You know, this might still be my favorite anime OST song of last year:

But I will be damned if I don't laugh at that stupid long ass title every damn time.
47184075-d2e2-401f-9xzoep.jpeg

Don't know if it fully counts as an "anime OST song" if it's a cover of a still-popular 600+ year old folk ballad, hahahaha. Can't wait for Attack on Titan to open with a Linked Horizons rendition of Green Sleeves. ;))) No, but seriously -- that's a pretty version of it.

And that title. Where did the super long sentence/phrase thing come from as a common practice in Japanese pop fiction titling? Do most of these end up with widely accepted shorthand names among fan communities or do people generally rattle off the whole paragraph-long title when referring to it?

Can a fellow pervert explain to me the whole deal with High School DxD Season 3? I heard they really compressed things from the Light Novel and skipped a bunch of stuff as well? I just rewatched season 1 (had originally watched it when it aired) and now finally watched season 2. About to start on season 3, but I want to know what I'm getting into and should be aware of.

Also how is the High School DxD Light Novel not being published in English? A bunch of lesser known series are getting their light novels officially published in English, but somehow High School DXD isn't? The only thing released her in print is the manga.
I dont think anything from that ln publisher has been licensed.

Really wanted tokyo ravens and 35th test platoon and legend of the legendary heroes. Date a live would be nice.

Mahou Shoujo Site - 01

I caught this on the Twitch Presents stream, knowing that watching it with Twitch chat would soften a bit of the edginess and make it ever so slightly more watchable.

If there is any one anime that owtheedge.jpg is most appropriate for, this has to be a candidate close to the top of the list. I was already spoiled on the events in this episode beforehand but it is actually so over-the-top in viewing that it beggars belief. The bullies, at least, are somewhat believable in the context of Japan's culture being particularly vulnerable to that sort of behavior, but the brother raises serious questions, and then you throw the kitten murder and rapist on top of that, and it's just like... yeah, um, laying it on a wee-bit thick there, I think.

I actually like exploring the lives of suicidally depressed protagonists, but this is definitely not meant to be a nuanced take on the subject. I admit, though, I'm kind of curious to see where it all leads, even though at this point my suspension of disbelief is thoroughly shattered and I'm more interested in its construction of absurd events than anything else. Not the sort of thing I'd ever want to make a repeat viewing of, either.

Wait, Twitch Presents did Mahou Shoujo Site? Damn, would have loved to see reactions. There a VOD or reupload anywhere?

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card 1-3

This is really good coming off the original, perfect even! The animation is sogood.gif, all the VAs match exactly, music and design are top notch. The writing is super quick, not sure if that's just due to it being early and we'll get more "monster of the week"-ish soon but after marathoning the original's filler it doesn't really bother me.

Why are we still hiding Kero from Toya though? He knows, guys.

Also, for anyone further in the anime/manga -- I know this will be 2 cours and that the manga is still quite short and ongoing. Does it look like we're getting filler + early end or are they adapting everything and leaving us to wait forever for the next season or have to go read the manga?

It starts quick because the manga started even quicker, but then it slows down a lot.

Ohkawa, CLAMP's writer, is writing each anime episode, even showing important stuff that is not yet in the manga (perhaps it won't). My theory is that the endings will be similar. Kobato-style.

I haven't watched Kobato so forgive me; you're talking about a parallel similar ending to the manga? Ala Game Of Thrones "the book isn't released but we know how its ends" kind of deal?

Yes! It happened with Kobato. The anime will end 4 months before the manga, so CLAMP has to keep people interested, so I believe they will be different, but not in a huge way.

Hinamatsuri

The comedy from this show just completely hits me.

Hina's complete oblivious aloof attitude is just great.

That's not a bad way to brainwash a bunch of high school boys. Not really up on the girl who was seemingly abused by her boyfriend is what she wants to go back to, but maybe that'll change before the end. Next week looks like when more of the actual battles start instead of the crazy mental games.

