I've put a fair chunk of time in the Switch version of South Park: The Fractured But Whole (around 20 hours), and while I've enjoyed my time with it quite a bit it has been kinda spoiled by what a technical mess it is.

The frame rate is really unstable in some parts of the map, while rock solid in others. Some missions won't load, certain button prompts don't seem to activate and, worst of all, there's a bug towards the end of the game where your character is replaced by another random one mid-cutscene which deletes your save and replaces it with some weird game state where you can not access the game map and the game has started over.

I've never experienced losing a 20 hour save before, and especially not in this way, and it fucking sucks. From what I can tell I was close to the end, too, so there's just no way I can muster the energy to play through the entire game again. It's such a shame, cause I was really loving playing it on the Switch. It felt like a perfect fit.

Don't buy it, at least not until they've fixed everything.

Those actually sound like pretty severe issues and makes me wonder if quality control was even a factor. If these issues are shared by multiple people and isn't an isolated set of circumstances (not sure what those could be), it also goes to show that some of the review sites most likely phoned in the switch specific review.

Sad to hear.

Does other versions of the game share the same bugs? I've read around here about one regarding a side quest which was present on other platforms, so I don't if the game was already intially published filled with issues, or a bad Switch port job.

yikes, so it can delete saves?

It's weird, because when it happened the game didn't crash or anything. Mid-cutscene, my character was replaced by a random one and then the game started over, but not all the way back to the beginning. The timer on my save says I've been playing for 10 minutes. So fucking strange.

Yeah I read similar complaints in another thread that stopped me from pulling the trigger so to speak. I think I'll still buy it but only once this sorta stuff gets fixed, shame that a (supposedly) good game is crippled by these issues.

I heard about this save deleting bug and it made me slow down on playing the game. I plan on stopping before that mission and waiting for Ubisoft to fix it. Late ports (especially $60 ones) should never have game breaking bugs. It's my understanding that this one existed in the previous versions too and had to be patched out.

Unbelievably infuriating. Fucking publishers rushing to launch games after the unexpected success, and then be surprised when it doesn't sell well and holding back on bringing other games over.

Lets be honest a 1 year later port if not longer. At full price isn't going to sell well. It was send to die.

That weird save thing happened to me. The game just replaced my character and I had no idea what was going on.
I just saved in another slot and reloaded it. I got my character and progress back but my in game timer had reset. I would've dropped it if I had to start over again.

Sorry to hear OP

This is absolutely ridiculous, though. Moreso since this is a late, fully priced port.

Better buy it anway or Ubisoft will use it as an example of "mature" games not selling well on Switch.

Tried to do this as well, didn't work. Oh well.

Thank you for this PSA, Ubisoft are usually pretty decent when it comes to Switch titles, that's unfortunate.

October 17, 2017 to April 24, 2018 is in no way remotely close to 1 year later.

Regardless of that fact, I'm pretty sure the publishers do this with sales expecting in mind with the plan to drop the price accordingly after the first few months. It seems that Bayonetta, Doom, and Skyrim all seem to be doing well enough with no prove drop, so I can't blame then, even if I'm not willing to pay that price for it. It has been proven that people will buy it at full retail so.

Shocker that a ported game from next gen systems to a substantially weaker platform has performance related issues

What a bummer. If God of War hadn't dropped right before I would have already picked this game up. Now I'll wait for a patch and a price drop

60 dollars? Oof. I rented the PS4 version from redbox when it came out, spent about 12 bucks to play through it. Anything over 20 I would have felt ripped off. It's an OK game, but almost entirely forgetable.

Based on what I've seen they definitely could have done a better job. People expect a downgrade but they don't expect the types of significant issues that are being discussed here. Especially a game breaking bug that should have been worked out by this point. It screams of a rushed port job.

Plus this game is almost exactly graphically as The Stick of Truth, and that was a PS3 and Xbox 360 game. The Switch should run this with no problem...

That is disappointing. I will thinking of picking up this version at some point. Hopefully the issues are things that can be patched.

The PC version was a buggy mess too, I guess it's just teh way it was developed. They did end up fixing most big game breaking bugs at one point though.

Another one? Ugh this is just awful, thanks for reporting. Hopefully they can fix as much as they can quickly.

Full price without the first game. Half price or less on other platforms that run and look better. The Switch port situation is a travesty.

Expect a patch, other versions had their issues at launch

As for full price (Ubisofts decision), it's a new game on a new portable enabled system, if you don't need it then don't buy it (I'm not buying it personally)

Avoided the bug by waiting for a price drop.
£50 on Amazon UK, versus £20 for the XB1 version.
And it doesn't come with Stick of Truth or even any of the DLC. Fuck that noise.

Wow that's the weirdest bug I've ever heard of.
