Yep, I completely agree with this. There was something special about the first season that I had to keep watching the next episode one after the other. I didn't get that feeling in seasons 2 and 3. But I am glad that it's going out on its own terms.
Yeah I feel the same, first season being 22 minute episodes were the best. S2 dragged and S3 couldn't keep my attention despite liking the style of humour. I'll return to it, but I feel like it'll be a slog.

Could 'Big Bang Theory,' 'Modern Family' or 'The Goldbergs' End Next Season?

The Big Bang Theory is heading into its 12th season in the fall after producers Warner Bros. Television inked the cast to new deals last year. Chuck Lorre told The Hollywood Reporter in August that "[o]ne could easily presume [season 12] would be the end of the series," while acknowledging that producers never imagined they'd get to season 11.

Sources say WBTV and CBS have had some conversations about potentially continuing the series beyond season 12, which would require signing the stars to new mega-deals, though a decision could be made post-upfronts.

In terms of Modern Family, the pending $52.4 billion Fox-Disney deal is expected to play a larger role in talks between ABC and 20th Century Fox Television about whether the comedy will run beyond its upcoming 10th season. Co-creator and co-showrunner Steve Levitan previously said was the "plan is to end it at 10," though that was before producers 20th Century Fox Television were poised to become a Disney property should the deal close as expected. That would eliminate one of the biggest obstacles to the show's renewal, with ABC no longer left to pay a sizable licensing fee to 20th TV for the series. What's more, it would incentivize ABC to renew the star-studded comedy for a potential 11th season and boost its own bottom line.

Complicating matters is the fact that Levitan and co-creator/co-showrunner Christopher Lloyd's overall deals with 20th TV expire this month, with sources noting that Netflix has set its sights on the former for a lucrative pact. ABC would then have to sign the cast and potentially its creators to sizable pacts.

As for The Goldbergs, the 1980-something-set series was renewed for two seasons last year and is heading into its sixth season.

"The last episode is Adam's [Sean Giambrone] high school graduation, which marks the end of his childhood," Goldberg told THR last year. "I'd love to go beyond season six, but it will always be set in the '80s. We have yet to run out of any videos of mine, and there's just so much from that decade I love."

Keeping one or both The Goldbergs and Modern Family around would be beneficial for ABC, which is wrapping veteran comedy The Middle and tentpole dramas Once Upon a Time and Scandal and as its studio counterpart could lose Black-ish creator Kenya Barris to Netflix.

From the article:

Sources say WBTV and CBS have had some conversations about potentially continuing the series beyond season 12, which would require signing the stars to new mega-deals to return to the comedy from Steve Molaro and showrunner Steve Holland, though a decision could be made post-upfronts.

Is that "Savage" Steve Holland- the director of "Better Off Dead" and "One Crazy Summer"?

I can definitely see Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory ending next year. They are getting waaay too long in the tooth at this point. For Modern Family, I think the 2-season renewal that was announced for seasons 9 and 10 (this year and next year) was part of that strategy. Plus, the ratings for the show are the lowest it's ever been. For The Big Bang Theory, it's still doing extremely well. Any other network show would love to get the kinds of ratings TBBT has, and for a show that's currently in its 11th season, those numbers are unheard of. But I don't think any Chuck Lorre show has gone on that long. I think Two and a Half Men is the only other show of his to last for 12 seasons, and now he'll have 2 shows to reach that level.

However, I don't see The Goldbergs ending next year. ABC still needs it to prop up the spinoff they're developing, and it's going to be their third-highest rated comedy once The Middle ends. I don't think ABC is ready to let that show go yet unless they suddenly start developing ratings gold like they did with Roseanne.

Yep, agree with G_Shumi. The Goldbergs will probably stick around, and I can maybe see The Big Bang Theory getting a truncated final season after the upcoming season, just for the heck of it (and maybe minus a cast member). That's a full on guess, though.

But of the three, I think the curtain is closing first on Modern Family. It's been a hell of a run, even if I tuned out during season four.

If all three decide to leave, those are some massive comedy holes, made even more concerning for ABC if Kenya Barris is able to go to Netflix.

Modern Family will probably end soon, but I wouldn't be so sure with TBBT. Yeah signing new contracts will cost CBS a lot, but it's not like outside of that the show is expensive to make and it's still one of their top rated shows. Plus they have a good combo now with Young Sheldon = a full hour of good ratings.

The fact that a show as bad as Big Bang Theory has not only lasted this long but has remained as highly watched as it has saddens me greatly. Please end it, CBS.

Also, I would love for Kimmy Schmidt to last for 12 seasons, I've loved all 3 of its seasons so far. The fact that this coming season is going to be split in half and the last also saddens me greatly.

I'm not even particularly familiar with the original Karate Kid (I've seen snippets and read the Wiki synopsis and that's it) and I'm still really enjoying it. First two episodes are free so might as well dive in.
At least watch the first one. Also, the beginning of the second one was actually cut from the first movie because they wanted it to end differently.

I might try but my attention span only lasts as long as a network drama (ie 42min), I struggle so hard to watch movies. Easier to consume this in 20-30 minute chunks.

I gave up on Modern Family after like season 3 I think, it was already veering into wacky hijinks/slapstick comedy back then. I can only imagine what it's like now.

Glad to hear that Cobra Kai is good, gonna watch it this weekend.

