I really have to admire the effort people go into to make these rumours up, I don't think I could be bothered.

There are several things we know about Retro's project that would fit the Star Fox adventure-rpg game: the scifi writers, a possible multiplayer infrastructure, the 3D open world designers... even both composers fit in the project (Alexander Brandon due to his conexion with futuristic games, and David Wise being the man behind Star Fox Adventures soundtrack). And I've always said that since up to this point Retro Studios have worked with space bountyhunters and furry animals, the logical step for them would be working with furry animals that are space bountyhunters.

However... I don't think it suit that well to Emily's description. After all, and adventure game is nothing like a conflictive genre at all and it wouldn't need "fans of that particular genre" in order to be liked or excited about it, since its a kind of game that a lot of people would feel attracted to. In fact, Star Fox series has already had entries in that genre, so it's not particularly disassociated with it.

Wait, does it say that was posted yesterday?

Seems awfully convenient somebody would write that after Emily said on here about an old ip within a new genre.

I don't know if this is posted yet.

Just discovered a rumor thread on r/NintendoSwitch that talks about a new Star Fox title from Retro. The rumor originates from IGN forum.

http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/nintendo-direct-e3-leaks.455129347/page-2#post-516949262

Basically, Star Fox: Mass Effect.

Edit: Anyway, it is a random rumor so take it with a grain of salt. The poster said Retro is working on another Donkey Kong and Shin'en is making F-zero too.
please don't spread these obviously made-up by some kid rumors ............FROM THE IGN FORUMS lol

E3 presentations don't leak. Not over a month in advance (or ever actually). You know better than this.

Even though it's fake. I'll buy it.

It is more believable than the NX controller lol

Just want to start a discussion because the idea is quite interesting even though it is probably fake.

Casual sports game with DK.

I think it will be something that confuses people and makes them think '5 years for that?!'

Yeah, agreed, although I would say that Star Fox's entries into the adventure genre have been lukewarm to say the least. A full blown adventure, or even adventure shooter for a franchise best known for space combat would raise a few eyebrows.

For my money, Star Fox is the best fit, despite the terri-fake IGN random forumite rumour. Nintendo is very, very aware of its franchise power and using that to help combat the hardware power differential. Star Fox once commanded a lot of currency but that's diminished with a handful of poorly received games. Giving it to the golden child of Retro to reinvent makes sense, and expanding it into something which isn't just a shooter (and hopefully broadening its appeal, plus making use of Retro's skillset) would be viable.

As a franchise, Star Fox is very open to genre switching as well, although hard-core fans would baulk given most of the non shooter Star Fox games haven't been great.

Whatever it is, process of elimination can help reduce the types of genre is could be, though. In short, if it steps on the toes of anything releasing near the same 12 months from a 1st party studio, then it's unlikely, even from a marketing point of view. So not likely to be a 2D platformer, turn based strategy, beat em up, and with Pokemon and Metroid announced it won't be enchroching on their genres either...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how a Star Fox action/adventure game would add to the Retro/Rare parallelisms. Boy, has that game fallen into oblivion.

It's definitely what fits best into the hints Emily gave, though I suspect the amount of people who still care about that IP these days is often overestimated.

StarFox is like the most common response to these hints, lol.

I think F-Zero action adventure is more likely though.

I meant I've seen many people mention the possibility Star Fox adventure game but not the fact that it would be the second time in a row where Retro follow on Rare's footsteps. The 'rumor' in that IGN post even echoes the development of Star Fox Adventures, with an unrelated, original game being repurposed as a Star Fox one.

F-Zero? Now that's an uninteresting world to work with.

if Donkey Kong and Metroid had a baby it'd look like Star Fox so that's naturally going to be the most common guess

I agree with David Sr. that an open-world Star Fox WRPG wouldn't actually be that different from the typical genre (and spinoffs thereof aka Dinosaur Planet) to fit Emily's hints. Though like Emily said, that info might not be right. But that hint is what's leading to Star Fox in the first place so I don't really think that fits.

No idea though. Pikmin can be kinda sci-fi. What if it's a Pikmin RPG or space exploration game.

