Anyone think this could come out in 2019?
Even if it's reusing the Xenoblade X/Xenoblade 2 engine, it sounds like the gameplay could be substantially different from Xenoblade titles so it might take some time for the devs to put together the new combat system. New IPs also generally need more time in the oven than sequels (assuming it doesn't get a "Xeno____" name later in development anyway).

I could maybe see an announcement in mid-late 2019, but I don't think it'll release until 2020 at the earliest.

It's the first game in the series to come out on relevant hardware with no retailer or region-exclusive shenanigans. It would've done just as well without the pandering nonsense.
At the time it came out, there would have been no hope for it to do exceptionally well. Hardcore titles on the Wii died off

That's what I'm saying, yeah. By the time XC came out on the Wii, hardcore games had already stopped selling.

This is the first Xenoblade game in the series to be released on hardware where people were hungry for games and marketed/released appropriately. It's the first Xeno launch Nintendo hasn't botched in some way.

I'd say Xenoblade X, but that was on the Wii u. A switch port would easily sell better

They're not recruiting for an action game, they are recruiting people with action game experience. It's the SAME thing that they have been recruiting for since they announced this project. They never said it's an action game, but that they are looking for people with action game experience (because this is something Monolithsoft specifically lacks). What is new today is that they are pushing harder for recruitment, which suggests they are prepared to go into full production and want the vacancies filled asap. That's all. There is no new information about the project itself in the recruitment details compared to before.

So it's has proper Action combat? Like not just Xenoblade MMO type combat?

Cause this shit would make me infinitely more hype
Yes. This isn't new though. It has been known since they announced this project. They are looking for battle programmers and battle designers who have experience in action games, especially in regards to a responsive player character. Certainly sounds like they want to attempt something that plays more like Souls than PSO or Diablo this time.

Angola / Zaire border region.
A straight action RPG would be so awesome and a very welcome addition into Nintendo's stable of first-party IP. I loved the world and characters of Xenoblade 2 but just didn't enjoy the gameplay... so personally I'm happy the studio seems to be pivoting in this direction.

Yeah, Ive been thinking it'll likely be an RPG with a more action-based combat system since the initial recruitment page went up last year.

By the way, do Takahashi's comments in the conversation with Hashino make you think this is Takahashi's next project?

It definitely is Takahashi's next project, I mean he said "He beat me to it!" Feels like something Takahashi himself wants to create and he can't wait for it.

Probably. Especially with Takahashi saying he wants to make a more hardcore fantasy game next compared to Xenoblade 1 and 2 which he called "fake fantasy." I just remember people speculating about whether Monolith Soft Tokyo would remain as two separate dev teams following the Xenoblade X team getting split up for Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade 2, with the Breath of the Wild support team working on the medieval fantasy project and the core Xenoblade 2 team working on another Xenoblade title, or if both teams would merge back together for the medieval fantasy project.

With the confirmation of Takahashi working on this new project, it completely rules out a new Xenoblade game before this project.

Assuming the game is in pre-production or has just started development I have a feeling this will be a 2021 game.

Yeah, and it can perfectly work like some other games where Takahashi is a supervisor on Xenoblade but not a director. Like Kamiya did for Bayonetta 2, or similar.

An action RPG is a pretty safe bet at this point. Hope is released in 2019.

Also, I see that some people keep downplaying the success of XC2 because of things like the artstyle without realizing that such aesthetic actually makes it much, MUCH more appealing for the mass audience than any other entry in the series based on the praise the cast gets in terms of art and stuff like that (something that never happened before). The anime style sells like it or not.

Speaking about XCX for the Switch, it probably will sell better than the original but not by much. I don't know why people keep forgetting of the bad word of mouth the game got after release in Japan and other places due to the restrictive nature of its gameplay and how it wasn't in the same vein as the same XC (which cut its legs quite a bit even by WiiU standards). Not to mention the underwhelming cast (Elma notwithstanding) and completely nauseating characters like Tatsu and Lin. I really hope it gets ported so they can fix some of the most gamebreaking issues but not expecting much in terms of sales.

I don't remember where I heard this, but I remember hearing that X was originally going to drop arts and go for full blown action, but they decided against it. Takahashi often talked about how X was "building up the foundation" for Xeno games that followed, because it was the first HD title. I think similar to that, even if the new game isn't Xeno, it will lay out the foundation for X2 to go in a more actiony (or full action) direction.

Just a reminder of the concept art:

I always think about this art, and can´t help but dream about how beautiful the world for a game based on these could be. Let's wait and see what they do.

FYI, that concept art you posted is likely to not be for this game. The other two pics were posted in recruitment ads for it, while this one was posted in a generic recruitment ad for, I believe, Monolith's Kyoto studio.

I hope whatever comes next continues to leverage the talent of guys and gals in the UK. I think they really give both XC games a unique flavour.

Drop the anime look, the waifus, the intrusive hud, the overcomplicated systems and maybe I'll be interested in this.

I just hope it's not too action-y. My reflexes suck. Over/under on this game prompting tons of driveby shitposts upon reveal? I'd give it a 95% chance at this point. u_u;

Monolith Soft posted a new interview on their site. I believe they're talking about this project in the last segment of the interview. Google Translate is pure nonsense as usual... Is there anyone willing to take precious time out of their life to translate it? Pretty please!

No they're not. The interview has nothing to do with any unannounced projects, it's just members from the BotW and XB2 teams talking about themselves and working at Monolithsoft as part of ongoing staff interviews to help recruitment efforts.

Figures! I wish Monolith Soft would provide English translation for all of their interviews. I'm sure there are some interesting insights in these interviews.

Thanks for summing it up.

The only thing in the interview that could remotely relate to the new project, and this is just my opinion, is that Hiroshi Ando might be working on the new game in some capacity. In terms of personal ambition, he says that he came from a background of working on action and fighting titles and he likes action games the best himself, so one day he would like to make a Monolithsoft style original action game. I believe Ando previously worked at both Namco and Square Enix previously.

*sigh*

Another action based battle system. I wish Monolithsoft would do another turn based game. I haven't liked a single game they've released since Xenosaga Episode III.

Do we know what "team" is working on this game? The BotW one or XB2 one?
