Dragon Quest VII.

I planned to play it last year but my backlog didn't let me and by the time I was ready to play it, Dragon Quest VIII was around the corner and I have been wating since its release on PS2 to play it and bought and played it right away when it released on 3DS.

I'm probably in the 4th island in VII (the one with the animals), I'm liking it and seeing the charm and uniqueness that has been talked about the game. Nor even 20 hours of gameplay, so I assumed I still have a lot to do, beginning with unlocking the job system.

Nothing at the moment, sadly. I'm itching to start Trails in the Sky FC on my Vita but I just don't think I'll have time with Origins, Odyssey, and Ultra Sun dropping soon. Then XC2 gets the nod after those, so...
I want to play the Trails in the Sky games really bad. I started the first one on the PC but the performance is kind of funky at times. Might switch to a different platform.

A lot of people I know with great taste give the series high praise.

Slowing going through Suikoden 1. Liking it so far but I wish I had more time to play.

It's been a long time since I've played the first 2 Suikoden games, but at the time they were some of the best games I've ever played

It's really worth your time. I'm about 25 hours into the first one, and it's a great world with insane amounts of dialogue. I keep talking to people just to see what they say, which is basically how I treat my coworkers.

Blue Reflection ... I'm enjoying it, but man - they need an editor badly. Most fan translations are better. But, still, I'm enjoying the characters and story.

Keep putting off Trails of Cold Steel. I'll get to it.... after Wolfenstein and Mario.... maybe.

Not a JRPG, but playing Danganronpa V3 right now.

The reason I come to this thread, however, is to announce that my next JRPG will likely be Tales of Berseria (finally).

From the amount of praise I see, it seems to be something special. I used to have a thing against the heavily anime-inspired art style on most JRPG's from the last 10 years or so, but I've actually started to like it.

Trails is third on my backlog right now, going to check out Radiata Stories and also finish the VN Fate Stay/Night

Xenoblade on Wii. I'm like 120 hours in and started trying to do 100% of all the side stuff before completing the game. I think I am about to just give up and go finish the game.

Started replaying the first Breath of Fire recently. I found the GBA cartridge I bought brand new back in 2001 but never played and got all nostalgic. I ended up playing the SNES version instead though because, blah, those colors.

And it's not a full game, but I just got a Switch and the Octopath Traveler demo is keeping me busy until Odyssey is out. This is blowing me away.

I'm playin Bravely Second right now. I'm dissapointed at myself for not playing it earlier. It has been really enjoyable.

Edea is pretty much the Captain of the new squad and more Edea is great.

I'm playing Chrono Trigger for the first time. DS version. I'm about 3/4ths through and it's really solid. A few guide dangit moments here and there but that's no biggie in this day and age with walkthroughs and such.

First time playing CT? Lucky you :) I wish I could experience it for the first time again.

Right now none, but next week it will be either Final Fantasy 6 or Earthbound when my SNES Classic Mini finally gets delivered.

Currently playing through Disgaea 5. Pretty far along and near the end of the game. I've... probably gone a little overboard with the grinding, as Killia is level 546.

That's how I'm current feeling about the first...about 12hrs in and can't believe I put it off this long...hoping I keep at it though the late game, lot of criticisms with it.

I've been on something of a JRPG tear lately. Currently, I'm going through the original Shin Megami Tensei on Super Famicom, and am enjoying it quite a bit. The interface and progression is a bit clunky (I really miss a dedicated map button), but since later SMT games (excepting Strange Journey) moved away from mazelike first-person dungeon crawling, there's something refreshing about the gameplay all the same. Plus, it's nice to hear where so many notable series themes (conceptual and musical) originated. The Law and Chaos themes from this game are still the best in the series.

And "Palace of the Four Heavenly Kings" is one of the better songs in an SMT game. Also received a great remix in Apocalypse.

Ayyy my favorite thread is back.

Shining Force 3 - I've given this a shot once before, but didn't get very far. Now that I have a Saturn emulator on a handheld (!) I figure I have no excuse. Loving it so far, even though it is a bit wordy. The translation seems great so far though

Breath of Fire - I've played this game so many times, but never completed it. I think it's time. I'm loving it and now that I've been on a bit of an old-school Capcom kick lately, it's making me appreciate the sprite work even more.

