Oh, I just assumed there would be one towards the end of the season, sorry. Looks like I guessed wrong though:

http://deadline.com/2018/03/the-vam...-jenny-boyd-and-kaylee-bryant-1202312569/amp/

Sounds like from this article that Alaric will be by himself running the school. "(Matt) Davis will anchor the new show…" I think if Candice King was confirmed, she would have been put front and center, even ahead of Davis.

Granted, this article was in March, so things could have changed. I have a feeling one of two things are happening right now. One, Plec is currently trying to negotiate a deal with King, which is why we haven't heard anything about her. Or two, King has already flat out said no and Plec is waiting for the show to be greenlit before announcing the final casting.

What I hope for may be unrealistic, but not sure if I will watch unless King is signed on for a series regular. Not even that dreaded 'reoccuring character'. We saw what happened with Flockhart in regards to Supergirl. We have seen her, three times?

If King doesn't come on as a series regular, the only thing I could see is they kill her off. It doesn't make sense, otherwise. Caroline wouldn't leave the school she re-opened in honor of Stefan and she certainly wouldn't leave her girls, whom are at the school. And having her be there, but (almost) never on camera would get old really fast. "I just saw Caroline and she wanted me to tell you/she was upset/she is taking care of/etc".

I think the only 'good' situation is if she is a series regular. But I know she is a (relatively) new mom and would understand if she didn't, however much I would hate to not see her.

Cross posting with The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale Thread:

Netflix just announced that they've picked up 6 more episodes of The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale.

But there's a slight difference: all 6 new episodes will premiere at once instead of the weekly format the original 13 episodes have aired. Not sure how this will work since the show depends on new material every week. Maybe expect more unfunny original sketches?

Joel McHale's return to the green screen has been extended, with Netflix ordering additional episodes of his twice-titular clip show.

Ahead of Sunday's 13th episode — the last of its initial order — the streaming service has announced that six "bonus" episodes of The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale will drop, all at once, on Sunday, July 15. (So much for Joel's Weekly Dump.)

Unlike The Soup, McHale doesn't limit himself to mocking reality TV; recent targets have included NBC's Rise and Syfy's The Magicians. Each episode also includes original comedy shorts (see Mini Black Mirror) and celebrity cameos.

The Joel McHale Show first launched in February.

Need to give Killing Eve a shot, have only heard good things about it.

But where is the best place to catch up on older episodes? Is the series on On Demand via Comcast? We have Netflix and Hulu+, as well. Or can you stream it via Amazon? I have Prime.

I hope this is just an end-season thing and then it'll come back to weekly next season.

That's... an interesting take. I guess they want to experiment with doing batch episode drops at once? Have any of Netflix's weekly shows succeeded/survived? I think they're trying to find the best way to release content between half seasons, their monthly shows and things like this vs. one season a year(+).

Part of me just feels like this'll be half material left on the cutting room floor and it's so cheap to produce anyway they said why not

FX Orders 'Mr Inbetween' Australian Drama Series From Scott Ryan & Nash Edgerton
FX has ordered a six-episode first season of Mr Inbetween, a half-hour drama series from Scott Ryan and and Nash Edgerton, inspired by Ryan's 2005 cult film The Magician, for premiere on FX and Foxtel in Australia this fall. FX and Foxtel have commissioned a writers room for a second season.

Created by and starring Ryan and directed by Edgerton, Mr Inbetween centers on Ray Shoesmith (Ryan), a father, ex-husband, boyfriend and best friend: tough roles to juggle in the modern age. Even harder when you're a criminal for hire.

In addition to Ryan, Damon Herriman (Justified), Justin Rosniak, Brooke Satchwell, Jackson Tozer, Nicholas Cassim, Chika Yasumura and Matt Nable also star.

The first season of the FX original series was shot in Australia and produced by Blue-Tongue Films and Jungle Entertainment, in association with FX Productions, Screen Australia and Create NSW. Michele Bennett is Producer and Ryan, Edgerton and Jason Burrows are Executive Producers.

Gotham's average ratings are barely better than B99's. I'd be worried considering how trigger happy FOX seems to be. A bit more in total eyeballs but that doesn't mean much.
Gotham was a few points higher until the winter break killed it as usual, just declines after that.

At least it wasn't like last season
Winter final - November 28th
Returns - January 16th
Another break - January 30th
Returns - April 24th
Season final - June 5th

Oh, bummer. The best parts are the topical clips from the last week. I can't stand the weird skits.

Dang, 4 of the main reasons I pay for Hulu all killed off this year. Bye bye Mick, B99, New Girl, and Last Man on Earth. And also goodbye to my Hulu subscription.

Can anyone give me an overview of Expanse and comparable shows? I keep seeing it come up in discussions around underrated network shows.
I would say it's not really comparable to anything...
It's an above average Syfy show (with most of the trappings that come with that designation) and a very enthusiastic fanbase. BSG it is not.

It's definitely not this. IMO, it's better than BSG. It's got a bit of a rough start (season 2 and 3 are much better than the first), but it never falls into the territory of one of those typical campy "Syfy shows". That's what stuff like Dark Matter or Killjoys is. The Expanse is way above that.

Ah, so it's one of those. Gotcha

It's really not. If I had to compare it to anything, honestly the closest thing would be Game of Thrones in space. But instead of 7 kingdoms there's only 3, so it's much smaller scale while still being... well, expansive. It's also very "grounded" "realistic" sci-fi despite being in space, which is something you basically never see in the genre.

