Is child Gohan the greatest child character in fiction?

Lit students are like DBZ scouters. You can't possibly hope to analyze the true awesomeness of child Gohan :p
Gon is a great character. He's basically Kid Goku.What? Greatest child character in fiction? He's not even the best kid in Dragon Ball, let alone in anime/manga or in overall fiction.
I don´t think so. That said, and even if his inability to replace Goku as the proper protagonist after the Cell saga was one of the key factors which IMHO took Dragon Ball out of its prime (I still believe it should have ended there), I was always very interested in his evolution. He was, both as a character and in-fiction, full of promise and potential but couldn´t ultimately reach a sustained greatness: against most expectations he still somewhat failed, in some way or another, at every supposedly defining moment.

You could cut One Piece by 300 chapters and it'd be better off for it.
He's not even the best child in animation, or anime, or even his own series (OG goku would be that).
I think just on the top of my head, Midoriya is better than him, and that's just modern anime.
Go to animation, and from recent western series i think Steven Universe is better at this point.
I don't think Gohan can go toe to toe with heavier hitters from all media.
That said, Kid Gohan always was awesome.

I watched Super, he's still a bitch, Kid Gohan was stronger than his father...
Gohan gets a great win in the Tournament preliminary fights, outlasts over 90% of the Tournament of Power field, gets some legit eliminations, fights so well even Frieza admits he's pretty good, and his whole "work together as a team" mindset he was preaching before the tournament started is what ends up giving Universe 7 the win. But he's still a bitch.

I didn't like gohan as a kid. His innate power level shat all over Goku's trials and development in Dragon Ball, all of the characters in fact. I'll never agree with Toriyama's decision to turn DB into a super hero story after the Piccolo arc.

As a character Adult Gohan > Kid Gohan but a mile.
Adult Gohan actually has a personality and the whole idea that he slacked off and didn't stay uber powerful during an era of peace makes him actually interesting. Kid Gohan is a boring audience self-insert character who is a glorified background character for most of Dragon Ball until he needs to get angry and be an asspull to bail someone out of trouble.

Nah, but Piccolo becoming his surrogate father was pretty neat though, given the way he was in late-Dragonball.
Too bad they ended up ruining that.

We live in a world with The Little Prince, Little Nemo , Calvin, Charlie Brown, Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Anne of Green Gables, Peter Pevensie , Alice, Harry Potter, Dorthy Gale, Peter Pan, Matilda Wormwood, Romona Quimby, Henry Huggins, Arya Stark, Wednesday Addams, Nancy Drew, Joe and Frank Hardy, Arthur, Nesthäkchen, Ralph..... and someone takes time out of their day, moments out of their limited life span to say that "Goku" is the greatest child character not in DB noooo, not even in manga noooooooo...but in all of fiction.
