Still no plans for a EU retail release?

I hope this doesn't mean it's a 20h slog filled with... well, filler content. Can we skip dialogue/cutscenes in the game?

Right, there's no EU retail release planned.

--'filler content'...: We removed or reworked every boring or mediocre part of the game, I think we have an excellent pacing and I hope y'all agree when you played it!
Yes, cutscenes can be skipped anytime.

Hi Thomas Kern, any chance (even the slightest) of having an european reatil release then? I will buy it overseas if that's not the case, but I'd like to wait on preordering to see if with the release date approaching you find some partner here.

Man, the game improved so much in term of visuals, it's amazing
And to say it started here:

The problem is not to find a partner; we have several offers from distributors in Europe. The problem is that the EU retail market is so incredibly fragmented and our game not a well known title, so everyone and his uncle demands a big chunk of the share which means from €40 in retail we end up with like €4-5 in our own pocket. It's impossible to recoup the expensive development that way. The US market and our distribution partner (Sega) give us much more air to breathe.

Yeah, it's been a while since i have followed the news for the game. Any date, and price?

Also, the game game looks great. :)
Thanks a lot! The price will be $39.99 and it will release later this summer. Please stay tuned for more information in the near future.
Please note that the initial shipment (Day1 Edition) of the game will include game manual and stickers as a bonus.

I understand. I have preordered it right now on Amazon.com as they ship it to Europe. Play-Asia is another viable option too. The change rates say it would be around 40€ total, so it's a good deal.

Thanks!

Wow this game looks great. Will it be 4K on PS4/Pro?
Thank you! The game assets are optimized for 1080p so it doesn't have native 4K support but it upscales nicely.

This looks incredible.

Had never played or really heard much about the Wonder Boy games, but absolutely loved the remake on Switch recently so really looking forward to this.

It's indeed a huge bummer that Europe will again be the last part of the chain, but I do understand his and his companies concerns. What I hope is that the game will turn out very popular in the end and maybe they will try it to publish here. I think that's a little too late for me so I will most likely travel the import street. I've pre-ordered it on Amazon.com which will cost 47 Dollar. I think this is around 40 Euros. Is September still the release date or is it a placeholder by Amazon?

Yeah, hoping that a European release is plausible at some point even if we have to wait a bit longer. Or if it's an e-store exclusive or something.

Thank you for supporting us with your pre-order! All shop platforms use placeholder dates that roughly match our 'Summer' release plans. The exact date will be announced later, it depends on some external factors like cartridge production time, worldwide age ratings and let's not forget all platform holder approvals which need to be in sync for global sim-ship release. (Switch,PS4,Xbox One). Finger crossed all goes well! :)

We worked really hard to create an amazing action adventure from start to finish and we hope that players agree with us. If the game finds love after release and receives good ratings, the chances are much bigger to find further support from bigger distributors that may offer a reasonable EU retail (physical release) business model.

It's a shame that there's no European physical release (especially because the developers seem to be broadly French and German), but I suppose that's just what happens in such a tight cluster of countries.
At least I've had it pre-ordered for me out of Canada, so that's nice. Really looking forward to getting my mitts on it.

Well, I suppose in the meantime I can continue to vent my excitement by doing Monster Boy artwork...

Maybe a stupid question, will there be a PC version and if so will it be available on GOG? Playing Wonder Boy the dragons trap now and I would love to also to be able to buy Monster Boy on GOG.

Well, fuck. Now I have to buy 2 copies (Xbox and Switch) isn't it?
The physical release will be Nintendo Switch and PS4 only but I greatly appreciate your willingness to support us with 2 purchases. Thanks a lot! <3

Thanks a lot, also for the nice fan-artwork tweets ;)!

We're also going to work on a PC release but first finishing the console versions. PC version is planned to release in Winter but I can't confirm anything yet. We try to support as many PC platforms as possible, including GOG

Last but not least, here's a little sneak peek:

Great! Thanks for the information from my point of view I can wait to get the game if it means that I get it on a platform I own :)

I am really looking forward to this. The remake was great, but it was also a little simple due to how old the original game was. Looks like this builds on that.

Since my GCU will end sometime in June I decided to preorder the PS4 physical edition sooner rather than later. Which, by the sound of Thomas's posts, was probably a good idea.

Preordered on Switch from Amazon. Looking forward to it!

Thanks a lot! Pre-ordering was a good idea because it's the only way to receive a physical copy guaranteed. We expect that retail orders will be conservative so it may sell out quickly. Reprint not certain!

Thanks! I believe we have a worthy sequel here that really adds depth where it's welcome and has the necessary quality-of-life improvements that are to be expected in modern games. Looking forward to hear how y'all liked it when the game is finally out.

Definitely a good idea to pre-order now and guarantee yourself a physical copy. Thanks a lot!
