I'm on my phone so apologies for lack of copy/paste summarization but wanted to pass along this two parter:

It's a round table discussion from various TV critics such as Sepinwall, Seitz, Fienberg, VanDerWerff about what makes a good and bad finale. They discuss Mad Men, St Elsewhere, MASH, Breaking Bad, Sopranos and a few other odds and ends.

Please Jesus let BK99 get renewed. This season has been a glorious return to form

Also happy to see Jonathan Majors in Lovecraft country. I was interested in the series anyway with the pedigree but he really wowed me in hostiles. I swear I sat there thinking "who is THIS guy, he is goooood"

At the same time, I could see them writing a decent series ending with Jake and Amy getting married at the end of the current season.

This weeks Black-ish was pretty rough, but I appreciated it a lot. They always do a good job of getting across the weight of some stuff.

This was interesting, but I'm kind of bummed more wasn't discussed about The Shield finale. Sepinwall brings it up, which is good because it's one of the all time greats, but I'd like to have seen it discussed more in context of the Breaking Bad finale since I think there was a tendency to compare the two shows and I'd argue The Shield delivers a more effective finale than BB. Not that the BB end was bad, just that The Shield's end was that strong.

I recommend, if you haven't yet, to pick up Sepinwall & Seitz book "TV". The entire opening is them discussing what are the top 5 shows and they go really into what makes one better than the other. They each then take on writing about the shows from 1-100. Obviously the earlier stuff is more in depth, but it's a good look into how they differentiate shows from each other.

I suspect this is where you'll get the deeper dive you're looking for on Shield, BB.

New Girl is done this season so its possible that it would fit into the "gap" that would leave in the schedule

Hopefully Kaitlyn Dever gets a better show before that revival starts production again. Locked into a sitcom isn't fair to her.

Or they make an Uncharted game with her.

Damn people are actively changing the channel to get away from Alex Inc.

Meanwhile I'm finding it more enjoyable as it goes along, though it's not great by any means.

This is amazing. Losing Last Man Standing was so sad. Hope it's coming back.

FUCK YES

I don't give a fuck, I'm not American and I don't care about american politics, I found the show funny and I like Tim Allen.

Same

I thought about that but I think this season, The Mick and New Girl basically shared the same time frame in the same amount that a regular, full-season show did. And, while The Mick isn't doing that great either, I think Fox still wants to keep it on since they own the show and Kaitlin Olson works for them on two shows, so that would kind of mess up the relationship.

True, you're right. Do you think there would be a chance the shows would share a lineup again or is it possible The Mick would get a larger order to go as a full season

'What We Do In The Shadows' Reboot From Jemaine Clement & Taika Waititi Gets FX Series Order
FX has given a series order to a reboot of What We Do In The Shadows, the long-in-the-works half-hour comedy based on the 2014 mockumentary horror film co-written, co-directed by and starring Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. Clement is writer and executive producer on the TV adaptation, and Waititi will direct and executive produce. The project originally received a pilot order earlier this year. The pilot has now been picked up to series with a 10-episode first season slated to premiere in spring 2019.

Just finished Black Lightning, even the daughter was more competent than all the other CW heroes.
That series was darn great.

More news for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: this is its last season, with a movie planned after.

http://deadline.com/2018/05/unbreak...asons-movie-series-finale-netflix-1202380935/

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, whose fourth season premieres May 30, will be ending its run on Netflix, I have learned. I hear that the Internet network and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt producer Universal Television are in talks for a movie that would bring the praised series to an end.

Catherine Zeta-Jones To Star In 'Queen America' Series For Facebook

Set in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Queen America is a dark comedy about Vicki Ellis (Zeta-Jones), the most renowned (and ruthless) pageant coach in the state, and the hapless Samantha Stone who hopes Vicki can mold her into worthwhile contender for the title of Miss America. Vicki is desperately sought after by young women competing to be Miss America for one reason; she can turn any girl into a winner. But when she gets paired with the beautiful but unpolished Samantha, Vicki's entire reputation might be at stake.

Carrie Coon Joins 'The Sinner' Season 2
Coon is set to play Vera, described as a formidable, mysterious woman who struggles between upholding the ideals of the community she leads and fulfilling her own desires. The casting marks Coon's return to television after critically adored turns in HBO's "The Leftovers" and season three of FX's "Fargo."

Joining her in the season two cast for "The Sinner" are Natalie Paul and Hannah Gross. Paul will play Heather, a detective in training. Gross will play Marin, Heather's best friend from high school.

Originally a six-part miniseries that premiered on the NBCUniversal-owned cable channel, "The Sinner" will continue as an anthology that follows Bill Pullman's Detective Harry Ambrose as he explores a new crime. Ambrose will travel to his hometown in upstate New York where he will investigate the murder of two people by their 11-year-old son.

I'm fine with Kimmy Schmidt ending. It peaked with season one, especially since those episodes were made for NBC and lack the Netflix bloat of the rest of the series.

Yep, I completely agree with this. There was something special about the first season that I had to keep watching the next episode one after the other. I didn't get that feeling in seasons 2 and 3. But I am glad that it's going out on its own terms.

edit: don't look at the title now, I meant to write "dammit" not "great". Sigh.
You can look at the title now
