Tacoma is a narrative adventure set aboard a high-tech space station in the year 2088. As you go about your mission, you'll explore every detail of how the station's crew lived and worked, finding the clues that add up to a gripping story of trust, fear, and resolve in the face of disaster.

At the heart of Tacoma is the facility's digital surveillance system, which has captured 3D recordings of pivotal moments in the crew's life on the station. As you explore, echoes of these captured moments surround you. You'll use your ability to rewind, fast-forward, and move through the physical space of these complex, interwoven scenes to examine events from every angle, reconstructing the multi-layered narrative as you explore.

A Richly Layered Story Experience:
Six crewmembers lived and worked on space station Tacoma, forming relationships, experiencing love and loss, and facing crisis together. Discover not just what happened to these people, but what makes them who they are, through your role as an interactive investigator. The story is told through a series of fully voiced and animated interactive AR scenes, immersing you in the events on Tacoma.

A Groundbreaking Multi-Path Story System:
In each section of the station, you are surrounded by digital representations of crew members following their own parallel story threads that diverge, recombine, and split off again. Rewind, fast-forward, and move through these scenes' chronologies as they swirl around you. Your interactive tools allow you to discover the tightly-knotted narrative from every angle, and in every detail.

A Deeply Interactive Gameworld:
Explore Tacoma Station both physically and digitally. Unlock doors and drawers to find meaningful objects, notes, and physical artifacts, while simultaneously exploring extensive records of the crew's digital communications and personal thoughts. Every facet of the crew's experience on Tacoma is part of your investigation.

A Vision of the Future:
Experience life in the year 2088. Discover a rich fictional universe that depicts humanity's expansion into low-Earth orbit and beyond. A deeply-imagined speculative vision of the near future from the award-winning story team behind Gone Home and BioShock 2: Minerva's Den.

A Compact Narrative Game:
Tacoma is estimated to take around 2 to 5 hours to complete. How deep you dig and how much detail you find is up to you. Tacoma is a non-combat, non-puzzle-focused game. The details of the story and gameworld are there for you to discover at your own pace.

This is a repost of my original OT for the game, redesigned to get rid of the artwork from the early build of the game, pre-direction change. Just realized nobody made a new OT for the PS4 release and it's just criminal how overlooked this game still is, despite being unabashedly brilliant in its implementation of the rewind mechanic for what used to be a pretty mechanically stale and simplistic genre.

oh and its story is pretty good, too, you know.

Thanks for the OT. I'll be buying the game tonight on PS4. It's on sale right now so it's as good a time as any to jump in. Hopefully the story is up there with the likes of Edith Finch, SOMA, and Firewatch, as those are my favorites of the genre.

It's still unavailable on Polish PSN Store. I've asked some higher-ups about it on Twitter, but it's weekend so no response yet. I wonder what is the reason behind delay?

I've added a bunch more articles, interviews and videos to the OP. That's a nice thing about doing an (updated OT) for a previously released game, you add stuff like that!

Same for the Austrian store. Super weird why they didn't release globally. Maybe the person at fullbright releasing it in the psn admin console fucked up?

I've got to get this on the XB1X soon. I didn't know it had both a 4k/30fps and a 1080p/60fps mode. I might try both on different playthroughs.

Thanks for the confirmation. The devs from Rebel Galaxy had similar issues when they launched their game.

Age rating? Depending whether it's playable on the big TV surrounded by my family or not, would determine if I get on PS4 or pc

I played and finished Tacoma. I would say its OK but not great. Here is my mini-review:

How is it for
- People who like sci-fi stories
- People who like interactive stories (AKA walking simulator)
- People who are centrists or lefties

The good
- The graphics
- The characters
- Controls (standard FPS controls without the shooting)

What was OK
- The story. I felt like I have seen the story else ware and it was not very original or interesting.

What needs improvements
- A lot of the achievements (and I assume trophies) were bad. 400 out of 1000 points were for doing things which were not fun. They also were for collecting things or non-core game play. A good example is the Spell check achievement were you get points for fixing a misspelling. Really?

Just played through this for the first time and had a lot of fun. It's short but really interesting. Got the platinum trophy without too much fuss.

I have this thanks to a recent monthly humble bundle. I would like to play it soon, hope it's much better than Gone Home though.

Not sure I see it. Where has a story like that dealing with issues like these been done before in games?!

I am just quoting you here, because you have obviously completed the game!

I love games like Dear Esther, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Firewatch and Gone Home, but I am often disappointed that there is virtually zero replay value in all of the above.

Does Tacoma break away from these usual conventions and offers a reason to go back through the story again, or is it very much a one-off experience?

It is currently £12 on the PlayStation Store, and it seems like a fairly reasonable price.

None. That's an inherent part of the genre basically. If you want replay value, you'll always end up disappointed with walking sims.

Technically, game design wise it is a huge leap above Gone Home. Story is hugely subjective so YMMV, obviously.

Ah, fair enough...

It was a bit of a long shot, but I just wished to politely ask you anyway.

I think I shall buy this another time, seeing as I have got Detroit: Become Human on the way next week.

How does Tacoma stand up to Soma story-wise?

Whilst I haven't played Tacoma (yet), I doubt the story of SOMA will be topped anytime soon. I still have goosebumps at the thought of that closing scene of the game...

Branching-path-dialogue-choice-based games (Telltale stuff, Quantic Dream stuff, Visual Novels) seem to be more what you're looking for in that regard, yea.

thanks for the heads up. I won't watch it but I might actually give Tacoma a try on PS4.

There's no crazy wild thrillride of a sci-fi/AI story in Tacoma. Fullbright's games are always very down-to-earth (please ignore the irony) stories about people living their lives in a world that is trying to make that hard for them, this one just happens to be set on a futuristic space station.

Still unavailable in Poland... c'mon guys! You can do it:)
I loved Gone Home - it was one of the biggest surprises of PS+ lineup and now I just want to support Tacoma's newer project.

Glad to know and I actually enjoy sci-fi stories quite a lot, so I'll go ahead and install it today :)

This game was pretty average. I enjoyed Gone Home more (mainly coz the house was a more interesting space to explore). Though I preferred that this one has more story bits, and less wandering around.

My favourite of this type of game is still "What Remains of Edith Finch".

There is a PSN flash sale for this game right now. Mmm. I loved Gone Home but it seems the reception for Tacoma has been tepid...
