User Warned: "lazy dev" rhetoric

This network test is ABSOLUTELY not representative of the actual gameplay, since they've shoved a bunch of enemies where they don't belong and throws everything off. Overall, this has actually hurt my interest in buying the remaster. Need to just play PtD with DSfix I guess. I think I'm so used to Dark Souls 3 being so much quicker, this feels sluggish.

edit: dismiss this post. I'm just painfully out of touch with DS1.

Are you sure? All the enemies are exactly where I remember them.

Huh? All enemies are in the exact same spot. In fact, other then graphic changes, nothing has change.

What? It's the exact same enemy layout. What enemies are you talking about?

I didn't notice that but it's been a few years. Where'd they add enemies?

Edit: Lol at the last few posts above me including mine.

Well holy shit, I guess it's been too long since I last played. lmao

e: Dark Souls 3 is certainly more forgiving when it comes to the in-betweens. I don't remember ever being chased by the cathedral knight in the church near the elevator.

Console wars, armchair developer, lazy devs, I'm even sensing a touch of racism... This post has everything!

Armchair developer who has access to the x and pro hardware to develop for. Got it. Console wars? The pro is not as powerful as the x, that's simple math. No fanboy bs there.

Racism? The Xbox brand in Japan is toxic and Japanese devs don't give it enough attention. Again, that's been proven.

Why don't you go spout your fanboy Bs elsewhere, cheers. That wasn't what the post was about.

Are there also like, no iframes in this network test or something?

That is actually even more re-assuring to me. I would have been pissed if they changed the game play and sped it up to to match Dark Souls III. I appreciate the slower methodical fights.

Never played this before (properly). No idea what I'm doing. Tried to kill this Black Knight(?) fella like ten times and am getting bodied repeatedly. Get hype.

BK are much stronger than regular mobs. You need to do backstab or parry / riposte. Otherwise, you do crap damage and it will take awhile.

Really have to disagree. The added depth does so much for the visuals.
Here is a 4K video from Xbox One X where you can watch me fail to do the kick a lot of times.

Huh! 160 hours, and the Dark Soul achievement, and I've only now realised how good the kick is against the stupid spear guys!! Only used it once and that was cheesing Lautrec!

How much further can we play after the gargoyles? They've always been one of the most annoying bosses for me so I'm debating whether I even want to bother beating them if it just ends once I do so.

Why is there no ambient audio like in the original such as wind blowing etc.? I just checked two videos and both don't have it in the Network Test Remaster version. Could this have been turned down via one of the audio sliders or did they really leave this out? I noticed it with my short time with it earlier and just had a chance to confirm it now.

PC Version / Original background sound:

Remaster / No wind etc.:

EDIT: Checked several other spots and the bird chirping underneath is still there so I'm going to take a guess and say this wasn't turned off in some audio setting since I'd assume the bird chirping sounds would be gone as well.

EDIT #2: Checking further into each video, this goes for the entire area actually. The boar courtyard and everything had a heavy ambient sound presence as well which isn't in the Remaster.

Woot woot, parried/reposte the dark knight. Sadly, couldn't do it twice.

Frame-rate seems good though. I haven't gotten past the sorcerer on the top level church. Very difficult to run past.

e: It's all coming back to me now. Gotta use the shield, no two ways about it as a knight.

Keep pressing Share to bring up the emotes instead of the left side of the trackpad. I'm never gonna get used to that...

I can't wait for this to release so a bunch of self-proclaimed Dark Souls diehards can start shitting on it for everything the original did exactly the same way under pretense of it being a "shitty low-effort remaster."

You got pretty defensive there, it seems like him calling you out must have struck a nerve. You alright?

Actually was more the point that I was warned by the site and the reason was "console wars", yet I clearly stated that the pro is indeed not as powerful as the x. Which is a fact. It's not even up for debate. Your console of choice is your own, but it's a proven fact, and thus there is zero reason the x version in this case should have lower quality than the pro. As somebody who has worked with both machines and also the original hardware before updates, it's not rocket science. The Xbox is at the bottom, the x is at the top. That's not console wars. It is, in effect, the same as saying a gtx 1080 is better than a gtx 970. It's just math. It shouldn't be happening. Yet it's happened on a few titles now, each one from a purely Japanese developer. The last of recent memory was monster hunter world, which ended up looking worse in x, because they simply took the base game and upped the resolution. But because the Xbox on original had lower quality old and shorter draw distance, it ended up looking worse. It was a poor effort.

In all honesty lads if you can't have an actual civil and honest conversation about a games pros AND cons, without resorting to console wars as a reason, you're not really doing it right. And I'm MASSIVE souls fan, as well as blood bourne, who has all consoles due to work commitments. I'm as far from a console fan boy as you can be. But I do know technology, as I work with it every day.

Okay this is a massive blow if true. The sound design of the first dark souls is absolutely amazing and I'm going to be extremely bummed if they got rid of the ambient sounds.

It's the way that you approached it, which was absurdly hyperbolic and aggressive.

Interesting note about the missing sound effects, I'm not gonna read into it since the file size is tiny and it's a tiny area. But from what I've played, love the frame rate, little too much motion blur for my tastes, but I'm looking forward to it! It does what a remaster should, make it look as good as it looked when you first played it. That illusion is maintained here in 4k.

Since I can't enter more than 2 media pieces, I'll paste my Edit to my previous audio post here:

EDIT #3 (sorry...): Okay, something's awry with the audio here. The original release goes into various amounts of reverb if walking through corridors etc. depending on the size of the room and area. None of that happens here as he walks through the corridor and it can be cross-checked with the PC footage I posted above. You go from dead silence standing outside to no reverb/echo even in that hallway:

EDIT #4 (whatevs): Reverb/echo is definitely still there when you enter large spaces like the church interior. However, I don't hear it in other spots where I can definitely hear, albeit small, amounts of reverb due to entering a corridor or similar.

It seems like it may be scaled back a little bit, although I can't be sure at all, but the entire background soundtrack is missing from the whole area.

Wow, removing the ambient noises would be some ridiculous fuckery. Atmosphere is a big part of DS. Would be amazing if they did that. Doesnt deserve anyones money.

I didn't get a chance to dowload the client in time and I need to decide which version to buy. How does the X compares to the PS4 Pro in terms of visual presentation and performance? Hopefully DF will make a video analysis.

PS: I didn't post the audio stuff for anyone to go apeshit over yet but it deserves to be pointed out to keep an eye on. I have zero clue whether this is some mistake in the network test file, will be patched Day 1, is a glitch or whatever. I'm just reporting the change I noticed as I felt something was 'off' with my short time with it earlier and watching the video I noticed why.

The example videos are time tagged so everyone can check for themselves and see what they make of it.

The game looks and feels like the modded PC version. Pretty neat if you want to replay the game on PS4.

I can't check the audio changes, but if that's true, this is just super weird. Incredibly disappointed if that's the case.

Do we have anyone from QLOC on Era?
