PES will always have a loyal fanbase. I really hope PES gets more licenses this year as stated in the pes 2019 thread. Champions league is a big blow but if they make up for it with some more licensed teams it will be easier to swallow. PES did in my opinion an awesome job with the presentation for champions league I really hope FIFA nails it.

Ha ha, it's not exactly a secret or hard to find the numbers, the comparison is laughable.

PES was a country mile ahead of FIFA in terms of gameplay in the PS2 days but still lacked in numbers. Sales aren't be all and end all for some companies.

This discussion is one that has gone on for far too long. Option files are available

Do any of the major sports games have any competition?

FIFA/Madden own football
NBA2K is more or less the only NBA release of any significance.
NHL is EA
MLB is Sony
No, but I wish EA would invest more in NHL. It's obvious that the people working on it care about the sport and features. Threes has been an absolute revelation.

I loved PES over FIFA, but seems they were always fighting a losing battle with EA pulling alot of money out of its ass and bribing for exclusivity. FIFA is greedy but would've preferred competition, now I'm stuck with sim based futbol and EA having no incentive to improve mechanics.

EA has such a monopoly. I remember when there was more than just FIFA and PES. We had dedicated UEFA games, Virtua Striker, Sensi Soccer, Club Football, Actua Soccer etc

Even Sony used to do a first party footy game (TIF).
Konami fucked up the franchise during the transition to 360/PS3. The first couple of games on those platforms were nothing more than PS2 ports. They screwed over their fans with that lack of effort and never recovered the reputation.

FIFA Ultimate Team 18 was a pure trash and now with this... PES is so dead and this will kill FIFA quality too. I think it killed it already tho.

As a HUGE fan, I guess I won't buy FIFA 19. It was my favorite sport game, and now I hate it, and that's sad.

Pes has no competition license anymore: no Champions League, no Europa League, no Libertadores. Only remain AFC Champions League (maybe).

PES is doing great for Konami, generating a lot of profit. It doesn't come close to FIFA in terms of revenue and units sold, but it doesn't need to. It's a great, mature product for Konami and dropping most of the licenses makes tons of sense. It doesn't need the licenses to be good.

I enjoy PES and FIFA these days. PES is better, and I play it more, but FIFA is just beautiful to experience presentation-wise.

Both are great. It's a fun time to be a video game soccer player.

That's the same i'm hearing. Pes 2018 sold the best since 2014. It's far from dead in sales.

I gave pes 2018 a try since it was added last week to gamepass. Played nearly 30 matches. FIFA is just a much better, polished game on any imaginable dimension. The gameplay complexity is also very noticeable. Theres literally dozens of typicall football actions that dont even exist on pes. Let alone the terrible presentation, with early ps360 menus aesthetics.
PES will always have an special, unique place in my heart for the countless hours of fun i had with it during my childhood (batistutaaaa) but god, the gap with FIFA right now is monumental.
Which is bad, because having no real competition wont push EA for taking more risks in the future.

Agreed. I really hate the hyperbolic statements from fans of either series, that one is miles better than the other, or the other is trash. Both series have reached a level of competency, that you can't really go wrong either way. I prefer the gameplay of PES currently, but have still got hours of fun from FIFA.

The bigger problem with both series imo, is that they really aren't worth buying every year, especially if you're a primarily Career/ML mode player like myself, and I'd really like to see EA and Konami tackle this properly. I skipped buying any of them this season, the only reason I'll be playing them is due to XGP and EA Access.

I get a copy for free every year but i didn't play that much of fifa 18 apart from the pro club..and that too has been bugged since forever and my player can't improve anymore,..and they never fixed it.

don't know it sounds like a bad news all things considered..sure it's cool to have the cups in there..but if EA was phoning it in ,now they wil do even worse...lack of competition is bad.

PES19 will still have the best gameplay.
Modders will add every license within a week.

If only they would improve the Master League...

Literally my sentiments too. The UCL wasnt even used very well by PES it was effectively a skin. Master League needs to be sorted though I have a ton of ideas to make it better its a shame they don't incorporate even some very basic things.

1. Drop that stupid player rating system never get higher than 8.0. I mean wth i've never understood that.
2. Goddamn Regen players how hard is it to retire a player and give him a new name and haircut. I don't want a reborn F.Totti be like Champ Manager and just him a generic name F.Gennaro.
3. Individual player history. I mean come on I play 5 or 6 seasons sometimes I just want to know how many goals my striker has scored in that time without trudging through menus with a calculator.
4. In terms of gameplay more penalties, more injuries and have actual training drills before matches to boost condition or stats or tactical boost dep3nding on who you are playing.
5. Transfer requests. If your not playing a player he requests a transfer.
6. Fix the transfer market why is C.Ronaldo playing for Milan? It makes no sense when some players move. Its an easy fix too... use the club ranking system and make sure C.Ronaldo can generally only move to a club in the top 10. Do the same for Isco but change the parameter to top 20. It will increase the realism off the bat.

I could go on and on honestly.

Yeah, ML in Pes is quite outdated and it's definitely disappointing they only talked about two-three little addictions to it this year.