So all the D-Pilots are great, but Hisone is actually the worst (at communication). All of the D-Pilots and their quirky natures really make the show for me. Even Hoshino, who you can empathize with even if she's going about accomplishing what she seeks the completely wrong way.

Well I kinda enjoyed it so I won't drop it yet. As soon as it goes back to the same way it was in the previous episodes then it's dropped.

Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future 24

Okay, I know I've been a proponent of taking those magic jumps literally, but I didn't expect the show to back me up that much. So those Aurora Dream shorts were canon? According to Pretty Rhythm lore there's an entire clothes kingdom inside the stone maker. And the only people that know about it are mascots, megane-chan, and now Prizmmy and Puretty. Except they may have blown up the kingdom? And they actually did use the jumps to fight? And Yamada is a mascot? And what was Bonby's role in all this? And why is Mia still getting away with basically everything? Does this mean Aira really is an actual god? So many questions this raises, and this can't exactly just be brushed off as silly filler given that they got an important item from it. This season has gone full on crazy I think.

Cardcaptor Sakura The Movie 2: Fuuin Sareta Card

A beautiful way to tie up the series. Good action, good drama, good blushing Sakura, good confessions (interrupted and otherwise).

And boy, were there a lot of interrupted confessions. My new theory is that the Curse of Interrupted Confessions is actually contagious. Ruby originally cursed Touya with it, then he somehow infected Syaoran, who finally passed it on to Sakura. Yeah, that makes sense.

But yeah, basically all the show's characters were on top form in this movie. Kero-chan seemed to have even more energy than usual (and that's not even counting the epic takoyaki battle from the post-credits bonus feature). Tomoyo had the nerve to suggest a costume change immediately after everyone they know and love had just been wiped from existence (but she prepared matching costumes for Sakura and Syaoran, so it was totes worth it). Yukito was as big a sweetheart as ever, and it's always kinda cool to see him fully aware and accepting of his own alter ego. Meilin…didn't get to do that much, but she at least existed, which is more than she got to do for most of the latter half of the series.

Oh, and the play that Sakura's class were putting on for the festival was pretty cool too, even if it did kind of get cut short by the impromptu annihilation of everyone involved. Not sure how they're going to explain that one away. But ending or no ending, it was worth it if only for Sakura's princess costume. I'm sure Tomoyo and Syaoran would both back me up on that one.

Where's the neo new Cardfight!! Vanguard posts? Curious on thr new changes and style.

Was sure im not the only cfVanguard viewer here.
I thought it had a better first episode than the original series.

I'm watching it, but there's really not much to say when they're essentially just remaking season 1. Admittedly I think s1 was the best season, but i'm not sure why they're remaking it so i'm Reserving judgement for now
This version is more in line with the manga and now the series airs at 10:30 pm in Japan, which means they can probably get away with a bit more than the other series did.

Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future 25

So aside from everyone trying to kill Asechi by cooking her a get well meal (too bad MARs, Callings, and Serenon couldn't join the fun), we also learned that her family is once again the source of all things horrible in the Prism Show world. Instead of her mother pushing people way too far and nearly sending them to hell, it's her father milking the industry for his own greed and profit and calling upon something evil apparently. Something that the inventor of the Aurora Rising fears. Well that's got a lot to live up to. Also, Bonby is apparently evil? I never did like him.

Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future 28

There have been surprising moments in this series, but nothing has matched this. I must admit it is amazing to see a couple actually grow and get married while a show is still ongoing. Rhythm may not be a main character anymore, but she and Hibiki are still at the point where I absolutely did not see them being already hitched. And before Asechi too lol. Now this justifies the season being a direct sequel. Nice to see that Kanon has also appropriately matured. Not exactly an industry where you can be openly married, something that has seeded the series for a long time, but the industry has grown, and Rhythm of all people would know why keeping relationships secrets is an awful idea. Good for those two. And now there's less sympathy for wishy-washy Sho. He's had plenty of chances to get with Aira, and now he's jealous some other guy has her attention when he hasn't done anything. If he's still holding off on that I can't blame her for hiking off with a new partner.