The new president has said and similar statements have always been: Nintendo focuses on offering what they can only

They do not have the slightest interest in making a game like Uncharted

I mean, Nintendo's first unanimous GotY since Metroid Prime was last year and was basically "what if Nintendo did Skyrim"

And their biggest new franchise in a decade is a shooter ;)

I need someone to explain to me how it makes sense for them to make a huge, expensive spin-off in a franchise that sells like doo-doo.

1. Retro makes a huge, expensive new IP.
2. Miyamoto: "But what if this were StarFox/F-Zero"

I guess they think the brand power from StarFox/F-Zero is positive and better than making this a new IP.

I should have clarified, I meant an explanation that makes sense.

Star Fox Zero went straight to bomba land so Miyamoto hijacks Retro's game? They went to Criterion for an F-Zero game on Wii U and when that didn't work they made an action adventure?

Like, c'mon.

I dont think it's brand power as much as it's desire to make the brands relevant again for whatever reason.

At least with Star Fox, branding it as such gives you immediate access to an aesthetic that stands out

That rumor doesn't make sense as I do not see, at all, Nintendo developing two console Star Fox titles simultaneously, with this new "Lylat System" game supposedly originally being released a year after Star Fox Zero (and revealed near the time of that games released) before getting delayed. That timeline makes no sense.

Yeah that rumor looks like nonsense for various reasons. The Star Fox part sounds like a fanboy wet dream, and the Donkey Kong name is ridiculous. Then they feel the need to drop the F-Zero info that has no relation to Retro. Best to disregard it.

Anyway, I still think its best not to believe any Retro rumors.

Here is something worth considering:

2013, 2015 and 2016 Nintendo released 2 Zelda games each.

2014 we only got Hyrule Warriors.
2017 we only got Breath of the Wild.

If the games were remakes, ports or heavily reused assets, we got two Zeldas. So far they've only announced Hyrule Warriors DX so I wouldn't be surprised if we get another remake of sorts or even a mobile Zelda game.

Didn't someone (reputable) report that they were planning to launch a mobile Zelda this year? Or this FY at least?

Anyway I'd love any console Zelda but I'm not getting my hopes up. A Majora's Mask style BotW sequel would be incredible.

Retro is working on an old Nintendo franchise but with a completely different genre according to Emily.

So far theories have included:

F-Zero open world action adventure game with lots of punching (maybe like Batman: Arkham Knight but less serious)
StarFox RPG
StarFox squad based on foot shooter
Advance Wars FPS
DK open world action adventure game with lots of punching

no need to worry, it's just random ass speculation based on ultra-generic hints. as usual.

one thing is always for sure: people will overhype retro's next game in their imagination and then throw a fit when it's Yonkey Dong again.

Let's talk about Monolith Soft's new project.

I doubt there'll be mechs (I seriously regret making that topic...). The mechs are a staple of the Xeno series and would do nothing but make a connection to the Xenoblade series and supposedly a project far different from their brand image.

Whatever it is it is going to be great.

I'm playing Tropical Freeze right now and between what they have been able accomplish in Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong, these guys deserve all the hype and ceaseless speculation.

I know it's probably not a Dark Souls clone like the promotional art seems to suggest but I really want to see a Nintendo take on Souls.

It's definitely a new IP from the looks of it. There shouldn't be any ties to Xeno.

I've been expecting something Zelda soon-ish.
The Link's Awakening Remake if that's real or Skyward Sword remake early next year.
Mobile Zelda was also rumored as well

No ties to the Xeno series might mean Takahashi has a smaller role, or (though I doubt it) perhaps no role.

This thinking might be a bit irrational: once Takahashi is gone, Monolith Soft is going to need a new IP. The Xeno series is Takahashi's baby and I can't imagine the series going forward without him. It's possible they're taking action to groom a new generation of talented artists and developers for their new IP going forward.

Maybe I'm overthinking things and they'll continue making more Xenoblade games alongside their new IP with or without Takahashi. One thing for sure is that Monolith Soft's future is going to be a bit more clear when they release their new title.

I would think Takahashi is grooming someone. He's getting up there in age. They'll need new blood to take over and move up the ranks. Kyoto wants to make games as they get bigger in the future too.

I'm extremely excited about their new game since it is different. It's great to learn and get details on a companies new game.
