I'm buying this based on fanboy tears alone.

Your "fucking Donkey Kong!," "fucking Star Fox Racing!" will only make Retro stronger! They'll continue to subvert expectations and release games that "nobody wants" that mysteriously sell very well.

Well, that doesn't inspire confidence ...

I do like the sound of the game, though.
Yeah... from the Game Informer snippet:

Rumors of the game have been swirling for several months in light of talk from some sources that Retro Studios' title has been struggling, with many at both Retro and Nintendo growing frustrated with the state of the project. These sources did not confirm whether the project being worked on was this Star Fox title.Rumors of the game have been swirling for several months in light of talk from some sources that Retro Studios' title has been struggling, with many at both Retro and Nintendo growing frustrated with the state of the project. Does Eurogamer actually ever break any rumours? I always feel like they say they've heard the same 'from their sources' after a rumour has come out elsewhere.

Star Fox is silly enough to get away with this too, it actually seems like a good fit the more I think about it. If it had been Metroid Racing, that may have been another issue.

Let the space animals race!

I really enjoy F-zero characters and their goofiness :(
And the music of the racing tracks on f-zero games not called GX.

F-Zero never sold well outside the first entry. The audience is a lot smaller than online fan hype would suggest. A Star Fox racing game with it's own unique mechanics stands a better chance of cultivating an audience than a dormant racing franchise that had multiple chances to do the same in its time.

Not true. Super nes, maximum velocity and X all sold more than a million.

If GX bombed is the same why Tropical Freeze bombed, they were in dead consoles. Release a game similar to GX on the first months of the switch and the public will be there. They were there for FAST (I was there and discovered that I like the way f-zero controls, the characters, and the music too much for FAST to actually scratch the itch I have for a real f.zero game).

EDIT, saw you were corrected already.

I prefer it to be a story with enemies attacking planets like every star fox and you all going out in your arwings being a cooperative mode and a lets see who is the best and ranks better at the same time.
How about Star Fox crew inflitrating a crazy interstellar racing organization that holds insane interplanetary death races, complete with hazards and enemies for thrills and excitement.

The most interesting part about this is the rumors about retro struggling with the development of the game (whatever game it is).

Now that is a reason to panic

Wait, didnt something similar happen to metroid prime? maybe its too early to panic
Newsflash, every studio struggle when switching genres or working on new ip until they usually figure it out. This is game development in a nutshell.

Star fox and f zero fans were once allies when both series were equally dead and then star fox seemed to die again after the critical and financial failure of star fox zero, it's a shame.

If thats done well, then its a similar idea, and im in. Also would be cool if Andross (or whatever main enemy in the game) attacked the champioship in story mode to create more chaos or whatever.

Well, depends on what you consider cause for concern, since Nintendo fired half of the team at Retro and cancelled every other project so that everyone still around could focus 100% on Prime.

I don't know. Star Fox still sells poorly too and it can get backlash for not being F-Zero.

There will only be a significant backlash if the game doesn't look awesome and since it's going to look awesome, things will be fine.

If this is bombs in sales, much like the last Star Fox, it will be quite entertaining.

This fascination with wanting things to fail is something I will never understand from some of you. Incredibly toxic.

While I love most of these versions of the characters, Nintendo REAAAALLLY needs to go back to the Melee design for Fox. It's easily the best one
I feel the exact opposite. The Melee design is AWFUL. And that's not hyperbole. Melee Fox looks like an evil, derpy Corgi, his proportions are really weird, his eyes look soulless, his coloring is ugly, those gloves are just... wtf. His design doesn't fit the character at all and barely resembles any version of Fox from his games.

That's because the game versions look like ducks. Long snout > stubby snout

I personally liked the character design in Zero. It wasn't amazing or groundbreaking but it was good imo.

However I hope Retro gets their own take on character design for this, I don't want them using any past incarnations as more than rough inspiration.

You can refuse to make a new f-zero, Nintendo, but F-Zero GX still puts to shame all the racing games you've made since then... ;_;
