Throw me in with the F-Zero crowd. Everyone and their mother had that game on SNES, it's a good property to rebuild and is already established in the genre. When people think Starfox they don't think racing game like they do with F-Zero

Ironically, if you said this game was developed by a different team they would be losing their minds. For some reason people think Retro making this is the end of the world; people think they should be doing something larger in scale.

To me. Retro making this almost guarantees the concept will be fully realized and amazing.
But that would just be rational.

Plus they did a fine job with Mario Kart 7.

The only thing i don't understand how it's possible that they worked the past 4 years on what it may look like a low effort side project.

Let's wait and see how it looks before throwing stuff like this out.

Going through this thread, I can't help but wonder what the reaction to Diddy Kong Racing was when it was first announced back in the day... If it's anything like this thread though, I have to imagine it was something like this:

"WTF, Rare? A DK racing game? That makes no sense at all! What a waste of their talents! Why not just make an F-Zero game or something instead if that's what they wanted to do? Why throw Diddy into a go-kart, when we already have Mario Kart?

Where's Donkey Kong Country 4? Where's a new BATTLETOADS game? That'd be way better than this nonsense, guaranteed. I can't believe Rare has lowered themselves to this. What in the world is happening..."

But then it actually became it, it was brilliant, and Rare, as it turned out, did know what they were doing.

If this is indeed real, I imagine that crow will be had in quite a similar fashion. Can't just a book by it's cover and all that.

That aside, it also just amuses me how much people care about which skin the game wears. I mean, I get it, I get it. I'd love to see a new F-Zero as well, a new Diddy Kong Racing would also be great, and I'd love to see a new Star Fox in the mold of Stat Fox 64. Those would all be great, and cool things to see, but if this is real, I'm sure it will be as well, and that's all that matters in the end, whether it's good or not, so I'm totally down.

I love the "blame Miyamoto" notion going on here. Koizumi and Takahashi are in charge of software now.

>"like Diddy Kong Racing mixed with F-Zero"
>Using Star Fox series/universe instead of one of those.

I mean, come on, if they gonna make a racer in the F-Zero style, why not use the F-Zero franchise?

Yikes @ the reactions here. This sounds fresh and new to me. Bring it on.

And If this turns out to be real & a good game this will be a fun thread to come back to.

This actually sounds pretty good, to be honest. More differentiated from Mario Kart than DKR was, a bit more accessible than a new F-Zero (as much as I want a successor to GX), and the combination of flying and land vehicles could make things interesting. Sign me up.

I think this could work. Especially if the tracks or worlds have branching paths, tons of secrets, and a robust story mode.

If this game is real then I greatly look forward to the crow that will be served at E3.

A StarFox-themed take on Diddy Kong Racing could be amazing, and with Retro developing? Virtually guaranteed to be a superb game.

The perfect game would be a third person shoooter of metroid vs star fox.

Something like a Avengers movie. But nintendo would never do that.

Still hoping nintendo has some M rated game plans from one of their studios at some point. Retro seemed like a good fit to make a new Eternal Darkness or something that isn't the typical norm from nintendo to start branching out a bit.

I didn't know about this

Fox was despondent. Star Wolf had taken from him everything that he loved. Falco's attempts to comfort his old friend were futile. Fox lived as one already dead, barely eating or sleeping. But then Falco had an idea that changed everything… Falco had a brainstorm: retire as pilots and engineer their Arwings into racing machines. They would enter the high-speed world of G-Zero Grand Prix racing! When Falco saw excitement return to his friend's face, relief coursed through him. Fox and Falco turned out to be a great G-Zero team. Winning race after race, they become household names across a countless number of planetary systems. Their days as part of Star Fox faded to a distant memory…The Curse of Pigma Ending

People been asking for F-Zero when they didn't know they wanted G-Zero

You're comparing direct words of a developer to a rumor from an inside source.

At this point i would like to see a video of Miyamoto saying that Pikmin 4 is ready, because he said it only during interviews with Eurogamer, i'm not sure if i should believe them.

Or maybe he really said it but the project was scrapped or they are working on something else, i don't know, but it's very weird that every year Miyamoto has been saying this at E3.

This is terrible just terrible. It sounds just as bad as the Mario + Rabbids leak. And that turn out...well fantastic. This could be awesome. So may people jump to the worst case scenario before we know more. This sounds like it could be unique and fun if true. Can't wait for E3. One thing we know is that whatever Retro is working on it will be the best game they can make, which is usually pretty awesome.

I can roll with it, especially since that's not keeping the game from having classic segments(or even mini recreations of other games)... if it's real

Well they're trying to revive the franchise so, kudos to that. If Retro is making a starfox game i wonder if F-zero will be next.

Are they still good though?

I'm sure they are, its not something I would be overly concerned with. I just posted what I originally did because so many posters seem upset that the people that made Metroid and Donkey Kong are now making (presumably) something like this. Well the simple answer is that a lot of this team isn't the same people that made those games anyways.

Its somewhat similar to Bungie. The people that made Halo aren't really the same people by and large that are making Destiny. Same studio, but a much different team.

Nintendo doesn't make that type of game anymore and never will again, they leave that to third parties.

There is definitely a "Retro cycle" where they reveal something, everyone melts down about it, and then the game turns out to be amazing. Especially so with Metroid Prime and DKCTF. I don't care too much what they're working on because the end result is probably going to be great.

I don't get it. Why not make a Nintendo all star racing with a wider variety of characters and worlds instead of restricting the game to the star fox universe?

Just letting you all know, the size of this topic was making me a believer at first. But now that I'm digging into it and getting the facts straight, this whole thing could easily be fake. Multiple sources are reporting it because it's an internet bubble right? I'm not seeing definitive proof yet.

I'm not sure why so much of ERA is surprised with a franchise attempting to reinvent the wheel when the Switch has literally been all about that since its inception. Both in terms of hardware and software. Like, where have you been the past year and a half?

Are you saying that the on-rails shooters were never good?

I am saying that they have been trying all sorts of things with Starfox, and nothing has really been super successful, nor has anything been consistently successful.

Therefore i dont think that On Rails shooter has to be the definitive genre for Starfox, if they make this Racing game and it sells 10+ million copies i would say Racing is a good fit for Starfox.

For me for example, the first Starfox game i played was Starfox Adventure, which has little to nothing to do with On rails shooters.
