I used to own a 2015 FR-S in Halo White.

For a while I had the Phantom Electric Supercharger and it was the business.

But then I needed more car trunk space so I gave it up :(

But it was a fun couple of years, for sure. Enjoy!

How much did your house cost and how much do you make?

On topic: I've been debating one for a while as a second car to be my daily. But there's no where near me to take advantage of how they handle and they are just so damn underpowered.

I just bought a '17 86 in Raven. Have had it for a month and its been ok. Its a good car but I am seriously considering selling it for a S2k, which I previously owned.

How do you like it OP?

In the market for a new vehicle and I've always been interested.

Oh, Im definitely aware of the resale value of the S2k. Its been on fire for the last 4-5 years. Ironically, my 86 is pretty well built in terms of interior noise. No rattles at all. My main issue is the engine and clutch.

This is a pretty good 2 part video review of both cars build quality and how they live on the track:

part 2

I would take a new ND Hardtop MX5/Miata over either of them however.

For a second car yeah I'd probably just get a used low mileage srt crossfire for like 10k. Those things are nuts. I had a non srt crossfire for a few years and it was extremely reliable and a lot of fun. Nor problems over like 40k miles and it had a total of about 100k when I traded it in for something more practical. They are kind of ugly but I wouldn't care if I was rocking 400 horses for 10k with an easy at home ECU flash. I know a couple s2k dudes and they were actually a little jelly driving the crossfire. I put a MB intake on it and an ECU flash and it was pulling 250hp which is plenty for that light of a car.

Basically a dick on wheels though lol. Essentially an SLK though with a poor man's body haha.

2015 BRZ here. Best car I've ever owned. Makes every drive fun, gets over 30mpg average, looks great doing it. I'd love for it to be jusssst a bit faster, but every time I have to take a back road somewhere, those thoughts disappear.

Those cars are beautiful but underpowered by at least 50hp, and more torque would be good too. When I join the Subaru family (probably in 2 years), it will be with the STI.

The twins are in that spot the miata was when it came out (slow hairdressers car), give it a decade and suddenly everyone on the Oasis will be posting about how fun and light and go-karty they are

Been my daily driver for 5 years (in Michigan winters even) and I still love it. I've thought about upgrading but only for a bit before I decide to keep it for another year. Another reason holding me back from upgrading is that any replacement (still looking at coupes) will give me a lot less storage space!

Saw one burning on the side of the highway a couple of weeks ago. Was not a pretty sight. :(

I have 200bhp in my 208gti. More than enough, although the car weighs just over a ton.

They aren't making a turbo twin
why would Subaru shoot the wrx in the face like that with a lighter rwd coupe with the same performance
like how the cayman S isnt allowed to be faster than a 911
give it a longer final drive if you have to, cut the engine down a couple hundred CC's but we have tiers we have to protect

Just got one in Feb. 2017 basic ass BRZ. It's my first RWD and it's my daily driver. Had to choose between this, the WRX (great power, more practical, but hated the transmission, terrible fuel efficiency and quite frankly a bit ugly exterior, and more expensive), Civic SI (Really fun, great on fuel, practical, styling is meh and FWD), Miata (most beautiful of all options but way over my budget, and much less practical than the BRZ)

I love the low center to gravity position and the ergonomics inside with the wheel positioning and the seating, loving the RWD, the handling is amazing, tail happy, low end power and ref happy. Just overall really fun to drive for daily commute.

Downsides, if power is your thing then this car isn't for you. It's enough for me for daily driving, highway driving, but if your coming from a V8 Mustang then this would be underwhelming in terms of power, maybe the handling will make you forget about the lack of power. Also the infotainment is trash, but I believe the 2018 versions have been upgraded with Android Auto/Apple Car Play etc.

...which ones? Thoughts on install / use as a daily driver? That'd be a fun birthday gift for my wife, as it's *technically* her car. :)
I am using Open Flash Headers. They were all the rage a few years back but it seems that they don't sell them anymore. You can also buy a tuner from them where you just plug it into your car, select a tune, and upload it. I didn't do the install myself, I have no skills in that area. I still have the stock pipes on it because I didn't want it to be extremely loud but it sounds great. It definitely added more pep to the car. I was in the same boat as most people where they felt like it needed a little more power but I haven't had that feeling since.

Did you go with unequal (subbie burble) length headers? I am thinking of the same upgrade after putting stickier tires on and losing some of the tail happiness.

...drat. I'll have to keep looking. I'm exactly the same - I'll keep the stock exhaust, as I have zero interest in making it loud. A tad more zip would be nice, that's all.

I was looking at them on Autotrader here in Canada recently. Depending how things work out, I may buy a used one in about half a year or so.

Damn I would too if I can get a new M3 for the same price as the 86.

You could glue 2 BRZs together for the cost of a M3.

hmmm flat 8 AWD!

There are plenty of options. I think I am going to get invidia ones since that is what my catback is.

I test drove the BRZ when I bought my WRX. It's a neat little car but it's down on power and doesn't sound nice. For me it was too hard to justify over the WRX, which had 4 doors and AWD and does weather and life and everything else. Plus the WRX doesn't struggle to pass on the highway or coming off of on ramps ;)

Now that you can buy them used at good prices the 86's are a lot more of a draw IMO.

For me the more shocking thing was that I test drove the Mazda RX-8 and honestly it was a better car hands-down than the GT86! The handling was just as good, the steering felt better even, and the interior was nicer, the sound was neat, the extra ~200lbs over the BRZ wasn't noticeable, but the extra power was. I know the Mazda is crazy unreliable but I still think about owning one sometimes.

Do all of you own the automatic or manual? I work for a Toyota dealer and the majority of the ones that come in are automatic.

I was going to grab one several years ago but ended up with a Genesis Coupe. I actually didn't care for the Genesis all that much. Lots of problems.

I believe it was. I don't have access to my email at the moment to confirm it.

It's only pretty loud when you first start it and the choke is going. It dies down in 15 seconds or when you put it in gear. I listen to a lot of podcasts in the car and am never affected by the sound of the new headers.

Love the look of them. Really clean cars and I can definitely see myself in one some day. There's just a bit too much snow around here for it to be my regular driver.

I just bought an ST. A ton of fun to drive.
