I get we all want new Metroid stuff, but Retro's work on DKC is phenomenal. They're some of the best platformers of the past decade.

I want new stuff period. Doesn't have to be Metroid. Nintendo has more than enough 2D platformers so having Retro retread on genres that are existing while no longer making genres/types of games that they alone made for Nintendo is underwhelming and feels like a waste of potential

Racing doesn't seem that different from what Starfox is. I imagine this could be amazing gameplay. Having to decide when to use boost to fly through a tight squeeze as a structure is collapsing. Being able to shoot through barriers and enemies. Maybe even use weapons on other racers. Throw in a bunch of graphical and musical pizazz with fun characters and I'm there day one.
Plus throw in Captain Falcon and his mates. Maybe even make it break off from a Smash Bros trailer or something and I'd die.

Also, did something happen between like pages 5-15 to make people accept this is legit? I'm not sure when we started believing EG rumors and 4chan logos...

That said, I wouldn't be THAT mad about this, especially if its 1 of 2 Retro projects. We'll see. Getting into that pre-e3 silly season.

the situation has absolutely nothing to do with FF except for the crazy and anxious people
It's not quite the same, but yes it is similar. Federation Force was a spinoff to a series that couldn't get a damn good title in forever.

Same thing with Star Fox. The series is completely lost and we're getting a spinoff...

The game that no-one asked. Goddamn Ninty just give Retro some ambitious project, they have always delivered!

If this is real then I expect a headline in a year's time about how it started as F-Zero or an original IP, but then weapons and flying into space made it into Star Fox since someone at Nintendo thought that fit that IP more

I mean in theory its awesome, you give an amazing studio like Retro, overflowing with talent the Star Fox IP. You give them the mission to make a game that gives F-Zero and Diddy Kong Racing combined. The problem is, in my opinion that even if they straight off ripped F-Zero for example, the F-Zero fanbase would still be clamouring for a new title in the franchise because Star Fox isn't the same thing.

I'll however say that this game will probably be very fun and one of the more well made games on the Switch thanks to Retros talent, and I dislike Star Fox and his cast in everything from his own games to Smash.

Isn't there some level of F-Zero/Star Fox universal overlap or something?

I mean.... if they lean heavily into that and we basically get a Star Fox / F Zero cross over then.... good? I guess? Star Fox certainly has more cache than F Zero does in the long run.

Basically.

My favorite part of this is how Liam Robertson swore he wasn't teasing anything last week with that tiny Star Fox picture on his Twitter profile.

Hot take but both Star Fox and F-Zero were never good and if this is true I'm glad Retro is doing something totally different with Star Fox. If F-Zero gets rebooted I hope it's more than just a racing game.

I really hope not.
- I didn't like Diddy Kong Racing. (i really like mario kart games)
- Starfox last good game was starfox 64 (adventure was a zelda spinoff that was avg)
- This doesnt seem to be a game where they need to work more than 5 years on.

Yet, maybe it's something total diff that we know, so i will see if :
- it's true
- something totally new

But for now, hype level 0

Star Fox crew gotta make some money in an era of peace

Sounds weird, but I'm kinda down with this. I figure the Star Fox crew, Star Wolf crew and the likes of Bill and Kat would be playable racers, but who else? Fay and Miyu? Several SF64 bosses? The weird looking Star Fox Command offspring?

This is not what i expected Retro studios to be. There's already many and competent platformer games with Nintendo, there's already arcade racers, one of the best of all time we just got a year ago.
In the non PC only space, no there isn't? There are actually regular threads on a lack of racers in general that aren't simulators.

Both, and I actually think part of the appeal with this game will be the seamless transition between the two.

Imagine a full-on Lylat circuit where you travel through a checkpoint on each planet in the system. And that's one single, seamless race.

Fuck, that would be amazing.

I've always thought Nintendo could easily support two arcadey, kartesque racers. Mario Kart 8 is amazing, but I wouldn't mind a different spin on the genre. I've wanted a DKR2 since the N64 days. Diddy didn't even get into MK8 how messed up is that?

That said I'm still not buying this rumor until I see it with my own eyes.

