with this port! I've played about a couple of hours and once you get used to the joy cons and tweak the control settings a little it plays really well. I did notice some performance issues but they were by no means game-breaking and were brief.

One issue I do have though, is with multiplayer. I'm getting some serious graphical glitches along with rough performance.

etQJBrT.jpg

I'm not sure if there might be something wrong with my Switch or if the multiplayer is just really buggy at the moment.