This is a rough set of cancellations for me, with that extra salt-in-the-wound from Last Man Standing coming back. I try not to wish ill on any show since there are always good people who depend on it for their livelihood, but fuuuuuuck this show and anyone who had a hand in bringing it back.

It's hard scifi in some ways and not in others. The Expanse has some pretty goofy shit in it. I'd say that's one thing it has in common with BSG — it's usually fairly hard scifi except when it occasionally features goofy shit.

So people sleuthing around have discovered more CW social media accounts that got recently updated with banners and artwork. All American (formerly Untitled April Blair / Spencer Paysinger project) and Legacies (seemingly The Originals spinoff).

So while not officially confirmed yet, it seems CW's pilot orders are likely at seven so far.

- All American
- Charmed
- In the Dark
- Legacies (Originals spinoff)
- Roswell New Mexico
- The End of the World As We Know It
- Wayward Sisters (Supernatural spinoff)

That's a lot of new shows... Seems less and less likely that iZombie will get renewed at this point. Especially if Black Lightning season 2 debuts in the Fall and gets expanded to a full 22 episodes.

lol I am reminded of what I wrote at the old place:

I think I wrote this after watching the pilot + a few more episodes. And I warmed up to it enough to say it's above average after finishing the first season. But man the pilot is so fucking bad.

It's a very jank-y show with some subpar dialogue and some stilted acting. If it's Game of Thrones, then it is late seasons Game of Thrones where they strip down the initial complexity that show had.

Yeah, grounded is not a word I'd use for it.

Suppose they also double stack the Sunday slot. That means they have 4 shows for Sunday and three to replace the cancelled ones. It could leave room for izombie. Although I would say move some shows into the summer.

Yeah, grounded is not a word I'd use for it.

I agree season 1 is average, I think the show is simply better after that, which isn't uncommon for television. I also agree some of the acting isn't great. And I think that continues to this day. Unfortunately Sci-Fi is one of those genres that almost never gets good actors (at least on television) for some reason. I'd call most of them serviceable though.

I also know it's not truly "grounded" since there's alien shit in it, but it overall does a pretty good effort at space realism. And that's unique enough to be interesting to watch compared to all the Star Trek/Wars low budget rip offs that tend to plague the genre.

And just so we're clear, I don't think The Expanse is up to Game of Thrones' level of quality. Not close in a million years. I just think the style of the show is what it is comparable to (if anything), since there are multiple places within the show where we are following completely different sets of characters and plots that interlock in pretty vague/indirect ways (at least initially).

I'm of course still waiting for a true "Premium Cable"-level Science Fiction show. And I think it will inevitably happen eventually with all these streamers investing in the genre. But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy The Expanse for what it is, which is quite a bit above the normal quality in the genre, even if it's still not Top-Tier TV quality.

So you're telling me that blindly chasing after the Trump audience isn't a safe bet? (looking at you Fox with your Last Man Standing)
Now if we only could get rid of Six and SEAL Team. Well 2 out of 3 new ones isn't too bad.
What's bad about the new military series the networks aired this season, what does it have to do with Trump and how is it comparable to LMS?

I haven't seen any of the military series.

Bummer. A good amount of shows I watch got the whammy this time. I do hope The Expanse gets picked up by another content provider. As others have said, the first season was middling, but since then it's been very good. I loved the last episode and rarely do I feel that kind of tension on a non-premium cable network.

The Expanse is a show about a relatively near-future where humans have colonized Mars and a few other areas of the solar system. All of the technology used in the show is very realistic, there's no "warp drive" or anything like that in the show which conveniently solves transportation problems, and it mostly revolves around the political machinations of three primary groups of people:
  • Earth, which is pretty cushy and full of resources, much of which is provided by mining in the asteroid belt
  • Mars, which has ambitious goals of terraforming the planet which keep getting diverted to war and defense against Earth instead
  • The Belt, made up of the blue collar workers who do the real hard work to provide resources like water (from ice) and minerals for the other two factions
New discoveries throw the tepid balance between the three factions out of whack, and people get caught up in things they don't understand. But the way they handle technology in the show, political movements, dialog between characters, and other areas is extremely well written and really refreshing compared to so many other shows.

Thanks for posting this SeanM, that is great news on the TVD/Originals front. (Paging Pachimari for the Originals news.) And as Joni said I think (and hope) there's still a little hope for an iZombie renewal.

I haven't seen any of the military series.
With the election of Trump, some assumed there was a massive audience for shows that catered to that audience that wasn't tapped into. The military is basically worshipped by that audience so that was seen as a safe bet (esp. with things like American Sniper doing well in cinemas)
They're bad because they are jingoistic bullshit. I don't like jingoistic bullshit.

LMS is blindly chasing after the same audience as Roseanne (with its Trump supporting, transphobic, conspiracymonger lead). So it's another show desperately chasing an audience that isn't necessarily there.

Thanks for taggint me Nabbit! This little piece of "news" is really great! So Legacies it is, quite fitting too. I should catch up with the current season of The Originals this weekend. I simply just haven't had the time for shows and movies the past few weeks.

"Excited?" said Allen in a statement. "Team LMS was in the sixth inning, ahead by four runs, stands were packed, and then for no reason, they call off the game. It leaves you sitting in the dugout, holding a bat and puzzled. Now we get the news from Fox that it's time to get back out on that diamond — hell yes, I'm excited! When I heard the offer to create more episodes of Last Man Standing, I did a fist pump so hard I threw my back out.

Fox: Get ready for nothing but Last Man Standing, The Simpsons, & Family Guy.

Seriously, did someone over at Fox stumble upon one of those old "Fox cancels everything" jokes?
Did Fox get acquired by Konami?
