I'm a kickstarter backer and got the game at launch for PS4 but it didn't really take that long until I got bored of it. But I suppose I should give it a new chance some time.

it was pretty good just wasn't a fan of the looting thing, make the game a little too unbalance for my taste.

Was really looking forward to playing this on the Switch. But, I came across it for XB1 for less than $15 and I couldn't resist. I'm really enjoying the game. It is a very old school, turn based RPG. If you like those you will probably love this.

I have really been enjoying this game. I guess it's old news for many of you but this is my first time playing and I've been so pleasantly surprised. Such a great old-school RPG, and the overcharge system reminds me a bit of combat in Octopath Traveler.

Performance is solid. Loading times seem frequent and long, but once you're in a dungeon you don't see many. Frame rate can definitely drop in certain parts of certain dungeons or exploration areas, but in combat everything is smooth and looks fantastic. Animations are fluid and expressive.

Can't put my finger on resolutions. Things can look a bit soft or aliased in exploration areas, but it hasn't struck me as an obvious flaw at all. Not sure if the resolution is native docked / handheld, but it doesn't look bad at all; again, especially in combat.

Thanks for your impressions! Interested in reading more after the embargo lifts on the 11th. Sounding pretty good so far.

With all the patches for this on PS4 is this worth the $20 it's currently on sale for? Are there cheap deaths? I was watching a 'tuber play and there are waves(wtf!?) are there many battles with waves, it seems like a stupid thing to have in turnbased RPGs.

It doesn't seem like there are that many of those kinds of battles, but I'm only like five to six hours in. I find them kind of refreshing as they're definitely more of a challenge.

What are the three best characters to use and break the game? Don't really fancy levelling up characters that aren't levelled trying to figure out whose best. The game doesn't level up characters that aren't in your party even after these patches. PS4 here.

Great game though.

I just beat this last night. I never switched out the beginning 3. I beat it with Calibretto, Gully, and Garrison. At level 30, with their ultimate weapons equipped and their level 3 burst moves and 120 perk points each, they were pretty dominating. Cleared the whole end game without having to try anything twice.

Is there some way to check the lore real quick, like a consistently good youtube-video or something? Can anyone recommend something like that?

Haven't read the comics but really interested about the game.

I HIGHLY recommend new game plus now for you. The challenge is pushed up to the point the game keeps you on your toes. The first time through is on the easy side...but with the recent patched New Game Plus, which raised the difficulty, it is perfect.

I went with the first 3 characters and never used the others. Well, maybe 5% of the time, just to check out their moves.

I find Garrison, Knolan and Alumon the best. I used the team up to my platinum, Alumon is especially good iirc

Santa Destroy
Difficulty spike is real.

I'm at dungeon in the Moors and I've failed like 3 times already. I was slightly above the level of every dungeon prior, now I'm 3-4 levels below and I'm struggling to beat even 1 of these necromancers by the time I get to it. Yeesh.

I've been playing on the middle difficulty but I may have to drop it.

Running Gully, Monika, Alumon

Same here. There was is so much potential, and I hope it sold enough for them to continue. All I want to see is a better Overworld that doesnt look like just a board game lol, and maybe a better overall story.

So this game is totally amazing. I haven't been addicted to a game this year apart from this and God of War.

I highly recommend you check it out. It's like a love letter (a good one) to turn based JRPGs.

I really hope they make a sequel to it or a follow up with just slightly refined mechanics. Any news on one? I would happily fund its KS.

Anyway I just beat the fifth dungeon (playing on heroic) my party is Garrison, Callibretto and the women whose good at stealth. Her name escapes me but her execute skill is great.

I love the strategy in battles how every move counts, debuffs are so important but so is a good offence. The balance is sooo good in this game. The slight element of luck with crit chances and evasion is cool. I think I'm some ways it's better than older turn based JRPGs. I simply don't remember them having as much depth or strategy in their combat system. In most JRPGs you could just keep executing the attack command to plot your way through most battles even when you entered new dungeons. In this game you'll get your ass kicked if you don't have the proper setup. Levels aren't as important in this. What matters is your perks, gear but most definately perks. A combination of the right perks where the perks work and compliment each other between the three party members can have deadly consequences for the enemy. Like I can apply a bleeding effect to the enemy but this can be linked to higher critical chances while the enemy is bleeding with another party member. So if you plan your attacks you can do massive damage in the tougher fights.

There's a few things I don't like though. the characters not in your party don't level up so this means you're kinda forced to stick to the three you use most. I enjoy using them but it wouldn't have hurt if the game wasn't so against you trying different members. It works against the game. You also can't even equip anyone who isn't in your party either which is lame.leaves you with a cluttered loot bag.

There's a few weird mechanics like the crafting. I don't really understand it. Is it better to craft, loot or buy gear? Crafting lets me make weapons but they aren't ever that great unless I get them to 300%. there's also enchanting I see in some dungeons. Is this randomly generated in dungeons? Can't I enchant outside instead of finding it randomly. I just think it's odd. It's also odd you have to go to the smithy to craft after paying him tons of money to let you.

The loading is also a bit annoying (on pro) but not enough to be a pain. Enemy variety could be a bit higher too instead of palette swaps. My only other gripe is the story too. It's just nothing special and I find myself quickly skimming through the optional dialogue and codex documents simply because it's not interesting or essential. I only watch read or watch the main story stuff but even that is nothing special either.

The rest of the game where it matters most is fabulous though. Great art style and animations (who did the amazing art and why is it this good?), great music (love Jesper Kyd's work) and amazing addictive strategic combat system.

I plan to platinum it and playing on heroic difficulty first is a perfect balance of strategy.

Looking forward to new game plus for sure. But won't be starting it until I've done all optional stuff in my first playthrough.

Thats one of the big issues that I have with the game. They have tried to remedy this with updates, but it still makes it difficult to try out new party combinations imo. It really needed a XP share item or something.

I think alot of the other problems are mainly just due to their budget, along with being developed on an older version of Unity.

Glad your enjoying it though! Really need to get back to playing it after I finish Wallenstein.

I really hope they make a sequel to it or a follow up with just slightly refined mechanics. Any news on one? I would happily fund its KS.

Hope they dont have to do another Kickstarter, but I am totally down to support one if they do. Original Sin 2 had one though, so it doesnt seem like a bad idea. Ive asked JoeMad on twitter about a sequel, but I think its still to early.

It's great but it has an extremely problematic balance issue.
Levels have to much importance.
Gear matters but but levels should have just been about stat difference not difficulty slider.
That plus half of the team needs grind to be able to use everyone.

Only half year has passed. How many Turn base RPG did we see during that time ?
Can't remember any other than this and Octopath.

Edit : ok, just saw it's actually a pretty old thread.
