REVIEWS for the Switch version:

NintendoWorldReport 8.5

Kickstarter Backer update (Credit to Laserbeam ):

UPDATE 5/16

  • All physical copies have shipped

  • Our contact at THQ Nordic is working hard to get the codes. We're really sorry we missed launch day (obviously) and nothing is more important to us right now than getting the codes live.

PS: This thread was thrown together pretty haphazardly, so forgive the shotty quality. Also want to credit user KiraXD from the other place for some of the info in this Op.

Mod edit:
OT is for discussing the game. You may make a new thread about Switch pricing if you wish.

Glad its finally happening. I was pretty annoyed when they told the BAckers that it won't be too long between the other versions and the Switch version, which then ended up being 7 months -.- On the bright side, they threw in w few key for another version in for everyone, and I loved playing the game on Steam. Still looking forward to my Switch copy arriving soon, haven't used mine in ages...

I've been going back and forth for months trying to decide whether or not I should get this game on other consoles. I have no particular affinity towards my Switch, in fact I almost never play it anymore (I haven't since I got it back in December). For whatever reason, I feel far more interested in grabbing this on Switch than I do on any other console.

Is it particularly akin to any one game or series in it's gameplay style? Everything I saw of it made it look shallow (think Costume Quest-esque RPG), but the write-up here is the exact opposite. I'm actually far more interested an excited in it now!

It is a shame whats happening with the Kickstarter Backers. Glad they are getting out there and telling people whats going on, and also providing the extra keys atleast.

Cant wait to finally play it though! After Xenoblade, ive been wanting something to finally play on my Switch again.

Can't wait for my Amazon copy to ship. Tip for anyone new to the series, you can get the whole anthology on Google Play for $1.99:

I am a huge JRPG fan who knows nothing about the comics so I am trying to binge read them before the game comes.

Awesome! Ill post that in the Op right now!
Thats a much better price than the one I linked too in the Op lol.

Ill also throw in some reviews up there for the Switch version in a minute.

You should, BattleChasers is pretty cool if you like superhero (you can clearly see Joe's 90s MArvel roots) and fantasy comics. I only wish he would do more, would happily back a KS for him to continue the series.

This isn't specific to the Switch port, but does anyone remember JoeMad promising more issues of the comic? I thought that was happening, and was as stoked for that as the game itself.

I found myself let down by the game after some promising early moments. There's not much to do outside of battles that's interesting and those battles are only interesting when they're hard / long, which for a large swathe of the game is only the occasional boss fight.

It was also entirely too RNG and grindy when it came to levelling and equipping your characters, though I'm not sure if they ever patched those issues.

Game is pretty at least.

They did fix the grindiness and rng somewhat, yeah. For example, gear no longer has minimum levels, so when you find it, you can immedioately use it.

This game seems to be limited in physical form. No best buys in my area are carrying it and I had to rush out during lunch break to pick up a copy at the GS near it which is usually my last resort. Amazon allowed preorders but it didn't give me a delivery date, called and woman said June for next shipment.

Been wanting to play this game for so damn long, when I was ready to pick it up a switch version was announced so I decided to hold out a little bit which turned out to be almost a year extra wait. My copy has been shipped and arriving tomorrow morning, cannot wait to sit down and play this. Just my luck that I also have to see Deadpool 2 tomorrow so won't get much time with this. Weekend needs to get here ASAP.

Beautiful Province of Quebec.
Nice OT.I complained about the PS4 version a bit, even though I liked it a lot and the recent fixes adressed most of people's complaints, especially the non party members not gaining exp...with that fix,I recommend the game, perfect for the Switch as well...still cant beat that last Boss though lol but I havent tried since the changes...

I've watched a bit of some gameplay (game looks quite nice) and done a bit of searching to no avail. Is there a speed-up option for battles? The animations are very nice, but I can already tell they are going to drag the grind down pretty hard.

Yeah I got it from GS and I think they have a thing for pro to elite where you can get it a day early. On top of that no where near me allowed for pre-order pick up for Best Buy, but on the west coast you can pre-order for in-store pick up there.

Is there a substantial game/post-game in this one?

There is optional content:
- Optional Areas with optional bosses
- Optional "Hunt" enemies
- Ultimate Weapons with each one requiring different tasks
- Arena
- Secret World Map treasures
etc

Might be more stuff that I'm not remembering. But it's a decent amount to keep players hooked. Also, you can do all of this pre-final boss, so it's great.

Don't think so, unless they patched such an option later. Since I played on PC I used cheat engine's 2x speed, mainly for running around the world map and in dungeons. The speed didn't bother me in battles, so kept that at normal.

Oh I didnt know they fixed the party members not gaining XP thing! How did they address it? Some sort of XP share item? I know the latest update was supposed to fix a ton of the problems people had with the game. Luckily the Switch version is supposed to ship with it already too!

Yeah...your level 10 guy can equip the level 30 item you found in a dungeon for him, making it a lot easier to grind him up...

I'm OP famous! That's a thing, right?

I'm really looking forward to finally sinking my teeth into the game whenever it does finally arrive. I played the backers-only beta for a good dozen or so hours and really dug what I played. I actually have the game on Mac - the extra digital copy I got for my pledge tier - but I never truly sunk my teeth into it. I wanted to fully get experience the game for the first time on my desired platform rather than have already played the entire game.

Glad you noticed that lol. Thought I should atleast rep one of our own!

So, is this the best version now? Did they fixed the problems and bugs from the PS4 and Xbox One Version?

Stuff like the infinite loading screens, many crashes and corrupt save files were the worst problems. Even after many patches.

Also had some technical problems, like long loading times, skipped frames and sometimes graphical glitches.

I would buy the game again on Switch if they managed to fix most of that stuff.
And is it 60fps? Hope at least on battle screen.

Reading the reviews, it seems like the game has some framerate dips. Also, lengthy load times.

I've had this pre-ordered for a couple months now, still no sign Amazon US is going to ship it on time though :(

Thanks for the OT!

In Switch, there are only long load times when you enter dungeon / world map. There's no loading when moving between rooms. Battles occasionally have a short loading (5s at worst) but usually the first time you encounter an enemy type. 30FPS target.

I think my biggest complaint is that characters outside your party don't gain XP.

Quick question: For tomes that say "grants points to all heroes", does it also apply to people outside the party?

I've been enjoying the game so far and I'm Lv13 ish at the moment. I'm wondering what's up with the wild difficulty swings in combat. One fight I'm smashing Lv6 enemies, the next suddenly I'm holding on for dear life against a triple Lv14 team.

What are your guys recommended party compositions that have played the game already? Really want to try out Alumon on my team, just not sure what roles some of the later game party members are like him.