I can't believe a horse girl anime got me all teary. This franchise is shaping up to be a potent money maker. "BUY THE TASUKETE DLC FOR $1,000 TO PROTECT YOUR MUSUME". You bet your ass I will.

Goldship and McQueen make a great comedic duo. I wanna see McQueen race already. Her outfit from the intro looks pretty bad ass. I'm also glad that things didn't stay gloomy for long and Special Week was able to inject optimism and positivity into the situation. ECP probably doesn't even count this as a victory.

Also, I think the most fucked up thing about the world in Uma Musume is that the girls aren't profiting from the merchandise using their likeness. Silence Suzuka should be ballin since all her stuff is constantly sold out. It's like the NCAA found itself in another world. Ugh.

It's astounding how much better both the drama and comedy have gotten in this season.

Catchup Post mk II

My Hero Academia S3 4

Love that the Stain stuff still has repercussions like Spinner keeping Deku alive since he's been deemed worthy.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby 7

oh no

Lupin III Part 5 4

Amy sure seems like she's come out of her shell after this ep. We'll see if she stays so emotive when it's not a life or death situation.

Lupin III Part 5 5

Gentleman-thief Lupin is def my fave but disrespected Lupin eager to teach people a harsh lesson is my second favorite variety. I've no idea how part 4 played out but if part 5 is basically 4 specials that'd be pretty cool.

Megalo Box 4

Certainly didn't expect Sachio to be the linking element between Joe and Nanbu. Also didn't expect Joe to have this much trouble but I guess he is an amateur going pro despite his underground experience.

Feels like they're rushing through these preliminary fights too but figure that just means Megalonia is going to be given plenty of time to play out.

Megalo Box 5

I can see why Jex didn't care for this ep. After four episodes of this almost explicitly being Joe's story he's suddenly sidelined for an outsider who exists to round out Nanbu's character. It's like hitting an unexpected speed bump in how disruptive it is and I suspect we'll get similar episodes for both Sachio and Joe himself. It's ostensibly a two-parter since the fight wasn't resolved so maybe Nanbu will grow as a character, cease his handwringing, point Joe to the path of victory, and fully focus his one good eye on the future rather than constantly glancing at the past.

Legend of Galactic Heroes: Die Nueue These 4

They somehow made Yang's past even more boring than it already was. Impressive.

Legend of Galactic Heroes: Die Nueue These 5

Everything on the Free Planets Alliance side of the adaptation these past two eps feels really clumsy. It's a stark contrast from the focused Reinhard stuff since a lot of the dry humor in the book surrounding Yang's role in these events is largely absent. It was amusing they included the Frederica bit though.

There, finally current again.

Dragon Ball Super 28-30

Something tells me this series is not going to be kind to a Gohan fan like me.

Depends on what your expectations are for Gohan. If you like him and you're not mad that he's not the strongest character in the universe, then you'll probably be satisfied with him by the end.

Dang it, I missed Bungou Stray Dogs Desd Apple, thought it was next week.
I also missed The Cat Returns last month.

By any chance is there a site that has a simple listing of upcoming anime movie showtimes?

I remember laughing at how much money the students at MHA generate for UA (like during that tournament in S2) but they also get nothing but room and board. Creating a school sounds like a great way to get rich.

My favourite one of these is the Love Live episode where they're out and about and excited that there's merch of them on sale in Akihabara instead of, you know, fucking pissed that they signed over their likeness rights at some point (probably when they entered Love Live).

Even Nico who is a idol otaku and really should know more about the business side of shit than she does.

It's a song created for an anime that is part of it's OST. And an integral part of the emotional story beats of the show, at that.

So yes, it fully qualifies.

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card-hen Prologue

And here's the alternate universe where Syaoran didn't infect Sakura with the Curse of Interrupted Confessions. Also a beautiful ending…and a beautiful beginning.

If I had one issue with the movie's version of events, it was that by ending on the confession it deprived us of the opportunity to see Sakura and Syaoran being absolutely adorable together. So I'm extremely glad this new series exists to comprehensively solve that issue.
