Yeah, just finished it. It was alright but too much of the plot was depending on the stupid actions of the characters .

As a Swede I have no issue with subtitles - I was raised on them - but I do find Danish difficult to listen to for too long. To my ears it's like a mangled, not quite intelligible version of Swedish.

Danish sounds a little German at times but no surprise there. I got up to episode 8 and I have to say there's a lot of insanely stupid decision making throughout and you can't use the excuse that they're kids considering probably all of them are in their 20s minus the brother.

Also the premise makes no damn sense. If the virus is in the rain how are there survivors when its so easy to be exposed to it. Water gets fucking everywhere.

I mean, you have to have some kind of willingness for suspension of disbelief in order to enjoy post-apocalyptic shows. You can make this point about almost any post-apocalyptic show and there were even some worse points I noticed while watching it, but I don't think that it's an appropriate criticism. At least it tried to do something different with the rain thing.

I've watched 5 episodes so far and while it gets a bit weird at times, the show is fairly engaging. I do have a few pet peeves.
It only ever starts raining when there's thunder and I'm struggling to suspend my disbelief for this. It's often cloudy in the episodes and I think the characters at minimum should pre-emptively be wearing protective gear. They can't exactly get a weather forecast.

Also, I don't understand how dozens of people are still alive after 6 years in the city. Most of the edible food would be gone after a few months.

If guzzoline is so rare, why are they wasting it on flamethrowers ?

There's so many shots of them just inches away from rain fall under open ass cover. Even just microscopic splashes would infect them or even humidity would affect them with the water droplets in the air. You'd think if it got the least bit cloudy they would wear masks and take better cover than some old rickety wooden roof and stand on the edge of the cover. They did a bad job giving a sense of the rain's danger besides the whole don't step in a fucking puddle.

Dismissing a movie because of its language is your loss!
I think it's pretty absurd, but then again there is this show on Amazon that really seemed interesting to me, but I couldn't watch it because it was dubbed English. I think the show is German. It had a guy that looks like the sleazy Trivago spokesman. Can't remeber the name.

The first episode made me hate Rasmus so god damn much. He's 100% responsible for the death of a bunch of people on the motorway who might have otherwise gotten to safety if he hadn't caused a truck to roll over, and he's
50% responsible for his mothers death alongside Simone.

Between the seatbelt kid and the daughter being a collosal idiot I just turned it off. My tolerance for children's stupidity as a primary plot device is very very low after Lost in Space.

Keep at it.

There's a time jump after the first episode of 6 years so he fucks off pretty fast, the show kept me engaged right the way through.

I remember a time when people on such forums would be ashamed to admit they don't like to read subtitles.

I have 2 episodes left, so I guess I'm enjoying it enough. However, I have some pet peeves as well. Nothing that will spoil you inparticular.

Really bugs me that someone steps into a puddle and its the end of the world, but they can go outside after it stops raining and touch all kinds of stuff without protection and not worry. Food thing doesn't bother me so much since people pretty much die immediately while being in the rain early on. Wipe out a ton of the population and there would be a lot of perishable food left.

Watched the first episode and it isn't for me. The opening just feels completely cheesy and nonsensical. It actually reminds me of the happening.

Finished this series yesterday. The series is cheesy but I mildly enjoyed it. I cared about most characters and the acting was ok (I think Simone was the weakest). Danish is a weirdly soothing language. The visuals were very beautiful and I found the scenarios absolutely impeccable (it is so frustrating when it is all ugly and cardboard looking). It has a YA vibe especially with all the romantic plots, but I think if it was a real situation, people would do it.

I liked how most female characters were written (even though Simone is kinda plain in her heroine template), except Beatrice. She was very stereotypical, unlikable and somewhat shallow. I wonder if there is a pattern of an Evil Brunette Woman in European series, counting this one and Hannah from Dark.