For those curious about Jeffrey Tambor being in Arrested Development for Season 5 despite being fired by Amazon Video for sexual misconduct from the show Transparent, Netflix has officially said that he will still be in:

http://tvline.com/2018/05/04/arrested-development-season-5-jeffrey-tambor-appearing-controversy/

A spokesperson for Netflix on Friday confirmed that actor Jeffrey Tambor will still appear in the upcoming fifth season of Arrested Development, despite previously being fired by Amazon in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations.

Tambor, who starred in the first four seasons of Amazon's Transparent, was officially terminated by the streaming giant in February, following a formal investigation into multiple harassment claims. Among his accusers was costar Trace Lysette, who back in November alleged that, in addition to making sexual comments to her, Tambor physically pressed his groin against her on set during Season 2. At the time he was fired, Tambor issued a statement, saying he was "profoundly disappointed" in Amazon and insisted that the investigation was "deeply flawed and biased toward the toxic politicized atmosphere that afflicted our set."

Up until now, it remained unclear what impact the allegations against Tambor would have on Arrested's Season 5 release. The second revival of the cult comedy had reportedly wrapped production by the time the allegations were first made public.

THR: 10 TV Pilots Likely to Score Series Pickups

Here's what they say about the bubble shows / renewal chances specifically.

FOX
On the bubble front, the network has only renewed three rookie dramas and Empire and still has decisions to make on Gotham (looking good), Lucifer (unlikely), Lethal Weapon (a stretch) and Star, with the latter appearing likely to return.

New Girl
is signing off this season and all eyes have turned to Universal Television's Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which has been leaning toward a renewal. Rookie L.A. to Vegas and sophomore comedy The Mick could also come back. Ghosted — starring Adam Scott and Craig Robinson — is likely done and Will Forte's Last Man on Earth may also be taking its last steps.

NBC
On the bubble side, midseason plays Good Girls and Rise could both go either way. James Spader has two years left on his Blacklist deal, with the Sony drama expected to return and possibly be packaged with L.A.'s Finest, which also hails from the independent studio. Blindspot is still in contention as well.

A.P. Bio has fans within the network; Champions is considered unlikely and it's too close to call for the Tina Fey-produced Great News, which became part of the critical conversation in its second season.

CBS
On the bubble side, Criminal Mindscould work another 11th hour pickup and there's been talk of the same for Alan Cumming drama Instinct. The same can't be said for Monday staple Scorpion or pricey Elementary, with the latter having to renegotiate contracts for its stars should it earn a surprising pickup.

bubble comedies Man With a Plan and Kevin Can Wait both expected back thanks in part to their big-name stars in Matt LeBlanc and Kevin James, respectively. Life in Pieces, from 20th TV (and likely soon Disney) and Superior Donuts are too close to tell.

ABC
On the bubble side, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD could rely on corporate synergy to score a sixth season; Designated Survivor will continue to survive; Shondaland's How to Get Away With Murder and Grey's spinoff Station 19 are also likely to return given Rhimes' move to Netflix; and it's too soon to tell on Quantico, though strong international appeal and a lucrative Netflix pact could make it an easy case for another short order. Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, Deception and For the People seem less likely.

On the bubble side, Speechless — which could become owned in-house — is expected to return, as is American Housewife and maybe midseason play Splitting Up Together. Fresh Off the Boatmay continue, especially if showrunner Nahnatchka Khan's Greatest American Hero is passed over. Alex Inc.seems unlikely to continue, sources say.

The CW
On the bubble side, The 100 and iZombie are too close to call, while Life Sentence and Valor are not expected back.

Yeah of course he would be. Future seasons are still a big question mark but they couldn't cut him out without rewrites, reshoots and delays.

Just replace George Sr with the guy who plays Oscar. They look similar enough anyway.

There are a bigger chances for The Originals spinoff than the Supernatural spinoff? I don't want to live on this planet anymore. :/ After 12 seasons they finally found a good idea for the spinoff, fans of Supernatural like the characters and it's a fresh idea instead of another reboot of an old show.

According to the producers, the funny thing about this season is it's going to end on a massive cliffhanger.

So if the show does end this season...it'll at least be a very controversial ending.

Some crazy stuff going on last couple eps... just ONE MORE. Give it a good ending.

Originals spinoff gives the CW a chance to a casting call for more young, attractive people. You think that they are capable of passing that up?

Why spinoff a series that has defied expectations and won't die. No they should green light a spinoff of a series that had such low ratings it's being ended. CW logic!

"Too close to call" is better than I expected for Great News so I'll take it as the smallest amount of optimism right now.

It makes more sense to attempt to keep the Vampire Diaries universe alive, so I understand why they'd be leaning towards it.

It isn't being ended by the network, just like vampire diaries wasn't. Almost every star wants to leave and their contracts are up so they have no choice. The hope spinoff is their way to continue the shows with the people that want to remain.

The point is these shows get much lower ratings then Supernatural. You would think they would want to spinoff the higher rated show not to mention that there has been much more hype around Wayward Sisters.

My opinion on the CW spin-offs is where I enjoy The Originals, don't really want to see the spin-off if Candice King doesn't reprise her role, and I mean as a series regular. Where I like Matt Davis, him alone isn't enough to carry the show/school, or even have some 'insert replacement Headmistress' to help him out. Besides, I really enjoy what Caroline has grown into. Used to hate the character, but once she became a vampire, and even more so as a mother, she has become one of my favorite characters in the TVD universe.

I would prefer to have both spin-offs, but if I had to choose between the two, I would much prefer to see Wayward Sisters. The set-up episode was strong, and I really like the characters involved.
