It's a joke at the media's expense.

He might not be entirely wrong in suggesting that when he leaves the White House and the end to end coverage of everything Trump does that people obsessively hate-watch was to conclude, those news stations would lose a lot of viewers

Is there an actual link to what he said? I would be highly surprised if it wasn't out of context like it was when he was taking a jab at the Chinese President. Sorry if I missed it.

Another poster posted the text awhile back. Most of the replies here are severe over reactions as usual.

What was said:

"The new embassy, I said 'when is it going to be open.' They said 'anywhere from 5-10 years,'" Trump said.

"So, I said, 'unless they give me an extension for the presidency, which I don't think the fake news media would be too happy about," Trump continued.

"Actually they would be happy, because when I'm not here, their ratings are going to sink. So they'll probably be very happy,"

I remember you. You finger wagged people in the BeBest topic because we were "bullying". And now you're downplaying that Trump wants to be a dictator by saying he's joking.

1) This isn't the first time he made the joke
2) Trump doesn't tell jokes. He doesn't even laugh.

Dude, just be honest with us and admit that you're a Trump supporter.

So he was joking. Kind of what I figured.

No offense to anyone here, but the left has really struggled with understanding Trump's sense of humor a lot.

Granted sometimes his timing and place of making jokes isn't the most well thought out either.

Was it a joke when he suggested taking your guns away before due process or is he just a fucking moron that blurts out whatever?

Think carefully!

He loves the power and all the money he is stealing. Too bad all the dumb shit he does is nerfing his own power internationally.

Of course he wants to be president forever. Too bad he won't even win reelection.

Be careful.. Most of us never thought he would be elected to begin with. He may very well be re-elected for a 2nd term. I obviously wouldn't want that to happen, but at this day and age nothing surprises me anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if he found a way to rig the next election to retain power if the blow back against him is strong enough. I'm sure his billionaire buddies would also have no issue shelling out the cash to help make it happen.

If they try to add a third term option, Obama is going to come back and it will blow up in their face.

I'm hoping Mueller brings him down before he even gets there.

I mean, who didnt see this coming?

Hes going to try to pull some shit during his 2nd term, just watch. I wouldn't even be surprised if he got more of the popular vote, either.

I think he's probably kidding.... but goddam imagine how the right would freakout if Obama ever made a joke about that.

The scariest time in America will be between November 4th, 2020 and January 20, 2021.

Yeah... exactly. The actual quote should probably be in the OP, because even as an ardent Trump hater, I don't think the comment deserved 350 replies quoting the 22nd amendment.

I mean it's probably a joke (and I say probably because with Trump one never knows). Still not something the president should joke about, for obvious reasons.

It's pretty obvious he's kidding here, a masterful troll.

Besides, dude probably can't wait to leave the job, what with all the legal scrutiny he's received.

I live in NJ. I just watched my state flip its attitude towards illegals/immigration overnight after Murphy signed the aid bill for college tuition. People are losing their shit, and it isn't just the usual suspects, either.

Dont be surprised if Trump wins 2020 even more bigly than he did last time.

Let's be honest, the media is addicted to Trump. And why not? News orgs like NYT and WP are doing better than ever. Don't expect the outrage articles to leave once Trump is thrown out.

The thing that is directly saving his ass right now is the fact that he's the President because it makes legal action against him not only difficult from a legal position, but also from a political position.

He doesn't want the actual responsibility of the job, but you better believe he wants the status and protection afforded by it.

I like all the idiots trying to pass this off as a joke like it's not the same "joke" he has made numerous times. And he's shown numerous times that he doesn't care about the rule of law or checks and balances.

When you're in such a position of power and have shown that you admire dictators and "president-for-life" politicians, making "jokes" about consolidating that power is not funny.

At this point he could take a copy of constitution to a rally and set it on fire and his supporters would cheer and call it the most American thing they had ever seen.

This has occurred to me. Who knows how the future will pan out, but I wouldn't be surprised if a whole bunch of media outlets resorted to barrel scraping articles about Trump to try and keep those numbers.

It's an interesting dynamic, Trump wouldn't have got where he was without the media tripping over themselves to broadcast his antics to the widest audience possible. But now that he's there, the constant negative attention is no doubt making things, such as the mid terms, harder by sending out an apparent consensus that he sucks.

I don't think anyone suggested that it's funny.

It's clearly a joke though. Also, idiots? Really? Ya going to just insult the lot of us?

Concerning, but not threatening. If he were much more popular this may have been a problem.

Edit: watched the source video, sounded more like a joke to me than an actual proposition. I wouldn't put it past him to have been serious about it, though.

There's always at least a bit of truth in jest. I have no doubt this dude would hunker down like a wounded animal if he is indicted on criminal charges, clinging to office as long as he can to shield himself and his business from consequences instead of voluntarily resigning.

Acting like you're not going to follow the Constitution is not funny.

No offense to anyone here, but the left has really struggled with understanding Trump's sense of humor a lot.

That's because he punches down, not up.

Granted sometimes his timing and place of making jokes isn't the most well thought out either.

Perhaps he's taking a page from one of the most prestigious public universities in the country: certain people don't have to follow the rules. Perhaps that's where he got the whole fake news thing, from the fake classes at North Carolina.

At this point he could take a copy of constitution to a rally and set it on fire and his supporters would cheer and call it the most American thing they had ever seen.

I forget which twitter handle was quoting stuff from the Declaration of Independence and some people (I won't say which party they'd be for) were calling them un-American.

Maybe I'd be more lenient on his "jokes" if he didn't spent his entire campaign running on fascist rhetoric, and his entire presidency wasn't full of fascist tendencies. It's not that I don't "understand" him. It's that he's a fucking piece of shit.

There's literally no way. As spinless as the GOP is in Congress they wouldn't undo this amendment in order to extend Trump's reign of terror.

I can't stand this shit. Can people stop being such a partisan hack about everything? This is a joke, clearly taken out of context, and perfectly exemplifies exactly the type of behavior that turns people off of the left in this country, and lends credence to the idea of fake news.

You don't have to be a Trump supporter to find this behavior abhorrent. When Obama was taken out of context by right wing media, people rightfully freaked out. Be consistent, stop politicizing everything, the truth is more important than politics. There are plenty of real reasons to think Trump is a moron, we don't need to make shit up, it hurts more than it helps.

Also the witch hunting for Trump supporters needs to stop, honestly. I'm sure multiple people are reading this post and thinking i'm a closet Trump supporter just because I don't immediately and ferociously rebuke everything the guy says. If you're out there, consider the train of thought and whether it's part of the solution or the problem.