When it comes to the comparisons with Dark, for those who didn't watch The Rain yet, don't expect it will be nearly as good and complex as the German one. The Rain is much more the standard survival series while Dark brings small-town drama (not to mention the gorgeous sci-fi) to the next level (I would compare it to the two first seasons of Twin Peaks).

One particular thing about The Rain I disliked a lot was the constant use of indie songs in every episode. It really broke the immersion, not to mention the fact they didn't care to synch voice and visuals in many scenes.

The 3 last episodes are the worst in the whole series. A lot of the scientific aspects just don't make sense, and the ''evil corporation muohohohoho'' vibe was a huge turn-off.

It is watchable. Not complex as Dark nor exciting/fun as La Casa de Papel, but it is a really good thing that Netflix is bringing these ''foreign'' shows to its platform.

Saw the first two episodes over the weekend. It is decent. The siblings suck though (in terms of their decisions).

"Hey can you open your mouth so we can take a swab sample to try and develop a cure for this killer virus?"
"No I'm going to forcibly keep my mouth shut, thrash and squirm when you try to take a sample and bite you in return for your taking care of me and my sister and trying to cure this virus"

I'm about half way through the season, episodes 2-4 were very enjoyable, but episode 5 was simply godawful
it's not only that they failed in building tension throughout the episode (a strange community with a secret, yeah it's not like we haven't seen that in TWD or other postapocalyptic tv shows and movies), the worst part was when how the cult suddenly decided to uncover they have cannibalistic rituals and allowed the party to leave after the "lottery" (!!) and they did nothing after getting their weapons back, plus they had a former scientist taking part in that shit.
I'm just glad they closed that storyline.

I'm just glad they closed that toryline.
And then the scientist, when he was thrown out of the crazy cannibal cult, went after the group just so he could commit suicide infront of them rather than tell them any of the vast array of useful information he would have had.

Man, is it just me or is the acting quite terrible? Halfway through the first episode, it all feels unnaturally staged in a way I haven't really experienced before. Maybe it's the language, was this recorded in English originally or is it a dub? I'll switch for the next episode and see I guess. I was kinda intrigued by the trailer and am generally a sucker for these type of shows/movies

I watched like 20-30 minutes and don't want to keep watching. can someone who watched it just summarize what happens in the end?
Where did the virus come from (though I think I can guess from the first episode), do they cure it, does the dad actually come back

Basically, the big evil corporation (who the dad works for) released the virus into the clouds originally, although it's unclear to me whether the outbreak was an accident or it was being tested on purpose. This was actually only localised to presumably Denmark and Sweden, so the rest of the world is fine; there is a massive Trumpwall built to the north to prevent the virus from spreading. We find out in episode 6 that the rain isn't infectious anymore although a stray dog was still able to carry the virus.

The Dad has been alive the whole time, working with the evil organisation to find a cure. Unfortunately, his methods seem to be limited to injecting people with the virus and hoping it doesn't kill them. He doesn't have much luck in this regard for 6 years, although the 'strangers' (evil organisation goons) keep him topped up with plenty of freshly captured survivors to study. Coincidentally the son, Rasmus, was immune the whole time. Dad pretended Rasmus had died, because they could only extract the antibodies/cure from his brain, which would have been fatal. Blindly hoping the somebody else was randomly immune was evidently justification for killing dozens, or hundreds more people (after the initial outbreak) so Rasmus could live.

Rasmus originally had a dormant version of the virus inside of him, but he eventually becomes infected with the real one. This was probably from the dog licking him initially, but he also injected himself to prove he was immune. Unfortunately he becomes really contagious after this as well. Some PMC goon randomly kissed him on the forehead and died a bit later. Rasmus also bit a nurse, which inevitably killed her.

Anyway, in the last episode the protagonists group are brought to a base for the evil corporation, by the wall. This is actually where we find out about Dad being alive and well. Various events conspire which results in Simone (the daughter) escaping from the base with Rasmus and the rest of the group. Dad tries to stop them due to Rasmus being dangerously contagious, and non-fatally shoots a guy in the group. Simone knocks Dad to the ground and they all escape into a car.