It would be a nice setup to have a lot of the Nintendo cast in both of these racers depending on which one the character is more thematically appropriate for. E.g Samus and Captain Falcon in in Star Fox whereas Link and Zelda in Mario Kart.

Sounds awesome. Also, maybe it'll feature music by David Wise. He scored both Diddy Kong Racing and Star Fox Adventures.

Look.... im not hating

Just when i think of what makes me hungry when it comes to Star Fox... especially after the last game... i think racing wouldn't have even made the list lol

Whatever man Retro clearly has something in their heads for this and its not like they make bad games

Im just not sure if im interested in an amazing Star Fox racing experience

In a weird headspace with this one right now but I can see people loving it

Uhhhh.......can they put some DKR characters in it? Not that I don't like Star Fox but.......

They kind of exist in the same universe anyway and Diddy's not even in MK8D. Do it Retro, cross over all the things!

I can see where you're coming from but this is an enthusiast site about games.

Gaming news, discussions, announcements, topics in the industry, and friendly communities. Talk about the greatest entertainment medium there is.

When I don't want to hear about certain TV/movies I stay off Twitter or entertainment sites when trailers drop or in the final lead up to release. If you want to stay "spoiler free" for E3 then I recommend not following web pages dedicated to game news in the month leading up to the show. Burying credible leaks and rumors in a "spoiler" thread defeats the purpose of this being a site for game news.

And regardless of the game being heavily rumored/leaked or not I'm sure you'll get plenty of overreaction videos in response to it.

I gotta say though, whether this is real or not, made by Retro or not....

The idea of taking Star Fox, a franchise which has largely been rehashing SF64 gameplay for two decades, making it a racing game with some huge stages, combat, adventure mode, some open ended-ness could be a real ideal way of taking some of the things that made starfox great and updating them to be enjoyed in modern day.

it's not similar in the slightest, FF was a mainline title released by a not particularly well known developer in a franchise that was near-perfect for the last decade and as such, was a disappointment because people wanted a better new entry on a better hardware than the 3DS

this game will release on a better hardware (the switch), is ressurecting a genre that people are begging since years to make a comeback (f-zero style futuristic racing), is made by one of the greatest developers in the world and it's not like people were still hoping for a new arcade starfox game with how zero did

You're right, Pokemon Stars was dope.

I hope you like to play with your stationary home-console switch that isn't a portable like eurogamer leaked

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Retro's second game doesn't exist or it's just a port of Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Idk why Nintendo doesn't just let them make an adventure game, are they just incapable or unwilling?

*ASSUMING any of this is true*

I mentioned that too earlier in the thread which was why I initially doubted the rumor but on further thought I'm thinking he was probably covering his bases in case the rumor turned out to be false (someone pointed out that Emily Rogers wasn't too sure about it but I can't say I got that impression from her wording). Or just predicting that we'd be hearing about the rumor soon.

Ill believe it when I see it, sounds like a horrible idea on paper, yet Retro is god, so if they do something like this, it must be something good.

I love it because it was one of the endings to Star Fox Command, and the one I was most interested in.

This thread is basically:

- Make it F-Zero
- Federation Force situation
- We didn't ask for this
- This is not what I want from Star Fox

Based on absolutely 0 information, 0 images, 0 footage, 100% rumor. Era, please.

It's funny since this is the kind of game that I would have expected someone like Monster Games to work on.

And it would be even funnier if MG eventually finishes the DKCR trilogy.

Well, one difference is that the Metroid main series is fucking fantastic and we hadn't gotten a "good" one since Prime 3

Star Fox main series is an absolute shitshow and this could be exactly what it needs

The Retro cycle

*announcement*
"This is TERRIBLE. What a waste of talent on this dumb, awful, stupid idea. Ridiculous. Now we have to wait ten more years for a REAL game. Nobody wants this."

*release*
"Retro has done it again, shaping one of the finest games in its genre. I can't believe how incredible this is. But I always had faith. Retro forever."

lmao

To be fair I think a lot of people who love Tropical Freeze were championing the game at its reveal.

Also Retro doing a racing game would play to a lot of their strengths. The level design of the tracks in combination with the art direction would easily be top class in the racing genre.
