Film premiers at Cannes (today, I believe), so we should hopefully see some impressions soon.

The trailer doesn't look like an easier watch than any of Von Trier's work, but the performance from Matt Dillon looks incredible.. If you've seen any of his past films, you already know if this is something you're in line for, or avoiding altogether.

Lars Von Trier films are beautiful films to watch, and they make me disgusted with myself for watching them.

That looks great and Matt Dillon as a serial killer is an inspired choice. He always had that Jeffrey Dhamer/Richard Ramierez creepy but handsome vibe that probably helped get him this role.

Yeah, I'm going to have to watch this. I'm behind on von Trier, I haven't seen his last few movies.

I'll definitely see this. I loved Antichrist and although I didn't love nymphomaniac, it was interesting.

Jeez.

Think I'm becoming a softie as I get older, stuff like Von Trier is a bit too much for me these days. As soon as he smashed Uma in the face it was like "nah, I'm out".

I'm with you. I was out once the kid was in the cross hair.
The colder and sterile violence is shot, the more it gets me.

I want to see it, I have seen most of his films but I need to see it during the day
when I can be less entranced by it.

Von Trier is an amazing filmmaker, but it's hard for me to get excited to see his films. Every one that I've seen has made me feel ill. Even still, I'll keep an eye on this one.

This looks dope. Gonna be a hard watch tho. Dudes movies have always been pretty sadistic and mean spirited. Now his focus on a serial killer exclusively....God damn its gonna be pure evil

Matt Dillon was smart casting for the killer

Okay, this looks terrific. Little too long of a trailer in terms of showing full on sections of dialogue/monologue.

Most anticipated film of the year for me, so I'm not even touching that trailer. Taking y'all word that it looks good.

Just saw the movie.

It was the most disgusting thing I've seen in the theater (and I bet Lars von Trier would be proud). It's suffering and torture, a pure troll movie.

One person left during the first half.

I want to watch this so bad. Breaking the Waves is probably the only movie that fucked me up so bad I couldn't stop thinking about it days after watching it. Second only to Thomas Vinterberg's The Hunt. This guy is a genius at making people feel awful.
Plus serial killers are always interesting.

I understand that Lars Von Trier wishes to be provocative. However his Dillon character's profound happiness and gratitude for God's convenient evidence destroying rainstorm seems like a perfect metaphor for the international and Hollywood community continuing to enable his focus on torturing and debating women, and I'm shocked that Uma Thurman in particular has fallen for his sophomore art school outrage. Her recent refutal of Tarantino's process seemed clear headed.

He's literally using Matt Dillon as a puppet avatar to flip his finger with long unsubtle monologs at less credulous critics and mainstream audiences.

The flashbacks to Matt's childhood might as well be highlights of Trier's own filmography.

At least Gaspar Noe has more than one note of charnel crudity. And tries to make his films beautiful instead of ugly.

I'll give it a chance but I am exhausted by his ever shallower antics.

Can you elaborate on that? You're talking about the fact that a lot of his films have female protagonists that go through horrible shit or did I miss something? I only watched Breaking the Waves, Melancholia and Antichrist to be frank

I love Noé so I was a bit sad that he loved THTJB (he said he found it really funny) although I'm not really surprised.

Climax was an enjoyable experience while THTJB felt like the director really hates life and made the movie with bad intentions.

Edit: lol it's not Matt Damon

My autocorrect keeps switching it. Which feels like low key shade at his career.