Now the scooby gang drive to an exit in the wall to escape into the real world. Unfortunately the goons are lying in wait at the exit. Anyway, after a pleasantly non-violent discussion, the scooby gang find out that most of them now have nano-capsules in their body which are satellite activated and will kill them if they pass beyond the wall (they were given 'vitamin supplements' to drink when they arrived at the evil base). Deciding that they were going to stick together no matter what, the scooby gang drive away from the wall and back into the wasteland. The goons vow that they will get those pesky kids next time, obviously Rasmus was the insurance who they still need alive.

There was a revelation near the end; there is round table board meeting at the evil corporation's HQ where they have a hologram on the desk showing clouds. They talk about their plans to create the the perfect weaponised virus, which will obviously make them lots of money and provide good value for shareholders. There is only the small matter of catching Rasmus so the plan can be brought into effect and the world made a better place.

Well I think that's about the gist of it. There's variously other plot points, developments and character backstory, but I think I've touched on most of the important points.

Not watching because Subtitles?

Narcos is laughing its ass off.
I watched with English audio but had English subtitles on as sometimes I had it on in the background whilst wearing a headset. One thing I noticed is that more often than not the subtitles don't match up with the actual dialogue, so I assume the subtitles are actually from one of the other language scripts.
But something I don't get is that there were often prolonged sections where people on-screen are clearly talking, but subtitles were just missing entirely, sometimes even for entire scenes. I've seen this on Amazon Prime before, their subtitles are absolutely awful (when the title actually has them, they still have multiple titles with no subtitles at all) and you'll often see the subtitle just say "inaudible", but this is the first time I've seen such major subtitling issues from Netflix, and given that it's a Netflix original there's really no excuse.

The only times I noticed the subs were missing is when they actually talk in english. Couldn't make out what they were saying. I didn't watch the dub though, just had the native danish audio on.

True, I just had higher expectations for someone who tried to save the world. :) And it's not only that, it's also what Lagamorph wrote about how that episode ended with his completely pointless

Sarted watching this and it's pretty good. Only 1 bad episode so far. Won't say wich one but it seems obvious.

(I'm at episode 7 now).

Edit: Wait, some people watched the dubbed version? Wtf. Original is the way to go people. Btw, unpopular opinion but I love the music.

Yeah so episodes 6-8 were disappointing and generally not where I hoped the show would go...
episode 6 was okayish but it's strange to have the rain not be a problem anymore (at least for the time being) in a show called The Rain ;)
episode 7 had a decent amount of bullshit scenes with The Strangers, first they're still the bad buys, then they're suddenly the good guys and they agree to the exchange out of nowhere
episode 8 was like watching a Resident Evil tv show with their version of the Umbrella Corporation

Also with how it ended I'm really not looking forward to season 2.
At least for most of season 1 they had some purpose to find their dad and to go that bunker in Sweden, now there's nothing except for avoiding capture and some drama concerning Rasmus being contagious - although not being to touch anyone isn't a good longterm solution for his character. ;)

I'd like to hope Season 2 handles flashbacks a bit better. Flashbacks just suddenly came out of nowhere and you wouldn't even be aware it was a flashback at first.
Just have a "before the rain" caption or something at least.

Just finished and while I found the acting and voicing got better, JFC at the ending. I'd love to have seen at least a glimpse of the "other side" and while I guess the second to last scene revealed enough the whole setup still doesn't make much sense. Lol

Well, here's to hope this is wrapped up in an eventual season 2 and doesn't become another The Strain-tragedy.

I like the premise.

But holy fuck is her brother fucking stupid. I hope he dies soon. That whole driving in the Freeway was so terrible.

I just watched the first episode, and liked it quite a bit. The sister and brother are awfully stupid though, and I hope that will improve. Please don't spoil anything for me!

I would've preferred it if they hadn't dubbed it. It takes me out of the show. Subtitles would've been much better. Dubs ruin things.

The premise is great.