Custom Robo - This one is debatable, but based on everything surrounding the actual robot battles, I'd call it a JRPG. The original game for the N64 was recently translated and I'm really loving it so far! The battles are bit baby mode until they're not anymore, but I just love the overall vibe of the game. I cannot believe this was never localized. I think in the era of Pokemon, and on a console lacking solid RPGs, it would have been a smash hit.

I beat FFIX for the first time about a month ago, and moved on to FFX HD. I hadn't been big on JRPGs since I fell off the wagon about 10 years ago, but FFIX was excellent (even if I did take a two-month break to actually finish the game because Deathguise killed me a few times and then I got burned out trying to do the Brothers Sidequest in Memoria), and FFX HD is fantastic. The gameplay is excellent, and I just got the Airship and I actually want to go around and start working with some of the systems, which is something I don't do a lot of. Usually I just try to skate by and finish the game, but I want to take my time with this one.

After 17 years I finally beat FFIX a few months ago as well. It's my favorite JRPG, but I could just never bring myself to finish it because I loved it so much. The ending feels like it came kind of fast and missed out on closing a few character arcs, but I still loved it overall.

I'm playing fate grand order on my phone casually. Other than that I haven't played a solid jrpg since FFXII remastered.

Honestly, I don't think it came too fast, and I feel the rushed feeling after returning from Terra is warranted, but I do agree with you about the character arcs. Amarant in particular, since he never really had a lot of development at all. He just showed up one day and then got strong-armed into the party. It was kind of odd.

Yeah Amarant is a big one as well as my all-time favorite lady, Freya. Feels a bit to me like they wanted to wrap up production and get started on X. I remember when it came out, it felt like information about Final Fantasy X was hitting almost immediately afterward. I'm sure they needed the resources working with a brand new console and all as well.

Note: I'm just pulling all of this out of my ass.

120 hours into Persona 5 and I only now finished the 4th dungeon. I feel like I'm going through this at a much slower pace than most people heh.

I've started Emerald Dragon (1995) for the Super Famicom. This is one I missed back in the day, and I'm really enjoying it so far (about 2 hours play time thus far).

(BTW hello, this is my first post here)

None currently, though I keep meaning to give Berseria a crack.

Anyone know if it's worth a go? I really didn't care for Zestiria if that's any gauge.

Just started Tokyo Mirage Sessions tonight after buying a Wii U (Yeah, I'm a bit late on that one).

Just finished the first boss, and I'm getting a very positive feeling of this game. Althoo I'm not that wellversed with the Fire Emblem besides Marth and Roy.

At the moment I am playing Tales of Zestiria.

As someone who heard bad things about this game and thinks Vesperia is one of the best(if not THE best), this isn't so bad. There are certain design decisions I don't like that carry forward from xillia, the maps are simply too big with a lot of bloat and filler. At the time of this writing, I'm feeling some burnout and traversing through the maps themselves is a chore. All that being said I like the music, story, the cast.

I'm mainly playing this to check out Berseria down the line. As of now, the reviews seem to be bang on, I just simply didn't want to take a risk back when it came out.

Nier automata (it counts right??). On path B.

Such an awesome combat system for an rpg and the music is godly.

I'd been playing Disgaea 5, started to get into the end game but the grind got too much. Had a good 75 hours or so with it though.

Might get into DQVII next if I can actually find my 3DS.

Dragon Quest VIII. Trying to grind to level 100 and take on the post-game dungeons. I've been working on creating the strongest gear as well.

Not exactly a JRPG, but I'm really interested in Battle Chasers.

Anyone know if there are any notable differences between the PC and PS4 version? It should have the same visual and framerates, but just wanted to make sure. Only thing I managed to find through Google is that the PS4 version has slightly longer load times.

I'm playing Revelations: Persona. I really like the game. Just got the bad ending, and am now trying to get the good one. After that I'm planning to play through Persona 2: Innocent Sin.

Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga - Never finished them back when they came out, with the announcement of SMTV it felt like the right time.

Front Mission 4 - One of my favorite PS2 games, I always come back to it every couple of years and it's always fun.

I'm also waiting on my copy of FFXII to arrive so I can start that too.
